League file shrunk from 40MB to 10MB

I've been running my online league for about a year, and for the past few months, our league file has been about 40MB. Then after my sim last night, the new league file is only 10MB, yet it seems to be working fine, and doesn't seem to be missing anything.

None of my settings have changed.

Can anyone explain this?

I find the largest amount of file size in my league files come from the box scores, game logs, game replays and player photos being included. Did you alter any settings to not save any of those any longer, or did you not update player photos (and have it set to only send updated ones in the file)?

Thanks for the feedback, Alan.

I don't remember changing any settings, but I need to examine the league file more closely. Are html reports generally included in a league file? I don't recall seeing where that would be toggled on or off, except where it asks "How many days' worth of reports" that one wishes to include.

Have you recently hit your offseason? Our league file shrinks considerably during the offseason due to the lack of box scores, game logs and replays.

I was going to ask this same thing. Or maybe there's another time of year.

If you have a copy of that old big archive you might want to try to see what's different.

I don't think I have a copy of the old archive, although one might exist in my backup league folder?

This was our first sim since the All-star break, but it was actually one day longer than our typical sim, so I'd expect the file to be about 10% larger than usual.

I've compared the newer file with an older one, and found the difference: the newer league file didn't include all the files from the images folder, and the older one did. The older one therefore had 39MB of images which only compressed minimally in the archive, and that accounted for the discrepancy.

My thanks to everyone who responded to this thread, and for the advice offered. Eventually I would have followed the same course, but with the community's help, I got on the correct path more quickly.

After our last sim before this latest one, I'd used the in-game utility to upload our league file. That was the first time I'd done so. Perhaps the game "remembered" that I'd recently put copies of all the league images in an archive, and so it only added new ones to the newest league file.

I didn't realize that the game's mechanism for creating league-file archives was so "smart."

Yes, you can have it only include "updated" images in the file when you have OOTP create the archive.
