2011 Season in Review
1/1/2012

Uncasville- 2011 was a season of firsts, while 2012 will be a season of lasts.
This past season saw the first post-season series between a team from the United States and a team from outside the U.S. in Canada. In the Second League Championship, the Honolulu Islanders beat the Caracas Leones in seven games.
We also saw the San Diego Padres win their first ever World Series, defeating the New York Yankees in an exciting seven game series. The Padres, led by Will Nelson and Miguel Cabrera, brought a lot of excitement to the San Diego area.
2012 will be the last season of the Major League as we know it. Beginning in 2013 there will be two 8-team leagues, the American League, made up of current ML teams, and the World League, which will consist of current 2L teams in the World League. Underneath the Major League will be the Second League and the new Third League. Winners of each league will move up, replacing the last place team in each league.
2012 will also be the final season of the minor leagues. In the future, teams will have reserve rosters, whose players will be eligible to play at any time. While there are many concerns over player development, reserve roster players will continue to play at the Spring Training camps against other teams. The reason for the consolidation of the minor leagues is to allow more cities to have their own franchises.
In 2012 there will be 10 new World League teams, playing in the Second League: Guadalajara (Mexico) Stones, Monterrey (Mexico) Sultanes, Sydney (Australia) Wave, Taipei Typhoons, Osaka (Japan) Buffaloes, Fukuoka (Japan) Hawks, Johannesburg (South Africa) Gold Rush, Mumbai (India) Monsoon, Istanbul Blues and Montreal Expos.
The 2nd Baseball World Cup will also be held this February, with games being played in Miami, Toronto, Tokyo and Caracas, Venezuela.
