Vris, thank you for the kind comments. Your review is right on the money. It is nothing fancy, just cut-and-dried coverage of the great baseball players. I do love it, too. It is nice that it shows. Maybe I can enjoy it more now. I finally got my website up and running...thanks to F. Montoya, who helped me with it. He really is a fine and patient person, who knows how to set up a website. If anyone ever wants a website for your league, you need to contact him. I highly recommend him. Last edited by Eugene Church : 01-31-2006 at 08:31 AM. |

All-time All-Star is definitely worth reading, it was prominently on my ballot. I look forward to seeing where the others I voted for end up. Vris, keep up the good work and shoot me a PM sometime, we haven't chatted in far too long.

I'm a slacker, I know. I'm really trying to finish this because I was excited when the results came out, and I've got controversial PMs about it!
I'm going to try really hard to do some "nerd stuff" tonight (as the female likes to say) to get the next installment up. I'm glad everyone is waiting, because the next one is a doozy! |

TWB: The Pittsburgh Pirates (Author: ifspuds; 6 ballots; highest vote: 1st) I made an exception to get this dynasty eligible for this year, since it started at the tail end of November 2004. Everyone knows TWB, the online league that every online league aspires to be....or something. There were tons of threads dedicated to it and its teams (you can find the main thread around here somewhere, and always be on the watch for the HOF threads where anyone can vote), but this is the one that stood out. You can see Jeff's multiple personalities raising their ugly heads. He does a phenomenal job in staying in character. Because the Pirates are one of the teams I enjoy following in the league (not just because of this thread), I find this to be a great read. Jeff puts a lot of time into TWB, and it shows. He's a great GM to sit and watch work, and this thread sort of gets us into his brain. We still have no idea what he's got up his sleeve, but it sure is fun to pretend! Even if it wasn't based in TWB, I would read this thread. It's very well written and really gets into the personalities of the team. Excellent dynasty - and why I read every dynasty spuds starts.

I've written some stuff in here I'm extremely proud of, and I'm heartened by the fact that people are enjoying it. This dynasty proves the adage that you have to write for yourself: I generally don't get a lot of reader comments, but that's never bothered me, and it's never stopped me from continuing to write, because it entertains me even if no one else ever read a word. Unfortunately, I've been too busy to update it in the last week or so, despite some pretty momentous stuff happening in the Pirates family, but I'm dedicated to closing out the sad story of Bud Breckenridge if nothing else. One of my all-time favorite Pirates deserves that much from me, at the very least. ![]() And a p.s. to creed: I actually do write in my free time. When I have it. ![]()

Mr. Watson, I know you've already made your "acceptance speech", so to speak, but I have enjoyed reading TWB Pirates so much I feel obligated to comment.

Set in Stone... MLB Players Stay with Original Franchises (Author: Matt From TN; 9 ballots; highest vote: 1st) From the man who gave us Time Warp Baseball (like that doesn't get enough exposure... ), and that super cool dynasty where he did everything in real time (This one), Matt From TN opens up his brain for this doozy. He imports everyone from Lahman, or so I think, and everyone stays with the same team that they originally played for. Forever. There is no trading or free agency, and no injuries so we really get to see a player's full career. This one is still going strong, despite TWB's best efforts to kill it off by forcing Matt to sim everyday of the year. Matt does a great job laying out the happenings. It's kind of a stat dump, but if he really gets going into a more recognizable part of baseball history (not that the deadball era sucks or anything, but most people can't associate with it..myself included), then it should really take off. I know a lot of people are interested to see how certain teams do, if they had certain players forever, or if free agency didn't exist like it does today.Another great thread idea from a guy who has a million of them! Prologue (Author: seth70liz76; 7 ballots; highest vote: 1st (4 times)) I'm going to start by saying a couple things: 1) This one should've been higher 2) Seth wanted me to keep this off the list Now...I thought about it and figured that would be doing a disservice to the story. This was a great idea that was executed wonderfully. Seth is the biggest micromanager I have ever witnessed (see his A 3rd and 4th League is Born thread). Everything has a step, and each step a small step before it. Prologue was written directly from the context of the times, and it shows the pain and joy and everything in between with the startup of a new venture. Not just a baseball league, but any sort of business. Will the product be liked by the consumers (fans)? Will the product be any good to begin with? Can it be marketed? What about competition? Deceit at the top? This has it all and it is documented in the best way possible. There were a few that tried to emulate it, but nothing could come close. This gets my seal of approval as the Best Dynasty of 2005, but I'm horrendously biased. We miss you Seth. Last edited by Vris : 02-03-2006 at 10:41 PM. |

20th Century Baseball Chronicle (Author: metsgeek; 9 ballots; highest vote: 1st (3 times)) This is the only dynasty in which it was the only vote on a ballot. I don't know how many times Pete tried to keep this going, but I think the crash ended up killing it for good. Up until then (and woody came along), it was probably the most popular sign-up dynasty the boards have ever seen. The followers were like cannibals, jumping over each other trying to get a piece of the action. How it worked was Pete allowed one member to create a fictional character for every season and throw them into the fire with the big boys. I'm not quite sure how far he got in the end (last I remember he was into to the 40s with the problem of WWII, and the crash knocked out almost 15 years). This was a great thread for people like Pete who have OCD and need some sort of baseball. He did a great job with this thread and keeping every involved. It's too bad the crash did what it did because Pete would've finished it. I guarentee that. Last edited by Vris : 02-03-2006 at 10:41 PM. |

Holy numbering system, batman!
I know a few of you keep track where you end up here, so you're gonna have to update your records. Every dynasty already chronicled gets moved up a spot: 1a ???? 1b ???? 2 20th CBC 3 Prologue 4 Set in Stone 5 TWB Pirates 6 You Pick the Teams 7 Octopus 8 - All-time All Star 9a - Outpost 9b - All-Forum 10 - Keystone I'm going back to change the numbers now, and next is a write up of the The Keystone League, by BigSix. I'm sorry if that spoils the surprise or if it screwed any one up. Last edited by Vris : 02-03-2006 at 10:41 PM. |

The Keystone League (Author: Big Six; 6 ballots; highest vote: 4) You all might know BigSix as the guy who gave us Pat O'Farrell...probably the best known single-player dynasty on the OOTP Boards (until 2005) (and not the whole boards..that distinction belongs to David Driscoll). This is a new step for Big Six, taking on a whole league rather than just one player. The premise is a league set in Pennsylvania. It's completely fictional and is just run very well. I wish I could say something that makes it stand out, but it doesn't. Big Six has a very unique writing style, and it shows, but it doesn't jump off the page. This is a fun read, anyway. Lot's of guys just talkin' about baseball. Nothing mysterious. No mind games or anything to make you think. Just baseball. How it should be. |
