Just got back from Toledo and the OOTP convention and I just want to say that I had a great time! Toledo was a fine site to hold the convention and for those of you wondering, why Toledo, give it a shot one day! Nice town!
I was the one that came the farthest to attend (from Denver) and it was worth it. What really stuck out to me as I met some very fine people was the passion that the attendees had for the game. While I think we all have our issues with some aspect of the game (I really want to have the salary system modified to support different eras), what we have in OOTP is an incredibly featured-filled game for a miniscule price. I'm not one of those that will spend hundreds of posts complaining about the game like some of you so don't go looking for me to support the complainers. I spent money on a plane ticket, hotel room for two nights, food and souvenirs to be at the convention because it is a qualify product that I stand behind, regardless of it's minor flaws (I work in software development for a living and still have never experienced a piece of software that didn't have flaws). I went to provide some constructive criticism as well as provide input from an experience commissioner of OOTP leagues. All of the attendees participated in providing positive input. It was an honor and a pleasure to meet people who I have been associated with in this fine hobby over the last 6 years (and some I had not be associated with). It's great to put a face to the name and to see that there are some class people who are as passionate about this game as I am. Having met the likes of Steve Kuffrey and Joe Strano (BOSI), OOTP is in great hands now and for the future. And I look forward to continuing to be a part of this hobby using OOTP. I want to thank Steve and Corey for putting this event together and I know no one went home disappointed. I hope next year, more people will come to Toledo and be a part of what could be a long running event. You were courageous to take on such a task when there were so many unknowns and you pulled it off successfully. I look forward to going back to Toledo next year! Joe and Jack, you've outdone yourself with BOSI v2!! And I cannot wait to start using it! Folks, BOSI is going to have a major impact in make the OOTP experience that much greater. The product he has now is a fine product, but v2 is leaps and bounds better! Both commissioners and players will appreciate the amazing effort you guys have put into creating a great addon to the game! Thanks for the demo and I'll try to contain my excitement until the product is finally released! The speakers at the convention, Pat Ahearne and Frank Gihlooley (sp?) Jr, were a joy to listen and talk to. Pat was able to get a small taste of the big leagues in his career and I hope he gets another chance. Frank made the convention for me! I am an historical baseball nut and he fed that fanaticism by talking about such greats as Mickey Mantle and Joe Dimaggio. And his experience of actually seeing a Babe Ruth HR when he was just a little boy is something I would kill for. Ah for the days of baseball when it was still a game and players played the game because they loved it and cared about the fans! Anyway, enough rambling from me. I had a great time and I hope many more of you will take a few days our of your lives next year to be a part of the 2nd annual event. Jealously reading the recap posts - wasn't able to get away for this past weekend or I'd of been there, it sounded awesome!
Rooting for 1st week of August for next convention, as thats my regular vacation week. I can probably talk the wife into letting me go for the weekend... |

Most of the others have said what I could have said on attending the convention. I'll only add that I had an outstanding time too. Everyone needs to attend this next year.
I have some pictures that I plan to send to Corey, so I'm sure they'll be up on the web for viewing somewhere soon. |
