This is what bothers me the most. I didn't mind the thread. I didn't think it belonged here, but that's not for me to decide. But it's sickening that you (Seth) get pm's like that. Quote:
The first paragraph is the reason why I decided to include this one. Okay, time to move on... finally. Maybe I should have planned ahead and had something ready to go. Onward!!!!

#41 – “A whole lotta history: A 200+ year universe”
Started by: randomlefty10 As the title suggests, this one has a whole lotta history. The crash did this one in, or it would be higher on the list. Basically, he starts in 1800, sims up to 1900 and then takes over a team for which he would take them to 2000. It would be a big project, and actually something that I might try someday. I really enjoyed how he wrote up the summaries. It wasn’t like he went year by year (which would have taken forever), but he picked out some good stories and wrote about them. As you may recall, I love those kinds of dynasties. It’s just too bad that this one got lost in the crash, as I have no idea how long it went. Worth a Look Score: ![]() ![]()

I have some comments in response to your post, seth70liz76:
1. The extent of a personal attack in my post was to suggest that the poster did not have a vocabulary extensive enough to know the meaning of the word "reedeming", and to assume that the poster was in high school. While I believe this is an extremely mild flame, particularly in the context of a message board, in hindsight I admit that I should not have posted that final sentence. I wouldn't go as far as you did, however, in calling that "bullying". There were a number of other posts that directly attacked his grammar well before my posts, including some from those who rarely if ever post in Off-Topic (i.e. Dynasty "regulars"). The remainder of my post attacked the thread itself, which is #10 in your chart (admittedly not much higher, but not a personal attack, and I see a significant difference between attacking a comment and attacking a person). 2. This was not a case of me jumping on the poster or the thread right after it was posted. The thread was updated for close to three weeks before I made my post. There was one public response that could be construed as constructive (substituting "s" for "z"). There were no public responses relating to your points #4 through #7. None. For nearly three weeks. It wasn't just me who neglected to coach this poster in public. 3. You have no basis to make the claim that I jumped directly to #11 on your list, as you have no way to know if I took steps #1, #2, #3, #8 or #9 prior to my post. In case you're curious, I did in fact take three of those steps (although #9 was in conjunction with my post). I'm not sure whether it was my reporting of the thread that resulted in his ban, or someone else who reported it, or a moderator realizing this was an alias meant to mock the Dynasty forum. My reporting this thread was interestingly what you call the most effective way to deal with it. When the posts continued for a time after I reported it, I made my "bullying" post and stopped reading the thread. 4. If the thread would have been simply in "leet-speak" and, as you call it, a "chaotic mess", I would at most have made a joke about that, but probably wouldn't have done even that. When I have teased posters about grammar or vocabulary or typos here, it's been good-natured. A search through my old posts, if anyone is so inclined, should back that up. It was the profanity ("suck my ballz") and all of the derogatory homosexual references that made me decide to post. 5. It would have taken just one other poster to "call me out" in the original thread, and tell me that they thought I was going overboard, and we could have had this discussion then when it was much more topical. I could have clarified my point then, instead of you becoming frustrated about this nearly a year later. I'm not sure if you were upset about this back then or not - I hope that this is the first time you've seen it and that's why you're commenting now. 6. I have nothing personal against you, and you have a number of valid points regarding dealing with offensive threads/posts as well as the treatment of new posters to the forum. However, I am frustrated with your characterization of me as someone who just stumbled in from Off-Topic with the intent to cause a stir. As I mentioned before, I consider myself a regular at this forum. I am tremendously enjoying Yoda's thread, so I'm ready to get back to it as well. I just wanted to clarify my stance.

Whoever is making derogatory statements towards your thread doesn't understand "historical context". You are, in fact, integrating your league (or at least plan on it...or at least make references to it). The flat out blatant remarks made in "Anti-Dye"'s thread are unwarranted and uncalled for.
I agree that it shouldn't have to come down to personal attacks, but that thread was over the line. |

Yoda,
Just wondering, did my Major League Baseball thread meet the criteria for this countdown? I started it in October, but I think the thread count wasn't working when I started it. Really enjoying this thread. ![]() |

#40 – “Baseball Redux”
Started by: Kavalkade New Blood! I have a feeling that this one was lost in the crash as well. It’s too bad, because Kav hasn’t posted since the crash. We lost too many people who were regulars in the dynasty forum because of that, not to mention the new guys who were stepping it up. So RIP to this dynasty because of the GC05. He does a great job with this one. It doesn’t feel like a stat dump as he throws in a lot of newspaper articles and conversations. The feel and pace are nice and smooth. Man, I wish I had caught this one earlier. I feel like he didn’t get the love he deserved. He went a month (11 posts) without a reply at the “end.” It’s too bad that it takes a while for some dynasties to get readership and responses. That’s why you just have to plug along. The one thing that really sticks out to me in this dynasty is the formatting. It’s really laid out well. The use of bolding and italics are all well done. I really wonder how long this went after the last backup of the board. Worth a Look Score: ![]() ![]() ![]()

Yeah. I think a lot of people who don't frequent the dynasty forum didn't realize just what a tremendous blow it was to those of us who do.
Between the loss of posts (the bigger issue) and the loss of views-to-posts ratios, I think a lot of people who might otherwise have worked on or continued some very promising dynasties just gave up. Think about how you almost gave up DoaCMP before you found the posts cached. For every person like yourself who started again, I'd guess there were 3 or 4 who didn't. And that's very sad. I got lucky -- I write my Outpost League posts offline, so I could repost them. If I hadn't, I'm not sure I would have continued. Quote:

Plus, when you're starting out, it can get intimidating to see a brilliant piece of writing like GForce's "Austin" thread. You know that no matter how hard you try you can't measure up to something that stellar and encouragement that people like what you do helps you keep going. |

I'm not sure I totally agree with your second point, though that's probably just a personal thing: I read great writing and I get inspired to try and measure up, rather than get intimidated away from writing. That's one reason I try and at least glance at as many dynasties as I can. I get inspiration from a lot of different quarters -- your thread, Austin James, the Pale Hose, Short Hop, and countless others that I should be able to recall off the top of my head but suddenly can't (EDIT: Keystone League is another big one -- I love how Big Six tracks teams that posters are fans of). However, I'm sure that there are plenty of people who feel like you, DAED. Which is why encouragement is so key to helping people along. You shouldn't have to be an outstanding writer to tell a great story here.
