The Ford Motor Company was founded in 1903, but Henry Ford already had plans for the "quadricycle" in 1900-1901. I don't know when he got sick in this dynasty, so the assembly line or motor vehicle may still be years away.

Either way, this is a great idea, and I will be signing up, once I can figure out the math. The changing of history has always interested me.

The majority of adult victims died between 1891-1894. Gradually it appeared that all surviving adults had gained some immunity, but infants are still at a risk. For some unknown reason, immunity is not passed on from their mothers.

If anyone has any ideas for different paths history should take with the deaths, feel free to send me suggestions.

Pete, are you going to have a website for this, so we can see ratings and development and everything else?

I doubt it. I'm a complete idiot when it comes to websites....unless someone can help me do it. I've thought many times of starting one for other dynasties, but I think I have a mental block or some weird phobia.

1901 FINAL STANDINGS

The winners of the 1st Continental League pennant were the surprise Cincinnati Scarlets who simply dominated off the mound with a league high 2.30 ERA. George Merritt and Christy Mathewson both notched more than 20 wins, with Ed Scott, the man some call "the best closer in the game" slamming the door in the face of all challengers.

The New York Knights are the polar opposites of their CL counterparts, winning on the basis of their dominant offense, led by John Anderson, Willie Keeler, and Danny Shay. They led all teams with a .298 batting average. In comparison, the top team in the CL had a .242 average. In fact, the disparity between the two leagues is quite remarkable. The Knights led the FL with an ERA of 2.75. 6 teams in the Continental League posted a better team ERA. Much of the Knights' success can be attributed to a combined 72-16 vs. Louisville, St. Louis, Washington and Buffalo. Against the rest of the league, they compiled a mediocre 35-31 record.

Wow, someone's impatient

Yes, I will. I may not get to it tonight though. Generally the order of reports will be In Memoriam, Rookie Watch, Draft, Standings, Ancestors, Playoffs Preview, Playoffs, World News.

ROY "THE NATURAL" HOBBS, CF, NEW YORK (F) KNIGHTS - Hobbs jumped right into the starting lineup and, despite being projected as a possible weak spot before he developed, he more than filled the shoes of a big league centerfielder. Quickly becoming a fan favorite, he was in a groove for the entire month of June, batting .529 with 3 homers and 29 RBI. He's ready to prove that he's up to the challenge in the postseason as well.

1901 WORLD SERIES PREVIEW

CONTINENTAL LEAGUE CHAMPION: CINCINNATI SCARLETS (94-60)

Team Batting Average: .242 (5th)
Team ERA: 2.30 (1st)

Top Batters:
George Bone - .340, 107 RBI
Mike Donlin - .294, 84 RBI, 37 SB
Fred Tenney - .286, 59 RBI, 43 SB

Top Pitchers:
George Merritt - 25-11, 1.86 ERA, 216 K
Christy Mathewson - 20-11, 2.50 ERA, 246 K
Case Patten - 18-12, 2.32 ERA, 156 K
Ed Scott - 9-1, 1.27 ERA, 35 Saves

FEDERAL LEAGUE CHAMPION: NEW YORK KNIGHTS (107-47)

Team Batting Average: .298 (1st)
Team ERA: 2.75 (7th)

Top Batters:
John Anderson - .390, 138 RBI, 31 SB
Willie Keeler - .383, 90 RBI, 64 SB
Terry Leach - .328, 100 RBI, 92 SB

Top Pitchers:
Dummy Leitner - 33-8, 2.33 ERA, 206 K
Win Kellum - 28-10, 2.53 ERA, 138 K
Frank "Yip" Owen - 24-14, 2.83 ERA, 161 K

The differences between the leagues are most apparent when comparing the two champs. The Continental League is dominated by pitching, most obvious by the Scarlets' staff which has the city of Cincinnati in a veritable fever. The Knights totally dominated the Federal League and most fans expect them to dominate the CL champs, but don't be surprised if it's closer than expected.

PREDICTION: Knights in 6

1901 WORLD SERIES

9/30/1906 - GAME 1 KNIGHTS 1 - SCARLETS 4

21 year old rookie Christy Mathewson allows 5 hits in the first 2 innings, but shuts down the Knights through 8, enough for Ed Scott to finish the Knights off in the 9th.

10/1/1906 - GAME 2 KNIGHTS 7 - SCARLETS 4

Despite 4 errors, the Knights are able to tie the Series up on 5 runs in the 6th, sparked by a bases-loaded double from Roy Hobbs. Cincy rallied for 3 in the 9th, but it was not enough.

10/3/1906 - GAME 3 SCARLETS 2 - KNIGHTS 3

Back in New York, the Scarlets found themselves error-prone this time, bobbling 4 balls, leading to 2 unearned runs in the 3rd on an errant throw from Scarlets' backstop, Billy Sullivan.

10/4/1906 - GAME 4 SCARLETS 5 - KNIGHTS 3

Mathewson shut down the Scarlets for the first 5 innings, but they finally broke with 3 in the 6th and 2 in the 8th to tie the Series up at 2. Mike Donlin led Cincy with 3 hits and 2 RBI.

10/5/1906 - GAME 5 SCARLETS 10 - KNIGHTS 4

The Scarlets looked like they would be heading back to Cincy down 3 games to 2 as they headed into the top of the 8th trailing 4-2. George Bone and Roy Hobbs each launched a bomb off of Knights' ace Dummy Leitner to launch the team past New York 10-4.

10/7/1906 - GAME 6 KNIGHTS 5 - SCARLETS 4

The Knights sent it to Game 7 by holding off Cincy in this squeaker. Another 9th inning rally by the Scarlets nearly sent New York home, but they held on.

10/8/1906 - GAME 7 KNIGHTS 3 - SCARLETS 5

New York broke a 1-1 tie with a run in the 6th and extended their lead on a solo shot off the bat of "Honest John" Anderson. Unfortunately for the Knights, the Scarlets would not disappoint their fans, rallying for 4 runs on 5 hits in the bottom of the 8th. As Ed Scott closed it out in the top of the 9th, Scarlet Park exploded in cheers for the winners of the 1st ever World Series crown.

Pete, are those real rookies? Or just the two best players since this is the first year of the league?

Another must read, your idea is very interesting as usual. Maybe this time I will be able to get my act together and create a player (who will probably end up being a career minor leaguer).
