5th May 2009

What a series against the Dodgers! Game 1 and 3 were impressive comeback wins when starting pitchers struggled. We are now 6-0 against the Dodgers, who are 12-8 against the rest of the league. The only offensive problems are now Gross (who draws a lot of walks, and delivers a key hit once in a while) and Reynolds, who is battling the Mendoza line since becoming a Brewer last year. We also will have to make a roster move when last years closer Fujita comes off the DL in a couple of days. We travel to New York to face the Mets who ended our season last year. They are not doing well so far, but we will see a familiar face at Citi Field: Geoff Jenkins is a Met now after not playing in 2008.

Injury Report:

Milwaukee
- CL S. Fujita (1 day)
- 2B R. Weeks (2-3 weeks)

New York
- SS T. Abreu (1 day - DTD)

Game #25 – Milwaukee [16-8] (B. Webb 3-2, 2.77 ERA) at New York [13-12] (D. Guerra 1-3, 5.13 ERA)

SS C. Izturis - 2B O. Hudson - LF R. Braun - 1B P. Fielder - CF J. Upton - RF G. Gross - 3B M. Lowell - C J. Estrada

Milwaukee at New York: 5-6

H: D. Romero (4)
BS: E. Gagné (1)
HR: J. Estrada (1) / T. Hafner (7)
SB: R. Braun (2) / J. Reyes (10)
E: - / M. Barrett (3)
MoM: T. Hafner - 3/4, 1 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI

Time: 2:55
Attendance: 44704

Elsewhere:

The Diamondbacks lost RF Carlos Gonzalez (.349, 7 HR, 21 RBI) for up to four weeks with a tender ulnar collateral ligament.

The Tigers re-signed reliever Fernando Rodney (0-0-1, 4.15 ERA) to a three year $10,020,000 contract.

Roster Move:

Closer Soichi Fujita was taken off the DL today. We sent lefty reliever Christopher Armstrong (0-0-0, 6.75 ERA) back to AAA Nashville.

The Diamondbacks signed pitcher Oliver Perez (1-0, 4.76 ERA) to a two year contract worth $11,920,000.

Ouch! The Mets kicked once again our ass. Two of the losses were only by one run, which came very late in the game. In the other loss Rosario gave up nine runs in the first two innings. Now we are off to Philadelphia, where we expect solid starts by Gallardo and Capuano. Hopefully Aaron Cook will have a good first start as well. At the moment we carry two closers, but if Fujita is as dominant as last season, Gagné might get another role. At the moment six (!) AAA Nashville regulars are batting well over .300. Some roster moves are therefore likely to come.

Home again to face the Cardinals before heading to Inter League play next week. Even if we won the series against the Cubs we still trail Houston by 3,5 games. The Cardinals are only another 0,5 games behind us. Our pitching became more unstable recently and Aaron Cook had a horrible first start. Offense is doing ok mostly, but C, 2B and RF are not very productive so far this month.
