2013 - Games 37-42

The Croupiers played well this week in their very inconsistent 2013 season.

Game #37

Las Vegas 12
Baltimore 2

WP - Leondaro Bonet (2-5)
LP - David Frisch (3-2)

Star of Game - Dallas McPherson (3-6, 3 RBI's)

Homers
Las Vegas - Donnie Corman (10)

Comments - The Croupiers took apart the Orioles young stud pitcher early and gave Bonet the support he needed to be in cruise control

Game #38

Kansas City 8
Las Vegas 2

WP - Matt Cain (2-3)
LP - Danny Haren (4-1)

Star of Game - Bill Lumbergh (3-5, 3 RBI's) (Gary Cole in Office Space)

Homers
Las Vegas - Dallas McPherson (1)

Comments - Cain takes a no hitter into the 8th inning and then McPherson pinch hits and slams his first bomb of the season. Haren was not effective today.

Game #39

Las Vegas 4
Kansas City 1

WP - Cole Hamels (5-2)
LP - Willie Conway (3-3) (Timothy Hutton in Beautiful Girls)
Save - Ramon Ramirez (5)

Star of Game - Cole Hamels (7 IP, 6 hits, 1 ER, 2 K's)

Homers
Las Vegas - Sal Diez (1)

Comments - Hamels had incredible stuff and is having a superb rebound season. Diez finally goes yard in the 39th game.

Game #40

Las Vegas 6
Kansas City 1

WP - Donald "Boon" Schoenstein (3-4)
LP - Wayne Howell (3-6)

Star of Game - Alfonso Soriano (3-4, 4 RBI's)

No Homers

Comments - A solid game for Soriano with 2 big triples and Schoenstein had great mechanics for a change

Game #41

Las Vegas 10
Boston 4

WP - Turtle Ferrara (1-1)
LP - John Maine (3-5)

Star of Game - Dallas McPherson (2-4, 3 RBI's)

Homers
Boston - Jay Tarango (1) (1st MLB)
Las Vegas - Alfonso Soriano (5)

Comments - Turtle was terrible early and then cruised and struck out 10 for an encouraging performance

Game #42

Boston 4
Las Vegas 3

WP - Kelvim Escobar (5-1)
LP - Leonardo Bonet (2-6)
Save - Glen Perkins (16)

Star of Game - Akisumi Yoshida (3-5, HR, RBI) (2013 Japan Import)

Homers
Boston - Akisumi Yoshida (5), Jhonny Peralta (4), Hector Luna (3)

Comments - Bonet just gives up too many gopher balls and it is hard to get wins when you are that vulnerable to the longball.

Trade

Baltimore Orioles send Arnold Stone (1st/34th overall 2011 from Acworth, GA), Angel Franco (8th/2011 Venezuela), Alex Moates (6th/2011 Nationals from Wilson, NC) and Marcus Reno (2nd/2012 from Florissant, CO) to the Las Vegas Croupiers for Jeff Fiorentino and Dennis Sarfate..... trade was made since the O's have the Donger catching and the rise of Gene Rayo in the minors made Sarfate expendable.

Status

Las Vegas is 21-21 in 4th place in the AL West trailing first place Seattle Mariners by 6 games.

LP - Ramon Ramirez (1-3)
Save - Glen Perkins (17)

Game #44

Las Vegas 6
Cleveland 1

WP - Cole Hamels (6-2)
LP - Kyle Davies (0-3)

Star of Game - Cole Hamels (CG, 4 hits, 1 ER, 8 K's)

Homers

LP - Doug Boysen (5-4)
Save - Gene Rayo (1)

Star of Game - Alfonso Soriano (2-3, HR 4 RBI's)

LP - Chien Mien Wang (2-6)

Star of Game - Pedro Espino (CG, 6 hits, 1 ER, 6 K's)

Corey Koskie is 40 years old in 2013, as this simulation started he was a Milwaukee Brewer. IN 2007, Koskie hit 39 homers, drove in 121 runs and batted 314 for the Brewers. He kept similar production up in 2008 and landed a monster contract with the Toronto Blue Jays. Koskie ironically is Canadian and it made sense even though it was random. He was quite productive for Toronto before being dealt back to his original team the Twins in 2011 He is 28 hits away from 2000 for his career.

Eric Gagne is the setup man for the Twins at 37 years old as they use him to get to Pat Neshek who has been the long time closer now for the Twins. In 2006, his ERA was around 9.00 for the Dodgers and it seemed he was done. The Croupiers took a chance on him in 2007 and he stunk up the joint for the 2nd year expansion team. He was released and claimed by the Philadelphia Phillies. Where he finished the season with a 3.57 ERA and got back on track. In 2008, the San Diego Padres threw some big dollars at Gagne and he ended up there. He was a workhorse for the Padres, as he appeared in 273 games in 3 seasons with them He signed in 2011 with the Twins where he has been the 8th inning man for 3 seasons now.

Here are the guys who are 38 and over in the league in 2013.

Anaheim Angels - None

Arizona Diamondbacks
Scot Shields (38) - Came to Arizona in 2007 and has been in the pen ever since, had been their closer with 46 saves in 2009

Atlanta Braves - None

Baltimore Orioles
Marlon Anderson (39) - in Triple A, really found himself over the past 6 years with the O's, had 115 RBI's in 2011

Pedro Feliz (38) - in Triple A. hanging by a thread, best years of recent were in Los Angeles with the Dodgers had 27 homers in 2009 for them

Boston Red Sox
Scott Rolen (38) - in Triple A, did decent for the Cardinals up until 2012 before they cut him, was in Brewers system in 2012, and now in Beantown. has 363 career homers

Cleveland Indians
Bobby Abreu (39) - is 5 hits shy of 2600 hits now and is starting to finally fade. Sim started in 2006 so he never left Philly until 2009 and ended up in Texas for a few seasons and in his 3rd year with the tribe, was an all star in 2011.

Minnesota Twins
Corey Koskie (40) - see above

Geremi Gonzalez (38) - in triple A. He just died in real life, so it is nice to see him still pitching in 2013 in alternate life. He avoids the lightning bolt and moves on. He has bounced all over the league. Won 10 games in 2008 for the La Dodgers.

Torii Hunter (38) - in triple A. In this sim he never leaves the Twin Cites. IN 2010 he had 128 RBI.s and is just 2 homers shy of 300 for his career, hoping for a Sept callup

Alex Rodriguez (38) - in triple A, has never left New York. Had 100 RBI's in 2010 but has deteriorated fast. Has 2,800 hits and 549 homers.

St Louis Cardinals
Daryle Ward (38) - in triple A, was a steady role player for many years for the Baltimore Orioles before bouncing around

Syracuse Chiefs
Jason Kendall (39) - in triple A, has 1,992 hits and needs 8 more to get to 2000 but his hitting under .100 in the minors for Syracuse. was an all star in 2008 for Oakland but has bounced

Tampa Bay Devilrays - None

Texas Rangers - None

Toronto Blue Jays - None

Washington Nationals
Chipper Jones (41) - there is no quit to this guy. Was an All Star for his 5th time in 6 seasons this year. Has 23 HR 76 RBI and .301 and we are not in September yet. Has 594 Homers and 3,105 hits. Played well for Atlanta. Traded to Milwaukee in 2009 and then signed with Washington in 2012.

Gary Matthews Jr (39) - in triple A, had 108 RBI's in 2007 for the Cincinnati Reds and spent 2008-2011 with the Dodgers as a decent player before bouncing around.
