Top Arm Nods Go To Dyson and Poe

Awards may not be the most important thing for Hollis Dyson, but Washington's left-hander smiled as he was named the AMERICAN LEAGUE PITCHER OF THE YEAR winner. This season Dyson compiled an ERA of 3.63, going 26-10 in 41 starts. He fanned 150 while giving up 337 hits in 322.1 innings. He's 8th in the AMERICAN LEAGUE in ERA and 2nd in wins!

The 1922 NATIONAL LEAGUE PITCHER OF THE YEAR winner is from Boston (N) this year. Gabriel Poe put together impressive numbers on the mound this season as is his habit, but this year he was finally rewarded. His ERA of 2.26 helped him to a 27-4 record this year. He struck out 183 and walked 69 in 330.2 innings. He has 9 complete games and 4 shutouts. He's 1st in the NATIONAL LEAGUE in ERA and 1st in wins!

Coltrane Wins His 2nd BATTER OF THE YEAR Award; Dane Repeats in the NL.

The AMERICAN LEAGUE BATTER OF THE YEAR goes to Julius Coltrane this year. He had an extraordinary season! His season numbers are: .366 AVG, 200 hits, 48 doubles, 10 triples and 12 bombs, along with 141 RBI and 117 runs scored. He's 2nd in the AMERICAN LEAGUE in batting and 1st in RBI! Coltrane wins the award for the 2nd time in his 11-year career.

The 1922 NATIONAL LEAGUE BATTER OF THE YEAR winner has been announced as well. It's Brooklyn's first baseman Jim Dane who really had a great offensive year. While compiling an on base percentage of .371, Jim hit .295 and slugged .559. He has collected 124 runs batted in this year. He's 1st in the NATIONAL LEAGUE in RBIs and 2nd in homeruns! Dane wins the award for the 2nd time in his 8-year career.

Young Backstops Win ROOKIE OF THE YEAR in Both Leagues

Getting an award is a nice way to start a career. Washington's Del McLeary smiled as he was named the AMERICAN LEAGUE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR winner. Del is hitting .339 this year, with 131 hits in 387 at bats. He has driven in 78 runs, slugging .465.

Seymour Humphrey was named the NATIONAL LEAGUE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR winner today. Chicago (N)'s catcher put up pretty good numbers for a rookie this year. This 22 year old kid will probably have a long and successful career! Humphrey has walked 30 times this year and posts a .330 OBP. While batting .272, 96 for 353, he has driven in 45 runs.

Brooklyn is called the Dodgers in our reality during this era because there is obviously no Wilbert Robinson to honor with the name Robins.

  • January 14 - Alfred Reed is officially named the manager of the Detroit Tigers. Reed took over for Chris Creed in the final week of the 1921 season after Creed was hit in the face with a ball during batting practice. Creed began suffering vertigo and fainting spells and relinquished the manager's job, choosing to concentrate solely on GM duties.

  • March 6 - Jim Dane re-signs with Brooklyn for three years at $52,000 a year. The-next-highest paid Dodger is Gene "The Machine" Lassiter at $26,000. Rumors fly that the deal is the cause of much tension within the Brooklyn clubhouse.
  • March 9 - Larry Abercrombie signs a four-year contract with the Senators calling for $28,500 per season. This makes the D.C. legend the highest paid player in American League history
  • March 18 - In India, Mohandas Gandhi is sentenced to six years in prison for sedition
  • March 28 - The Toronto St. Patricks win their 1st Stanley Cup, defeating the Vancouver Millionaires 3 games to 2
  • April 7 - Teapot Dome Scandal: United States Secretary of the Interior Albert B Fall leases the Naval oil reserves in Wyoming to Harry F. Sinclair of Mammoth Oil and the Naval oil reserves at Elk Hills, California, to Edward L. Doheny of Pan American Petroleum, without competitive bidding. • May 12 - A 20-ton meteorite lands near Blackstone, Virginia.
  • May 24 - Aloysius O'Reilly is suspended one day and fined $200 for throwing dirt on ump George Hildebrand after being called out at 2B while trying to stretch a single in the 3rd. Chum Bucket then goes into the stands after a heckler and is restrained by manager Al Bennett. On his way to the CF clubhouse O'Reilly gestures to another heckler in RF. Chum Bucket gets stripped of his title as team captain as a result.
  • May 25 - The U.S. Supreme Court, in a resounding 9–0 decision, rule that baseball is not an interstate business. The suit had been brought by the Federal League's Baltimore franchise.
  • May 30 - In Washington, D.C., the Lincoln Memorial is dedicated.
  • June 1 - Jurgen Verherrsch of the Washington Senators became the first ever player to 400 wins with a complete game against the St. Louis Browns. On his way to this amazing accomplishment, he set a career high with 27 wins in 1907 and won 20 or more games a season 14 times. • November 27 - Former Washington ace, Charlie Searing, 36, dies from a brain tumor. He remains the only player to ever notch 30 wins in a single season in the modern era in 1913. Over the next few seasons, Searing began experiencing vertigo and double vision and it visibly affected his game. He toughed it out for the next 7 years but was never the same pitcher, retiring after a stint in the minors during spring training this year. Soon after, he was hospitalized.
  • December 5 - British parliament enacts the Irish Free State Constitution Act, by which it legally sanctions the new Constitution of the Irish Free State.
  • December 13 - Alarmed at the increase in home run hitting (1,040 in the major leagues, up from 931), some American League owners back a zoning system setting a minimum of 300 feet for a ball to be called a home run. The motion dies. In another action, the league requires each club to furnish two home uniforms per player, plus extra caps and stockings on the road, to improve the players' appearance. In National League meetings, Charles Ebbets proposes putting numbers on players' sleeves or caps. It's left to each club to do as it wishes.
  • December 14 - In a joint meeting, the ban on nonwaiver trades after June 15th is approved. The National League favors a 50-player limit until June 15th, the American League votes for 40. • December 16 - The Eastern Colored League (chartered as the Mutual Association of Eastern Colored Baseball Clubs) is formally organized. The league will complete five seasons before folding in midsummer of 1928.
  • December 30 - Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and the Transcaucasia come together to form the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.

Ouch, didn't know we killed of Charlie Searing. His 1913 season may be the greatest fluke season ever. Also, Jim Joy won 30 games in 1901 - doesn't the modern era go from 1901 onwards?

I think what Carter said when he peered in is one of the most beautiful lines uttered in the history of real life (as opposed to in literature). Seriously makes me the room all dusty for me when I think about it.

"I see wonderful things."

Yes taking out the largest city in North America not in the US from being a potential market is a smooth business move.
