Pittsburgh Gets:
1B Ken Youkilis
P David Pauley
Bost Gets:
3B Jose Bautista

Boston shot themselves in the foot with this deal. Bautista had just 111 AB's last year due to injury and hit .265 with 5HR's. Not too impressive. Youk at least carried a .375 OBP.

San Francisco: Free agent 2B Ray Durham has been signed to a contract of $4,845,100 per year, for 4 years.
Chicago (A): Free agent CF Bobby Higginson has been signed to a contract of $610,200 per year, for 3 years.
Minnesota: Free agent LF Raul Ibanez has been signed to a contract of $6,482,400 per year, for 4 years.
Pittsburgh: Free agent 3B Tony Graffanino has been signed to a contract of $4,422,600 per year, for 3 years.
Cincinnati: Free agent C Gregg Zaun has been signed to a contract of $834,600 per year, for 5 years.
Texas: Free agent C Todd Greene has been signed to a contract of $492,800 per year, for 2 years.
Toronto: Free agent SS Pokey Reese has been signed to a contract of $444,000 per year, for 3 years.
Tampa Bay: Free agent P Ugueth Urbina has been signed to a contract of $3,289,200 per year, for 4 years.

Detroit Gets:
P David Pauley
3B Wes Helms
Pittsburgh Gets:
SS Tony Giarratano

Pitt won on this deal. Helms hit 14HR's last season in limited time but isn't too good and doesn't carry much upside. Tony is 24 and still a high level spec. He hit .295 last year in 204 AB's. Pauley is trash.

Giambi Fights with Torre!

5/1/06

Ted Wiliford
Staff Writer

After a recent lost to the Toronto Blue Jays, Yankees skipper called 1B/DH Jason Giambi into his office to discuss his play. Giambi was said to have struck the skipper after an intense conversation. When Giambi struck Torre in the side of the face, reserves Andy Phillips and Miguel Cairo happened to be outside waiting to see Torre. They darted in and held Giambi back. One unnamed Yankee player referred to Giambi's attack as being a result of "roid rage." Yankees GM was quoted as saying " We stand by Joe. He is our manager and will be our manager for a while."," Jason was clearly out of line in this situation and it will not be tolerated." Jenkins had no further comments on what would happen to Giambi. One scout jokingly said " I think they should trade him, but I don't believe anyone would take him." Some say he will be given his release, while a few close to the team have hear of interest from the Royals, Pirates and Padres. Joe Torre was taken to the hospital and released with minor bruising.
Wow! Is this just a PR ploy to get rid of an aging bat without backlash? I did'nt see any bruise on Torre's face

What's Giambi hitting?

He was traded to Pitt and signed as a FA with the Giants after being released by the Pirates in the off-season. I'll post his numbers for last season tomorrow.

Billy Ball?

Imagine if Billy Martin did steroids! Reggie's head would have been knocked out of the infield.

Jason Giambi hit .233 last year with 26HR's and 80RBI. He was released by Pitt on 10/9/2006. You know your bad when Pitt releases you

More notes on former Yankees:

Melky Cabrera hit .303 with 5HR and 35RBI. He also stole 36 bases and scored 80 runs for the Pirates.

Colter Bean finished last year with a 2.97 ERA in 67.1 IP for the Pirates. He could have helped us alot last year.

Jaret Wright went 17-7 with a 4.00 ERA for the Cards. He actually threw a no-hitter against the Reds.

J. Brent Cox threw in 14 ML games for the Angels and carried a 2.92 ERA.

Shawn Chacon finished the season as a reliever for the Angels and went 8-8 with a 3.98 ERA. He is now a reliever for the Giants.

Sean Henn went 1-3 in 7 games started for the Angels last year while carrying a 5.53 ERA.

Webb decided not to suck and actually pitch. So we get our first win. Reese went deep filling in for Lane. Eric Duncan drove in 3 runs. One bad thing about this game...Brandon Donnelly got hurt

PoG: Eric Duncan(2-4 1R 3RBI)

Donnelly Out!

Ted Wiliford
Staff Writer

Right handed reliever, Brandon Donnelly, was injured in today's game. He came on to pitch in a game that was clearly over with the Yankees leading 10-3. He has bone chips in his shoulder and will miss the rest of the year. Last season, Donnelly went 3-5 with 6 saves and a 2.21 ERA. He also had 3 postseason wins out of the pen. Donnelly will be replaced by minor league righthander David Aardsma. Aardsma, once a high level prospect, has bounced around a bit before landing with the Yankees.
