#74 – “Life in the WCBL”
Started by: Muppetus Galacticus I can’t believe that I missed this one! Even as I was compiling this list, I kept thinking, “Is this an online league signup?” Yes, this is an online league writeup, but no, there’s no signup. MG took over a team in the WCBL and documented his stay as manager of the New Mexico Roadrunners. His first season as manager had just completed, he was poised for a decent offseason after a last place finish. But then… The crash happened. I can’t be sure that this is what happened to this one, but as his last post was a day or two before the board was last backed up, I am assuming that this was the case and either he had stopped writing sometime inbetween then and when the board came back, or he just couldn’t handle the loss of posts. Either way, we lost a good one in “Life in the WCBL.” So what makes this one so good? The writing is good and it flows really well. He takes you into his head and does a great job explaining his moves. For some reason, he just didn’t get the readership. Maybe it’s because it was too wordy or because following a team (and a league) is hard because there are so many stories… I don’t really know (although I kind of think the title and confusion with an online league signup could have hurt it). But man, did we get some quality to start this countdown off with. Just for the sake of saying it, I am pissed that I missed this when it was going on. Worth a Look Score: ![]() ![]() ![]()

#73 – “C L O N E B A L L
Started by: metsgeek This one had so much promise, but didn’t make it past the first page (which is why I am not going to spend a whole lot of time writing about it). Great idea by metsgeek regardless of the fact that there really isn’t any meat to this dynasty. Quick summary: Baseball hasn’t been played in 40 or 50 centuries (this is set in the 70th century) and the beings of that age are doing some history work. They have cloned everyone who has played in the 1901-1905 seasons and are going to recreate what baseball was like. It’s a funky idea (looking at deadball era baseball from 50 centuries in the future) as they are going to make some mistakes recreating this history. That would have been fun to see. But ultimately, we don’t see it as this one ends before it really begins (aside from getting one season in the books). Worth a Look Score: (but you should really check it out for the creativity that could have been used in this one)

#72 – “The 1997 Red Sox....Now this is a challenge!”
Started by: fenwaymike This is your typical rebuilding dynasty (granted, it IS the Red Sox and they have a lot of cash, so these are the Tampa Bay Devil Rays or anything). There were a lot of overpaid guys on the roster, and fenwaymike wanted to make them a better team, and in the process “give Nomar another shot at a career he should of had before things went so wrong.” This dynasty is a quicky and easy read, but unfortunately, he didn’t back up his files and they might have gotten corrupted as he hasn’t posted in this thread since November (as of this writing). He made it a little over halfway through April (which is nice) and made some big moves, but the biggest move was the one he didn’t make (backing up his file). One thing that really bothered me though was the copy and paste job he did with the box scores. It would have worked much better had he just put all that in a code tag. It’s a fun quick and easy read, but unless he saved his file and gets this thing going again, it’s really not worth checking out. I, for one, hope he is able to save it. But as more and more days go by, I think it’s just another dynasty that went under. Worth a Look Score: ![]()

#71 – “ The Masochistic Tom Brady Hater's Dynasty”
Started by: Jestor Sigh… With all the decent dynasties that got left out of the countdown, this one makes it in. I have nothing against Jestor or this dynasty, but it just didn’t go on long enough for it to warrant a spot. There were like 3 real posts in this one (ok, looked it up, there are 4). Bit of background here (albeit, not a whole lot)… Jestor said something to someone or in regards to something that he probably shouldn’t have said and the moderators of the forum banned him for it (I don’t feel like dredging up the history of this nor do I want the history in this thread… because I don’t really care. If you are so inclined to find out, you can PM Jestor, create a thread in OT, or just use the search tool as this happened well before the Great Crash of ‘05). This resulted in a temporary leave of absence for Jestor which lasted something like a week (his first ban of the year if I recall correctly (the second would last much longer than this one)). Anywho… I really enjoyed this thread for the brief time that it was going on. The idea behind this one is great, and I echo Jestor’s last post: Quote:
Good idea, decent execution, very poor endurance. If this thread was a pitcher, it’d be one of those specialty lefthanders who only pitch a few pitches against one lefthanded hitter a night. There just was not staying power. However, this wasn’t the only dynasty that Jestor did in 2005, so look for him to pop up somewhere down in the countdown. Worth a Look Score: ![]() out of 5 (only because of the unique idea)

I gotta say..... I think a few dynasties will be shortchanged by the fact that the post counts were disabled in the weeks following the big crash.
In my case, I don't see how C L O N E B A L L finished ahead of TFH. C'est la vie ![]()

Wow! That was a surprise entry.
I'm not sure if I have that league file anymore, to be honest. If I start it up again, I'll have to reset it and create a new league for it.I have to admit though, that the dynasty was more or less a shameless ripoff of Glory of the Gload in a lot of ways, and of course Glory of the Gload has its predecessor in Darryl Strawberry by BadluckinOOTP. The geanology of Dynasty threads certainly is interesting ![]()

#70 – “Rejuvinating the Great Red Machine”
Started by: jaykno14 Richard Pryor passed away last month, and I couldn’t help but think of something I heard on the radio as I was driving to work when I read over this dynasty. Just as his career was beginning to take off (you know, a few movies, getting a higer profile), he was given the advice to “be like Bill Cosby” because that’s what worked. People had accepted a black comic like Bill Cosby, and if you followed in his footsteps (and were good enough), it was a sure path to success. Pryor did this for a while, but ultimately was unhappy that he wasn’t able to express the kind of comedy that he wanted to do. He took a few years to gather himself, did a lot of reading, but when he came out of that, he brought his own brand of comedy. He equaled, if not exceeded the greatness that is Bill Cosby. He never would have been able to do so if not for breaking out of that mold. jaykno never broke out of the mold. His first sentence says is all: Quote:
Not that there is anything wrong with that. jaykno really does do a good job with this dynasty (while it lasts), but I think he got in a little over his head. He never made it out of the American League East in his season preview (and that is the first division he previewed). He did however play a game (albeit a Spring Training game), so all was not lost. The colors kind of got in my way, but overall, I liked the writing. This one had a decent future ahead of it, if only it could have continued. Worth a Look Score: ![]() ![]()
