October 2008 - Milwaukee Brewers
Manager and GM Fritsche 2nd October 2008 Guess the Braves were the hardest opponent we could get. I also miscalculated that we could lose home field advantage to them. On the other hand we had them as well in the first round last season. We beat them 3 games 1, winning three games in Atlanta. Every Braves starter tonight had at least 10 homers during the regular season. Game #163 –Milwaukee [0-0] (B. Webb 8-7, 3.56 ERA) at Atlanta [0-0] (M. Harrison 12-10, 4.13 ERA) 2B C. Izturis - RF S. Victorino - LF R. Braun - 1B P. Fielder - CF J. Upton - 3B M. Reynolds - SS A. Escobar - C H. Blanco The game started as I feared when Francoeur hit one out of the ballpark in the second. But our usually light hitting catcher Blanco started a rally in the fifth during which we scored six runs on seven hits. But things became once again close in sixth when Webb suddenly couldn't throw strikes anymore. But it looks like I made the right decisions in the bullpen as they finished the game on a very positive note. Milwaukee at Atlanta: 8-6 W: B. Webb (1-0); L: M. Harrison (0-1) H: M. Stetter (1), B. Shouse (1), J. Accardo (1) SV: S. Fujita (1) HR: H. Blanco (1) / J. Francoeur (1) SB: C. Izturis (1) / - CS: - / - E: M. Gamel (1) / C. Jones (1), B. Lillibridge (1) MoM: H. Blanco - 3/4, 2 R, HR, 1 RBI Milwaukee leads series, 1 to 0. Elsewhere: Boston at Los Angeles: 5-2 W: J. Beckett (1-0), L: K. Escobar (0-1) SV: J. Papelbon (1) HR: J. Natale (1) / J. Rivera Boston leads series, 1 to 0. Cleveland at Tampa Bay: 1-5 W: S. Kazmir (1-0); L: C. Lofgren (0-1) SV: J. Coutlangus (1) HR: V. Martinez (1) / D. Young (1) Tampa Bay leads series, 1 to 0. Los Angeles at New York: 1-2 W: D. Guerra (1-0); J. McDonald (0-1) SV: B. Wagner (1) HR: - / J. Reyes (1) New York leads series, 1 to 0. The White Sox closer Bobby Jenks signed a new two year contract worth $5,980,000. |

October 2008 - Milwaukee Brewers
Manager and GM Fritsche 3rd October 2008 Last year we also won game two at Turner Field. To achieve that we need more production from the heart of our lineup. Yesterdays victory was mostly Izturis and Blanco. David Bush will be todays pitcher. He was 3-0 in last years playoffs. No idea why the Braves didn't start Thompson whose ERA is three runs lower than Lerew's today. Game #164 –Milwaukee [1-0] (D. Bush 18-8, 3.10 ERA) at Atlanta [0-1] (A. Lerew 6-10, 6.45 ERA) SS C. Izturis - RF G. Gross - LF R. Braun - 1B P. Fielder - C J. Estrada - CF J. Upton - 3B M. Reynolds - 2B O. Infante The first six innings were just peanuts, but things became interesting when the Braves hit two homers off Bush giving them a 5-3 lead. In the ninth we tried a comeback and nobody knows why the Braves brought their closer AFTER the save was already blown. We managed to bat around and scored totally four runs. Fujita was usually rock solid in the bottom of the inning to collect his second save in as many tries. Cesar Izturis went five from five meaning he is eight from eight in the playoffs so far. Milwaukee at Atlanta: 7-5 W: J. Accardo (1-0); L: E. Ramirez (0-1) H: - / R. Soriano (1), T. Hodges (1), C. James (1) BS: E. Ramirez (1) SV: S. Fujita (2) HR: R. Braun (1) / J. Saltalamacchia (1), K. Johnson (1), B. Lillibridge (1) SB: J. Upton (1) / - CS: C. Izturis (1) / - E: E. Dessens (1) / - MoM: J. Saltalamacchia - 3/5, 1 R, HR, 3 RBI Milwaukee leads series, 2 to 0. Elsewhere: Boston at Los Angeles: 6-4 W: J. Lester (1-0), L: S. Baker (0-1) SV: J. Papelbon (2) HR: D. Ortiz (1) / M. Collins (1) Boston leads series, 2 to 0. Cleveland at Tampa Bay: 2-1 W: A. Miller (1-0); L: J. Hammel (0-1) SV: R. Betancourt (1) HR: R. Branyan (1), T. Hafner (1) / R. Baldelli (1) Series tied at 1. Devil Rays LF Carl Crawford (.321, 21 HR, 104 RBI) will miss at least two weeks with a bruised wrist. Los Angeles at New York: 4-5 W: J. Smith (1-0); T. Sipp (0-1) SV: B. Wagner (2) HR: - / - New York leads series, 2 to 0. |

October 2008 - Milwaukee Brewers
Manager and GM Fritsche 5th October 2008 I hope the parallels with last season end today and we will end the Braves season at Miller Park tonight. Our bullpen is still rather tired as almost everybody was used in the first two games. Game #165 –Atlanta [0-2] (P. Maholm 8-3, 3.72 ERA) at Milwaukee [2-0] (C. Capuano 18-7, 4.08 ERA) 2B C. Izturis - RF S. Victorino - LF R. Braun - 1B P. Fielder - CF J. Upton - 3B M. Reynolds - SS A. Escobar - C H. Blanco The game was a real playoff pitchers duel until the Atlanta manager made the mistake off lifting his starter too late. This gave us a chance to bring runners on base and Naughty Chow Fielder hit one out of the park giving us a five run lead. Capuano kept the Braves power bats in check and recorded a complete game. This sweep brings us to the second round of the playoffs. Atlanta at Milwaukee: 1-6 W: C. Capuano (1-0); L: P. Maholm (0-1) HR: - / P. Fielder (1) SB: - / - CS: - / - E: B. Lillibridge (1) / P. Fielder (1), A. Escobar (1) MoM: C. Capuano - 1/3, 1 R, 1 RBI - 9.0 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K Milwaukee sweeps series, 3 to 0. Elsewhere: Los Angeles at Boston: 7-1 W: J. Lackey (1-0), L: D. Matsuzaka (0-1) HR: - / D. Ortiz (2) Boston leads series, 2 to 1. Tampa Bay at Cleveland: 4-1 W: J. Howell (1-0); L: C. Sabathia (0-1) SV: C. Ray (1) HR: - / T. Hafner (2) Tampa Bay leads series, 2 to 1. Devil Rays LF Carl Crawford (.321, 21 HR, 104 RBI) will miss at least two weeks with a bruised wrist. New York at Los Angeles: 6-5 W: J. Maine (1-0); A. Reyes (0-1) SV: B. Wagner (3) HR: M. Barrett (1), C. Delgado / - New York sweeps series, 3 to 0.

October 2008 - Milwaukee Brewers
Manager and GM Fritsche 10th October 2008 Braves reliever Rafael Soriano (9-0-7, 3.10 ERA) signed a new 3 year contract worth $4,490,000. 2B Robinson Cano (.313, 23 HR, 97 RBI) will be in Yankee jersey for 2 more years. He will earn $18,920,00 in that period. We kick of the NL Championship Series against the Mets in Shea Stadium. We won the regular season series 5 games to 4. The Mets own the far best pitching staff and bullpen of the National League. Game #166 – Milwaukee [3-0] (B. Webb 1-0, 8.10 ERA) at New York [3-0] (J. Maine 1-0, 5.87 ERA) 2B C. Izturis - RF G. Gross - LF R. Braun - 1B P. Fielder - C J. Estrada - CF J. Upton - 3B M. Reynolds - 2B O. Infante A pretty and worthy playoff battle where nobody knew who'd leave the game as winners. A Gabe Gross homer gave us an early 2-1 lead. But Lastings Milledge countered after Braun fumbled the inning ending flyball. We tied the game once more in the seventh, but a Fielder error allowed the Mets to score the go ahead run. Their bullpen was just perfect to finish the game. Milwaukee at New York: 4-5 W: R. Mahay (1-0); L: B. Webb (1-1) H: P. Feliciano (1), B. League (2) BS: R. Mahay (1) SV: B. Wagner (4) HR: G. Gross (1) / L. Milledge (1) SB: - / - CS: - / M. Barrett (1) E: R. Braun, P. Fielder / - MoM: G. Gross - 2/4, 1 R, HR, 3 RBI New York leads series, 1 to 0. Elsewhere: Boston at Tampa Bay: 11-9 W: D. Matsuzaka (1-1), L: S. Kazmir (1-1) SV: J. Papelbon (4) HR: J. Drew (1), W. Pena (1), C. Crisp (1), J. Natale (3), G. Kottaras (1) / B. Upton (1) Boston leads series, 1 to 0. |

October 2008 - Milwaukee Brewers
Manager and GM Fritsche 11th October 2008 Wouldn't be good to lose game 2 as well. Hopefully Bush can stay unbeaten in his sixth career playoff start. Game #167 – Milwaukee [3-1] (D. Bush 0-0, 7.11 ERA) at New York [4-0] (P. Humber 0-0, 1.50 ERA) SS C. Izturis - RF G. Gross - LF R. Braun - 1B P. Fielder - C J. Estrada - CF J. Upton - 3B M. Reynolds - 2B O. Infante This was a really worthy playoffgame with two very dominant pitchers. We took a 1-0 lead in the fourth, which the Mets tied in the seventh. They had a good chance to win it in the ninth, when the were caught stealing third with no outs. When Bush left the game after nine full innings, troubles began. We couldn't bring home pinch runner Cain. The Mets did much better with their pinchhitter Carp and took therefore a 2-0 lead. Milwaukee at New York: 1-2 (10) W: D. Sanchez (1-0); L: B. Shouse (0-1) HR: - / C. Gomez (1) SB: L. Cain (1) / J. Reyes (1), C. Gomez (1) CS: P. Fielder (1) / J. Reyes (1) E: D. Bush, J. Estrada / - MoM: D. Bush - 9.0 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, O BB, 1 K New York leads series, 2 to 0. Elsewhere: Boston at Tampa Bay: 7-4 W: J. Beckett (3-0), L: J. Howell (1-1) SV: J. Papelbon (5) HR: J. Drew (2), J. Natale (4) / T. Wiggington (1), R. Baldelli (3) Boston leads series, 2 to 0. We demote Elmer Dessens to AAA, because Aaron Cook refuses getting demoted. |

October 2008 - Milwaukee Brewers
Manager and GM Fritsche 13th October 2008 This is a must win game. I'm quite sure we won't overcome a three game deficit against the Mets superiour pitching. Hopefully Capuano can deliver on the mound and behind the plate. The Mets will also send a lefty to the mound, which means Blanco gets the start. Good to control their running game. Game #166 –New York [5-0] (W. Collazo 0-0, 0.00 ERA) at Milwaukee [3-2] (C. Capuano 1-0, 1.00 ERA) 2B C. Izturis - CF J. Upton - LF R. Braun - 1B P. Fielder - 3B M. Reynolds - RF L. Cain - SS A. Escobar - C H. Blanco A very wild one which saw us already close to ellimination. Braun had a great day at the plate, but his homers just managed to tie the game at 4. We gave the bullpen nevertheless a 6-4, but closer Fujita blew the save. Mets closer Wagner took the mound in the bottom of the night, loaded the bases with no outs, but pitched out of trouble. With two outs he had a full count on pinch hitter Gabe Gross who just stood there to take ball four giving us the walk off victory. The Mets suffered another blow when they learnt that 3B Wright is out for two weeks. Currently they have no other player on the playoff roster who can play 3B New York at Milwaukee: 6-7 W: S. Fujita (1-0); L: B. Wagner (0-1) H: J. Accardo (2) BS: S. Fujita (1) HR: D. Wright (1), P. Lo Duca (1) / R. Braun 2 (3) SB: - / - CS: - / - E: B. Wagner / C. Capuano MoM: R. Braun - 2/3, 2 R, 2 HR, 3 RBI, 3 BB New York leads series, 2 to 1. Elsewhere: Tampa Bay at Boston: 4-3 W: J. Shields (1-0), L: J. Lester (1-1) SV: C. Ray (3) HR: D. Young (2) / - Boston leads series, 2 to 1. The Mets placed Wright on the DL. Fernando Tatis (.250, 0 HR, 2 RBI) takes his spot.

October 2008 - Milwaukee Brewers
Manager and GM Fritsche 14th October 2008 I decide to give Gallardo the start even if he didn't start this postseason yet. Webb isn't 100 % rested and didn't pitch that well recently. So hopefully Gallardo, whohad an 1.74 ERA in september, can get the job done. The Mets are in the same situation, but decide to start NL Cy Young winner Maine. Game #167 – New York [5-1] (J. Maine 1-0, 5.65 ERA) at Milwaukee [4-2] (Y. Gallardo 0-0, 0.00 ERA) SS C. Izturis - RF G. Gross - LF R. Braun - 1B P. Fielder - C J. Estrada - CF J. Upton - 3B M. Reynolds - 2B O. Infante Gallardo had a shaky start by giving up a lead off triple, but limited the Mets eventually to only five hits in seven innings. They produced nevertheless four runs and we had to get a rally started. But sadly we only managed one more run in the seventh. So the Mets need only one more win to advance to the world series. New York at Milwaukee: 4-3 W: J. Maine (2-0); L: Y. Gallardo (0-1) H: D. Sanchez (1), B. League (3), P. Feliciano (2), J. Smith (1) SV: B. Wagner (5) HR: - / - SB: - / - CS: - / - E: - / Y. Gallardo MoM: J. Maine - 6.0 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K New York leads series, 3 to 1. Elsewhere: Tampa Bay at Boston: 4-5 W: C. Buchholz (1-0), L: J. Shiels (1-1) SV: J. Papelbon (6) HR: E. Longoria (1) / W. Pena (2), C. Crisp (2), D. Pedroia (1) Boston leads series, 3 to 1. |

October 2008 - Milwaukee Brewers
Manager and GM Fritsche 15th October 2008 We are now at the point of no return, one more loss and the season is over. We never faced this point during last seasons road to the World Series. Of course Webb, Bush and Capuano are capable of giving us three good starts in a row, but will the bullpen have three good days in a row as well? The Mets pitching seems from another planet: when their starter struggles, they still have the best bullpen in the game. Game #168 – New York [6-1] (D. Guerra 1-0, 1.13 ERA) at Milwaukee [4-3] (B. Webb 1-1, 5.93 ERA) 2B C. Izturis - RF G. Gross - LF R. Braun - 1B P. Fielder - CF J. Upton - C J. Estrada - 3B M. Reynolds - SS A. Escobar The game started as another one dominated by pitching. We took nevertheless a 2-0 thanks to a Fielder RBI double in the third. So all we needed was to protect the lead until the end. The Mets were stroke by bad luck when also their replacement 3B Tatis was injured and Carp with no previous 3B experience had to finish the game. Carp commited an error on his first chance allowing us to take a 3-1 lead after four innings. Webb worked hard but struggled finding the strike zone. He had five walks after five innings, but got some help by Estrada and a couple of double plays. We kept on scoring against 19 year old Guerra making it 5-1 after six innings. After Carp threw another ball away the score was 7-1 and Webb handed the game to the bullpen. Eventually the bullpen did fine and defensive replacement Cain added two more runs. Curious to see what the Mets do with 3B after this game. New York at Milwaukee: 1-9 W: B. Webb (2-1); L: D. Guerra (1-1) HR: - / J. Upton (1) SB: O. Hudson (1) / - CS: J. Reyes (2) / - E: M. Carp 2 / - MoM: B. Webb - 7.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 5 BB, 1 K New York leads series, 3 to 2. Elsewhere: Tampa Bay at Boston: 14-8 (10) W: C. Ray (1-1), L: H. Okajima (0-1) HR: - / K. Youkilis (1) Boston leads series, 3 to 2. Okajima and Papelbon suffered an epic meltdown in the top of the tenth, allowing seven hits, walking two and getting only one out. The Mets also placed Tatis on the DL. Ruben Gotay (.283, 1 HR, 7 RBI) who played only 15 games in his career at 3B gets the call. We will never know why Shawn Bowman (.255, 1 HR, 12 RBI - AAA) didn't get promotod. At least the can play 3B. Maybe Bud Black didn't want to send a Canadian to the World Series? |

October 2008 - Milwaukee Brewers
Manager and GM Fritsche 17th October 2008 Back to New York where the National League champion will be crowned one way or another. Bush will try to stay unbeaten also in his seventh career playoff start. We will also rely on the hot bats of Izturis, Upton and Gross who all do very well so far in the playoffs. Game #169 –Milwaukee [5-3] (D. Bush 0-0, 3.52 ERA) at New York [6-2] (P. Humber 0-0, 1.26 ERA) 2B C. Izturis - RF G. Gross - LF R. Braun - 1B P. Fielder - CF J. Upton - C J. Estrada - 3B M. Reynolds - SS A. Escobar We set the tone in the first inning when we scored four runs on six hits and two walks. The Mets were never able to recover as our offense really ran hot. Moving Gross to bat 2nd and Upton to 5th in the order seems to work. Upton leads the club in playoff RBI's now. Mets 3B Gotay commited an error - of course. Tomorrow Game 7! Milwaukee at New York: 8-2 W: D. Bush (1-0); L: P. Humber (0-1) HR: - / O. Hudson (1) SB: A. Escobar (1) / - CS: - / - E: D. Bush / R. Gotay MoM: J. Upton - 2/5, 1 R, 3 RBI Series tied at 3. Elsewhere: Boston at Tampa Bay: 7-3 W: J. Beckett (4-0), L: J. Hellickson (0-1) HR: - / E. Longoria (2) Boston wins series, 4 to 2 and advances to 2008 World Series.

October 2008 - Milwaukee Brewers
Manager and GM Fritsche 18th October 2008 It's time to play ball and decide who will face the Red Sox in the World Series. We have the momentum on our side after the Mets failed to eliminate us twice. Sadly our starter Capuano is not 100 % rested, but I feel it's better to start him compared to Gallardo or Villanueva. The Mets will once again send Maine to the battle. He isn't 100 % rested either... In terms of offense we stick to the old Badenian football saying "never change a winning team"! Game #170 –Milwaukee [6-3] (C. Capuano 1-0, 2.81 ERA) at New York [6-3] (J. Maine 2-0, 4.87 ERA) 2B C. Izturis - RF G. Gross - LF R. Braun - 1B P. Fielder - CF J. Upton - C J. Estrada - 3B M. Reynolds - SS A. Escobar Game 7 was epic. We took an early 3-0 lead thanks to a Fielder homerun. But the Mets quickly mashed Capuano and were up 7-4 after three innings. Maine seemed to cruise to victory, but Fielder hit another homer in the eighth making it 8-6 for the Mets. Wagner came on to close it out and our hopes to tie the game were small, until Izturis hit a two out triple to make it 8-7. Hopes were high as Gross who hit .364 in the postseason came to the plate, but he went down looking ... Mets advance to the World Series 2008. Milwaukee at New York: 7-8 W: J. Maine (3-0); L: C. Capuano (1-1) H: J. Smith (2), B. League (4) SV: B. Wagner (6) HR: P. Fielder 2 (3) / M. Carp (1), R. Gotay (1), L. Milledge (2) SB: - / R. Gotay (1), O. Hudson (2), C. Gomez (2) CS: - / L. Milledge (1), C. Gomez (1) E: M. Reynolds / - MoM: P. Fielder - 2/5, 2 R, 2 HR, 5 RBI New York wins series, 4 games to 3. |
