Owners complaining of problems downloading file

Do any other commissioners have owners who are complaining they can't reliably download the in-game file update? I've had several reporting this for quite a while now, and I'm to the point where we almost lost an owner over it.

As a stopgap fix, I direct them to the tar.gz file, but obviously it isn't an ideal solution. I've heard anecdotal evidence that this is an underlying OOTP problem, but I thought I'd see what others have experienced. I've never been able to replicate it myself, but I do know that I upload files only through FTP and never the game because it constantly drops upload connections for me.

Is it the game or my server?

Based on what you are saying, I assume this is an OOTP 9 league?

I find that ootp9's internal ftp mechanism is very intolerant of connection issues and often fails if things are not completely ideal. For users, what you have done by providing an HTML link for them to download the file outside of the game is probably the best thing you can do.

Other suggestions that I have found to help are to just simply make the league file smaller. Don't include player photos other than every so often, etc. I have a few owners myself that have issues any time a large file is put up, so I actually have to make them a special file with just the .dat files and none of the messages or game logs or such in it for them to download in those cases.

For whatever it is worth, most of my testing has indicated that this part of the game feels much improved in ootp10.
