#31 – “Flying Blind”
Started by: darkhorse No ratings; the ultimate task for any manager in the OOTP game. I myself haven’t ever gone this route (though it is tempting). You really have to rely on what the statistics give you. I think the reason why I never have turned off ratings is because of the minor league statistics. With OOTP 2006, I look for that to change, and possibly give myself more of a challenge. Anyway, darkhorse starts us up with his Yorktown Riflemen. It’s pretty interesting to go through the draft with him (it takes about 40 posts or so). I must say that we have a very similar drafting strategy when drafting an entire team… go for the youth. Although, I think this is what a lot of people do when they are building a team, or maybe I am completely wrong. So now the team is drafted and after introducing us to his team, opening day is upon us. However, within a couple of games, dh calls it quits saying, “I got the feeling this one was boring peeps to tears. I'll leave this forum to the true talents. Lotsa good reading.” And that, as they say, was that. This one sort of fell beneath my radar as I was doing the 2004 countdown at the time, but I noticed it from time to time and was impressed with the writing. I would have liked to see this one continue as well. Worth a Look Score: ![]() ![]() ![]()

I just haven't had the urge to read or write. I'm still here though, don't want to get too burned out on this, otherwise you guys will just be reading crap.

#30 – “The History of Baseball”
Started by: Carlton When something is named “The History of Baseball” there is a lot of expectations that come with that. And then, when you click on the thread and see that it only goes 6 pages, you feel a little let down. How can someone fit the whole history of baseball into 6 pages (no more than 120 posts)? Well, someone could, I guess. Aside from doing just a part of baseball history, it’s not half bad. I tried this myself a while back, it’s not an easy task what with expansions, new players, and I tried to change the logo of the team as the game went on. Eventually, something technical happened (like I forgot to Catobase or something) and/or the something else happened, I don’t really remember. I got to the 40s though. This one is an interesting read if you enjoy alternate histories. Along with the stats that he provides, there is definitely some good reading involved. Sometimes he spotlights certain players and other times, the news is just as good. I suggest trying this one out. Worth a Look Score: ![]() ![]() ![]() (This would get one more if it were longer and possibly two more if it made it into the back half of the 20th century).

#29 – “Play in the Last Pick League”
Started by: Dagrims This thread is genius. Take what some of us like to do (take a crappy team and build it up) twist the idea around and bwam-o! You’ve got yourself the “Last Pick League.” Board members signed up to be the last pick of every team and Dags would then follow their progress (as small as it might be). One of my favorite last picks (in any league, not this one) would be Viktor Tay over there in the NPBL. Chappy followed his progress in “Rebuilding a Champion” volume 1, but has totally forgotten about him in recent years (Its 2017 now in the league and Mr. Tay hasn’t played since 2012), although that could be because he is still trying to become a champion after rebuilding. He’s giving it one more shot this year. Anyway, this one putters out very quickly, but not after many of us had had our fun. Worth a Look Score: ![]() ![]() ![]()

Things are heating up now... getting down close to the Top 25.
![]() By the way, on the Viktor Tay note, I was surprised to see his stats. I remebered him as being much more dominant in the minors homerun-wise after that experiment. |

Yeah, he never was really any good, but for story purposes, it was great for "Rebuilding a Champion", much like Pat Gaylon.
Finally, we are getting down there. Almost.... there....

#28 – “The Base Ball Life of Patrick O'Farrell: Hall of Fame Thread”
Started by: Big Six For those of you who haven’t checked out The Base Ball Life of Patrick O'Farrell, you should do so now. This thread is for the Hall of Fame of that Universe. It’s a good supplement to the real thread, but doesn’t really stand on its own. Thus I send you to check out the Pat O’Farrell thread as it’s one of the best on the boards. Worth a Look Score (for the HoF thread): ![]() ![]() (for Patrick O’Farrell): ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

#27 – “The Keystone League”
Started by: Big Six Yes, Big Six does have two consecutive dynasties on the countdown. That’s just how it worked out, although, if the crash hadn’t happened, this one probably would be a little higher. This one recovers very nicely from the crash (unlike many others), so I have to give props for that. Six usually does historical fiction type stuff, but this time, he went fully fictional, to very good results. As for a summary of what to expect from this one, I think Big Six does a good job summing it up. Quote:

Big Six is the best dynasty writer here. Craig Knox is close, but their two styles are completely different, so I would say the two of them are tied for best writers on OOTP.
