Thank you again for the response. When is this Giants version going to be up? I'd be interested in following it.

Week Twenty-Three: September 4-10, 2006

I just realized that I forgot to give the "What's On Tap?" portion of the report last post. I'm sorry, but I'm sure you'll get over it.

9/04: vs Dodgers (72-64/35-30 Rd), loss 6-11 - LP: Blanton (11-7)
This game just went down the drain from the fifth inning on. They scored 2, 1, 2, and 3 runs from the 5th-8th innings. We had 16 hits, but 8 guys were left on base. Tony Gwynn, Nelson Cruz, Bill Hall, and Jeff Mathis all had two hit days. Nelson Cruz hit a double and a home run in his first start of the year. Erick Aybar had a big day also going 3-4 with a runa nd RBI. Rickie Weeks did NOT get on base today. Blanton didn't have his best stuff, giving up five runs in 4.2 innings pitched.

9/05: vs Dodgers, loss 3-18 - LP: Sheets (6-14)
Some games just aren't worth commenting on. It's like a losing press conference in which the manager doesn't really want to be there. I just don't want to write this.

9/06: vs Dodgers, loss 4-10 - LP: Jackson (4-4)
Our season continues in its downward trend as we took a 2-0 lead into the sixth and then went into the seventh 4-8. Rickie Weeks, Chone Figgins, and Prince Fielder all were 2-4 and all had runs. Fielder also had a RBI. Juan Rivera was also 2-4 with two RBIs. The worst part is that Cincinnati has lost three straight, so we could be gaining ground in the division. Oh well that was a long shot anyways.

9/07: OFF

9/08: vs Houston (66-74/30-39 Rd), loss 1-2 - LP: Villanueva (4-4)
We were down 2-0 the whole game, and in the ninth we were able to load up the bases and score a run. We were only down one with the bases loaded, but we choked. It's becoming quite often that we do that. I decided to try batting Aybar second in this game and he went 2-4 with a run scored. I'll teake that. Villanueva pitched very well, but not as good as Phillip Barzilla.

9/09: vs Houston, loss 2-7 - LP: Bush (8-13)
Bush was dealing up until the sixth inning and then allowed five runs for them to open up the lead 5-2. We can't seem to find a way to hit lately, and that isn't good considering our pitching hasn't been very special so far this season. Fielder was 2-4 today with a two-run home run, which was nice to see as he's been really struggling since like June. Erick Aybar was also 3-3, and Chone Figgins was 1-3 with a run and walk.

9/10: vs Houston, win 4-2 - WP: Kolb (5-3)
If not for a game-winning home run off the bat of Geoff Jenkins in the bottom of the ninth, we would have had our first winless week, but I am happy to report that is not the case. We only managed to get three hits in the game (all three coming in the seventh on) and had two walks other than that. Weeks, Figgins, and Jenkins each had a hit. Weeks doubled in the seventh to break up the no-no, then stole third base, and was driven in on a Chone Figgins grounder out. In the ninth Weeks led off with a ground out. Chone Figgins then bunted his way on, and moved to third on a Prince Fielder two base error. Jenkins then decided to take the game in his hands, and delivered a 425 foot shot to right field, that was a no doubter.

Jay's Thoughts: A very disappointing week overall, the final game was very exciting for us. I am hoping it carries into next week. We fell to nine games back of Cincinnati, which basically puts our season in the books after the next few weeks. I am considering calling up some more relief pitching to help fill in for our currently overworked bullpen. Who knows, maybe we could find some new arms. Those call-ups will be given at the end of this report. I am getting some ideas on what I should do this offseason, and cannot wait to arrive at that point.

Team Stats
Record: 68-75 (1-5)
L10: 4-6
Batting Average: .251 - 13th in NL
ERA: 4.75 - 15th in NL
Team Power Rank: 20th, 85 pts

Down on the Farm
Instead of doing the usual top ten report, I am going to pick out a person from each team that stands out and report on him, both pitchers, and hitters.

AAA Nashville
Hitting: 1B Brad Nelson - .302/.407/.466, 15 HR, 77 RBI, 41 2B
Pitching: MR Mike Adams - 35 G, 2-1, 3 S, 2.18 ERA, .234 AVE

If it weren't for Cruz being with the big league club, he would have gotten the recognition that Nelson got, however that wasn't the case. I am not sure how much of a future he has with us at this point, as he isn't really the type of guy I'm looking for at the moment. We also have Fielder ahead of him. Adams will probably be one of the guys to get the promotion to the big leagues, and I think he could be one of the guys to be with us next year.

AA Huntsville
Hitting: CF Drew Anderson - .305/.369/.404, 37 2B, 74 RBI, 25 SB
Pitching: CL Steve Bray - 45 G, 2-4, 27 S, 3.19 ERA, .219 AVE

We were kind of thin here in 2006, but next year I am looking forward to what this team is going to have to offer, as a lot of the guys on that team will get the promotion. Anderson could be a leadoff hitter someday, but other than that he has basically no power at all. Bray will be the closer at Nashville next season, and could someday be a reliever in the Milwaukee bullpen.

A+ Bravard County
Hitting: CF Charlie Fermaint - .322/.389/.430, 10 HR, 19 2B, 5 3B, 84 R
Pitching: SP Steve Hammond - 31 GS, 9-11, 3.34 ERA, 181 K, 156.1 IP, .226 AVE

Hammond could find himself in the majors at some point next season, but will start off at AAA Nasvhille. If there is an injury of any sort he will get the promotion. Fermaint will start off at AA Hunstville, and I don't really see a spot on the big league club unless he can dwindle the current K rate he has. He could be a very good player someday.

A West Virginia
Hitting: CF Darren Ford - .291/.358/.367, 33 2B, 5 3B, 88 R, 36 SB
Pitching: SP Will Inman - 10-1, 2.02 ERA, 190 K, 160.2 IP

I really like what these two prospects bring to the table, although Inman is not expected to be much better (ratings wise) than he is right now. He will start out at AA Huntsville next season, but very well could end up in Nashville at some point. Ford doesn't have any power at all, but has the potential to be a stud leadoff hitter some day and will start out at Huntsville.

For the hitting and pitching I am going to give the weekly stats instead of the unchanging season stats. I will give those at the end of the month.

Hitting
1B Prince Fielder: .357/.471/.571, 1 HR, 5 RBI, 2 R
SS Erick Aybar: .435/.435/.478, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 4 R
RF Nelson Cruz: .417/.462/.750, 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 2 R

Pitching
SP Dave Bush: 12.2 IP, 1-1, 12 HA, 3.55 ERA, .250 AVE
SP Carlos Villanueva: 0-1, 8.0 IP, 6 K, 2.25 ERA
MR Robert Hinton: 4 G, 6.2 IP, 4 HA, 7 K, 2.70 ERA, .182 AVE

Week Twenty-Four: September 11-17, 2006

9/11: @ Pirates (67-77/30-39 Hm), win 7-1 - WP: Gallardo (2-0)
I decided to give Yovani Gallardo the start today, instead of Ben Sheets, who has been struggling as of late. He pitched well, lasting seven innings (89 pitches) giving up four hits and striking out eight. He gave up the lone run. Rickie Weeks and Chone Figgins combined to go 5-9 with five runs and four RBIs. Weeks was 2-4 with three runs and two stolen bases, and Figgins was 3-5 with four RBIs and two runs. Fielder hit a solo shot in the ninth, which was nice to see again.

9/12: @ Pirates, loss 3-7 - LP: Jackson (4-5)
Jackson struggled in this game, especially with his command. That happened in the last game he pitched too. He only lasted two innings and gave up five earned runs. Ben Sheets came in for a relief appearance and gave us five very good innings that kept us in the game and allowed us to get within three. He then gave up two earned runs in the final inning he pitched. Prince Fielder had another big day and really seems to be heating up. He went 2-4 with a home runs and two RBIs. Rickie Weeks had another pretty good day going 1-3 with a run and a walk. Corey Hart was 1-4 with a run.

9/13: @ Pirates, win 4-3 - WP: Hendrickson (1-1), S: Turnbow (26)
For some reason the computer manager continues to pull Carlos Villanueva after only 3.1 innings of pitching. I don't really understand this, but the only thing I can think of is that it is because he has a mediocre 73 endurance. I am going to probably try to fix his endurance ratings so that it matches a more realistic number.

9/14: OFF

9/15: @ Nationals (69-78/33-37 Hm), loss 1-3 - LP: Bush (8-14)
Bush went a complete game, pitching eight innings and allowing three earned runs on six hits and one home run. Rickie Weeks had another hit from the lead off spot, although he did get caught stealing third. Jeff Mathis was 1-3 with a run scored, and Bill Hall was 2-4 and appears to be heating up somewhat.

9/16: @ Nationals, loss 2-3 - LP: Kolb (5-4)
We lost this game in a sucky way. Dan Kolb give up a walk to begin the inning. The next guy then grounded to the catcher, but it was basically a swinging bunt so the runner got to second. The next guy grounded to second base, and the runner advanced to third. The next pitch went off the catchers glove and the runner scored on a passed ball. We were only able to scavenge up six hits, and are really struggling to hit the ball at the moment.

9/17: @ Nationals, win 12-1 - WP: Sheets (7-14)
They took Sheets out after five innings, and Gallardo pitched three innings of two hit ball. We hit pretty well today, obviously. Bill Hall and Rickie Weeks had home runs. Geoff Jenkins had two. Jenks was 2-3 with three runs, two RBIs and two walks. Hall was also 2-3 with three runs, two RBIs and two walks. Erick Aybar continued to hit well and was 3-4 with a run, RBI, and walk. It should be noted that Jack Kershner pitched two really impressive innings coming from the bullpen.

Jay's Thoughts: Well, as I said last week this season could not end sooner. Yeah, I know 3-3 isn't bad. I am just ready to make the few changes necessary that are keeping us from being a winning team. Our pitching continues to do well, but the hitting can sure use a lift. I'm getting an idea of where I want to be next season and who I want to be on the team. It definitely will be interesting. We could gain some useless ground on the Cardinals next week, and maybe finish higher the fifth in the Central. We will see though. I think for these final two weeks I am going to go to a six man rotation and start Gallardo as well as the rest of the guys on the staff, and we can see what happens.

We have two very close races that are going to be interesting, and that is the AL East and the NL Wild Card. I am really hoping that Florida can pull it off, I must say I am a bit biased towards those small market teams. The Reds wouldn't be bad either, but I'd prefer the Marlins. The Braves have raelly underachieved this season, and it will be interesting to see what happens this offseason there.

Week Twenty-Five: September 18-24, 2006

I was wrong the first series was also at home.

9/18: vs Cardinals (74-74/37-37 Rd), win 7-2 - WP: Jackson (5-5)
Zach Jackson pitched well, going 5.2 innings and allowing only five hits and two runs that were unearned. He did walk three though. He struck out ieght. Not only did he pitch well, he helped himself out on offense and hit the first home run of his career. Figgins was 2-5 with a RBI, and Geoff Jenkins was 2-4 with a run scored. Juan Rivera had three RBIs, but was only 1-4 with a run. Erick Aybar continues to hit well going 2-4 with a run and RBI. We did have three errors as a team, which is something I don't like to see.

9/19: vs Cardinals, loss 3-5 - LP: Villanueva
Villanueva did not pitch well today, He lasted only 3.2 innings and gave up five runs with seven hits allowed. The bullpen pitched very well, particularly Ben Hendrickson who lasted three innings and allowed only one hit. Jeff Mathis was 2-3 with a run scored and Vinny Rottino also had a good day going 2-4 with a run scored. Prince Fielder was 2-3 with a RBI.

Playoff Watch:
Chicago (N) beat Philadelphia 1-0.
Atlanta beat Washington 7-6.
New York (N) beat Florida 3-2.
Cincinnati beat Houston 6-5.
San Diego lost to Arizona 1-8.
Boston lost to Minnesota 0-3.
Baltimore lost to Tampa Bay 4-9.

9/20: vs Cardinals, win 9-4 - WP: Bush (9-14)
We had 13 hits total as a team, and particularly the 2-4 guys had big days. Gwynn was 3-5 with a run and two RBI, Rivera was 2-5 with two runs and two RBI, and Hall was 3-4 with a triple, double, two RBIs, a run, and a walk. Fielder and Hart also had a double and triple respectively. Dave Bush lasted 6.1 innings, gave up five hits and a run. He struck out five.

Playoff Watch:
Cincinnati beat Houston 3-2, .5 GA Chicago (N) in Central.
Atlanta beat Washington 4-3, 4.5 GB of New York (N).
Philadelphia beat Chicago (N) 10-5, Chicago (N) .5 GB Cincinnati.
New York (N) beat Florida 4-3, Florida 2.5 GB New York (N) in wild card.
San Diego beat Arizona 10-1, San Diego 2.0 GB New York (N) in wild card.

9/21: vs Giants (65-87/31-46 Rd), loss 0-12 - LP: Blanton (11-8)
Well let's just say we didn't pitch very well in this game. Didn't help that we only had three hits also. Blanton and Kershner combined to give up 10 runs through the first four innings. Fielder had a double, but that is about it.

9/22: vs Giants, win 5-4 - WP: Turnbow (4-3), BS: (4)
Well, everything seemed to be alright after Rickie Weeks plowed into Gilder Rodriguez for the go-ahead run in the bottom of the seventh. However Ray Durham, who had been 0-4 on the day, took Derrick Turnbow to a strike away from the win, and hit a two run home run to put the Giants up 4-3. The next half inning we pinch hit Gabe Gross, but he struck out so it was one out. Rickie Weeks, who was 3-4 on the day, bunted and was able to beat out the play, and he then stole second on the very next pitch. Chone Figgins then took a 1-0 pitch to right-center field for a game-winning two run home run. Weeks ended up 4-5 with two doubles, three runs, and a RBI. Fielder was 1-2 with a RBI and a walk. Juan Rivera had a RBI in three at bats, and Jeff Mathis was 2-4 with a run scored.

Playoff Watch:
Florida beat Philadelphia 3-1, .5 GB of New York (N) in Wild Card
Cincinnati beat Chicago (N) 5-4, 1.5 GA Chicago (N), Cubs .5 GB of New York (N) in Wild Card
New York (N) lost to Washington 4-7, .5 GA New York (N) in Wild Card
Atlanta beat Colorado 10-0, 2.5 GB New York (N) in Wild Card
San Diego beat Pittsburgh 6-2, 1 GB New York (N) in Wild Card

9/23: vs Giants, win 4-3 (10) - WP: Adams (1-0)
Well we trailed this whole game 3-0, until the bottom of the ninth when we worked out six straight hits to tie it up. We did have the bases loaded in that inning, but could not pull it off and went into the top of the tenth. The tenth started with Kiko Calero throwing a pitch and getting injured, so that isn't good. The Giants were then able to load up the bases with just one out, before Mike Adams got a guy to pop out and fly out to end the inning. In the bottom of the tenth Erick Aybar drove in the game-winning run with an RBI single. Jeff Mathis and Geoff Jenkins both homered today. Bill Hall was 2-5 with a run scored, Jeff Mathis was 2-4 with a run and RBI and a double, and Erick Aybar was 3-5 with a RBI. Vinny Rottino also came off the bench with a big pinch-hit RBI in the ninth.

Playoff Watch:
Chicago (N) beat Cincinnati 8-1, .5 GB Cincinnati in division, tied for first in Wild Card
Florida beat Philadelphia 7-1, tied for first in Wild Card
New York (N) lost to Washington 1-2, .5 GB of Florida and Chicago (N) in Wild Card
Atlanta lost to Colorado 1-5, 3 GB of Florida and Chicago (N) in Wild Card
San Diego beat Pittsburgh 2-1, .5 GB of Florida and Chicago (N) in Wild Card

9/24: vs Giants, loss 1-4 - LP: Jackson (5-6)
We could not hit this game, and we only had four hits all game. Jackson was able to go 7.2 innings and allowed only two earned runs with 11 strikeouts. He also only walked one which was nice to see. He did give up one unearned run. Other than that, there's really not much to say.

Jay's Thoughts: Going 4-3 in the week isn't bad, but it sure would have been nice to get a couple more wins against these struggling teams we played this week. It's hard to believe that there is only one more full week before I have finished the first season. I never thought I'd be able to play out a whole season like I have this year, and it goes surprisingly quick when you only play a game or two per series. I debated whether or not I wanted to go with a six-man rotation, but I thought it'd be a good way to get all six pitchers that will be on the team next year (or fighting for a spot at least) some time this September.

That NL Wild Card is definitely going to go into the playoffs hot, that's for sure. I realized that I have been not updating the AL East race. That is my fault, and I will do so this coming week. The Dodgers have basically clinched, and it will be interesting to see if the Padres can sneak in. If the Mets got in then they may make some noise.

Week Twenty Six: September 25-October 1, 2006

Well it's been a long twenty six weeks and we have had some peaks and valleys this season. Like I said in the previous post, it's amazing that I have been able to keep this thing going with playing the amount of games out that I do. It has really worked well for me. I am kind of hoping that this last report can be the best report yet, but I guess we will have to wait and see now won't we?

9/25: OFF

Playoff Watch:
Chicago (N) beats Cincinnati 6-4, now 1.5 GA Cincinnati in Central, Cincinnati now 1 GB of NYN and FLO in Wild Card
New York (N) beats Washington 3-2, now tied with Florida for Wild Card
San Diego beats St. Louis 9-8, now 1.0 GB of Florida and New York (N) for Wild Card
Boston lost to Toronto 5-3, now .5 GA of Baltimore in East
Baltimore did not play, now .5 GB of Boston in East

9/26: @ Chicago (N) (83-74/37-39 Hm), win 9-7 - WP: Hendrickson (2-1), S: Turnbow (27)
Carlos Villanueva had another tough outing and lasted only 2.2 innings while giving up five runs. The bullpen pitched very well today, going 6.1 innings and allowing only two runs and three hits. They struck out six. Rickie Weeks hit a home run and was 2-5 with a run and two RBI. He also had a stolen base. Prince Fielder was 1-4 with two runs scored. Bill Hall continues to hit well and was 2-3 with two runs, a RBI, and two walks. Juan Rivera had a big day going 3-3 with three RBIs, a walk, and two runs scored. Erick Aybar was 2-5 with three RBIs also. We had 13 total hits as a team.

Playoff Watch:
Chicago (N) lost to Milwaukee 7-9, now 1.5 GA Cincinnati in Central
Florida beat Cincinnati 15-5, now tied with New York (N) for Wild Card, Cincinnati now 2.0 GB of Wild Card

Boston beat Tampa Bay 11-2, now 1.5 GA of Baltimore in East

9/27: @ Chicago, win 6-1 - WP: Bush (10-14)
Bush pitched very well, and Scot Shields and Jason Kershner came out of the bullpen to pitch well also, as we hit our way to another win. Erick Aybar stayed hot today, going 3-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Prince Fielder was 4-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored, and Rickie Weeks was 2-3 with two walks and a run scored. He also stole two bases.

Playoff Watch:
Cincinnati beat Florida 7-4, Cin 2.0 GB of New York (N) in Wild Card, .5 GB of Chicago (N) in Central, Florida 1.0 GB of New York (N)
New York (N) beat Atlanta 5-2, 1.0 GA of Florida and San Diego in Wild Card
Chicago (N) lost to Milwaukee 1-6, .5 GA of Cincinnati in Central

Baltimore beat New York (A) 15-3, 1.5 GB of Boston in East
Boston beat Tampa Bay 8-5, 1.5 GA of Baltimore in East

9/28: @ St. Louis (75-83/37-40 Hm), win 8-4 (10) - WP: Turnbow (5-3), BS: (5)
Well, Joe Blanton definitely deserved a win in this game, going eight innings and allowing only two runs. Derrick Turnbow then came in in the bottom of the ninth to give up to runs and allowed them to tie it back up at 4. We scored four runs in the tenth to pull it off. Bill Hall hit a solo home run, but that was the only round-tripper for us this game. Rickie Week was 2-5 with a run, stolen base, and a walk. Geoff Jenkins went 2-4 with a run, Corey Hart was 2-5 with a run scored and RBI, he also stole a base. Jeff Mathis drove in a run and scored also while going 1-3.

Playoff Watch:
Florida beat Cincinnati 5-4, Florida now tied with New York (N) in Wild Card, Cincinnati 1 GB of of Chicago (N) in Central
New York (N) lost to Atlanta 2-5, tied with Florida for Wild Card
San Diego lost to Arizona 1-4, 1.0 GB of Florida and New York (N) in Wild Card
Baltimore lost to New York (A) 3-16, 2.0 GB of Boston in East
Boston Did Not Play, 2.0 GA of Baltimore in East

9/29: @ St. Louis, win 4-0 - WP: Gallardo (3-0)
Gallardo pitched very well in his final start of the year, and I cannot wait until he can come out of the rotation for us for a full season. He is going to be one exciting pitcher. He pitched eight innigns and gave up eight hits, but had nine K's with no walks. I like the second stat the most! Rickie Weeks was 1-3 with a run and two walks, and Prince Fielder was 2-5 with a RBI. Gabe Gross got a start today and went 1-3 with a big RBI single and also scored a run. Jeff Mathis hit his 19th home run of the year and was 2-4 with two RBIs.

Playoff Watch:
Chicago (N) beat Colorado 5-4, 1.0 GA of Cincinnati in Central
New York (N) beat Washington 4-0, 1.0 GA of Florida in Wild Card
Cincinnati beat Pittsburgh 12-6, 1.0 GB of Chicago (N) in Central
Florida lost to Philadelphia 1-6, 1.0 GB of New York (N) in Wild Card
San Diego lost to Arizona 0-4, 2.0 GB of New York (N) in Wild Card
Baltimore beat Boston 5-1, 1.0 GB of Boston in East

9/30: @ St. Louis, loss 1-3 - LP: Sheets (7-15)
Ben Sheets pitched seven innings and gave up only two earned runs. We only had three hits as a team, and one of them came from Nelson Cruz, but that was about it.

Playoff Watch:
Chicago (N) lost to Colorado 1-3, 1 GA of Cincinnati.
San Diego lost to Arizona 2-5, Eliminated
Florida lost to Philadelphia 1-5, 1 GB New York (N)
Washington lost to New York (N) 0-4, 1 GA of Florida
Baltimore lost to Boston 0-2, Boston clinches the AL East

10/01: @ St. Louis, loss 1-5 - LP: Jackson (5-7)
Well Jackson didn't pitch half bad in this one, going seven innings and allowing only three runs, but our team again did not hit the ball, and we only managed five hits as a team. Rickie Weeks hit his 19th home run on the year, and Prince Fielder had a double, but other than that we didn't do much else.

Jay's Thoughts: Well, I am going to say that I don't like losing. However, I feel that we have a strong nucleaus of players that can be winners in Milwaukee for years to come. I am excited to get to the offseason and put a bit of my mark on this team, other than just mid season trades. I am going to debate how I want to play out the playoffs, but I must warn it might not be as in-depth as some people are hoping. I think I am going to post each series outline (of the games played) and then in the World Series I might limit myself to a one sentence recap on the game, or something like that. Then we can get to the offseason, the part I'm looking forward to most.

In the final race of the season (the NL Wild Card) the Mets lost and FLorida won, so it came down to a one-game playoff. I actually watched the whole game to see what would happen (it was so nice to not be under pressure to make all the decisions ), and it was a good one. In the second the Mets jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a Carlos Delgado home run. They then scored two more in the third and jumped out to a 4-0 lead, and this one looks like a blowout. The Marlins got one back in the bottom of the fifth on a Miguel Cabrera single. The Mets got that run back in the seventh on a Carlos Beltran double, and now led the game 5-1. The Marlins scored got something going in the bottom of the eighth, but were only able to manage one run out of it, and from there it looked like New York had control of the game, and that was the case as both teams scored in the ninth to make it a 6-3 win for the Mets, and they are the NL Wild Card champs.

I am not sure what I'm going to do with the playoffs yet, (as I said before), but I do have some overviews for you, including the team and league.

Got to love the Mets in those one game playoffs.

Interesting how Ben Sheets was 7-15 for you. In my dynasty he has 3 straight 20 win seasons from 2006-2008 for the Brewers with 3 trophies to go along with it.

Yeah I don't really understand it either. I am hoping it might have just been an off season because his ratings don't point to that kind of performance from him. He definitely struggled though this year for us, and was probably most inconsistent of any of my pitchers this season. I am going to give him another shot though I can tell you that .

Right now I am pretty far ahead along. I just began the playoffs, but I want to post the league review for 2006 before the playoffs begin, and the MVP, Cy Youngs, ROY, etc. don't get announced until later on so I may have to just do those seperate. I did want to include those though.

I would say that we hit the ball pretty well this year. We had some big power numbers, but also struck out at a good rate. I am pretty happy with the Lee trade, and I expect Rivera and Mathis to pick up their production rate next season for us. I am hoping to maybe make a few changes in this area of the team, for a defensive benefit and maybe a batting average/stolen base benefit. One thing I am always going to be sure to have in a play is a guy who is going to get on base at a good rate. I am not a full fledged money baller, like Billy Beane of the A's is (i.e. no stolen bases allowed, can K a lot, etc.), but I do like to have some power hitters on the team, and I think we definitely have plenty of that in our nucleus of players. I see Weeks serving as a capable lead-off hitter for a while, Aybar will probably move into the two hole, Fielder will bat third, and from there we will have to see where we put guys. I may also put Gwynn Jr. in the two-hole to see how he does there against righties or something like that. I am looking forward to seeing what Juan Rivera can do for us in a full season, but we do have quite a few outfielders that could start, in Hart, Jenkins, Gwynn, Rivera, and Figgins (if he is out there again next season).
