The first sweep of the season against Mets was a painful one, especially when you keep in mind that this could easily have been the 1st playoff round. A team that owns the leagues best offense. After the break we are playing below .500. Next up the Pirates, a team we usually control.

5th September 2011

Our level AA team, the Huntsville Stars finished their season with a 80-60 record. A record good enough to win the Northern Division by a game over West Tennessee. The team pitched well (3.48 ERA, 3rd), but struggled a bit offensively (.255).

An overview over Huntsville's best performers
:

MR Patrick Ryan (2-2-7, 2.32 ERA, 0.98 WHIP)
SP Carlos Rivas (12-10, 3.33 ERA, 1.05 WHIP)

SP Alejandro Mendoza (14-5, 2.86 ERA, 1.16 WHIP) - 2nd round pick in 2007

SS Kevin King (.331, 3 HR, 32 RBI, 7 SB) - 14th round pick in 2007 by Dodgers
3B Yoshiyuki Ishida (.281, 6 HR, 24 RBI, 7 SB) - 18th round pick in 2007

The Stars will face the Montgomery Biscuits (88-52) in the playoffs.

Our advanced level A team, the Brevard County Manatees finished their season with a 91-49 record. They won their fourth Eastern Division title in a row easily. Their pitching (3.31 ERA, 1st) was the key to success, while the offense was rather average (.259, 7th).

An overview over Brevard Counties best performers
:

SP/MR Evan Anundsen (6-2-2, 1.66 ERA, 0.95 WHIP)
SP Cedric Smith (7-5, 2.76 ERA, 1.19 WHIP)
- 25th round pick in 2008
SP José Martínez (15-4, 2.82 ERA, 1.19 WHIP) - 17nd round pick in 2009 by Kansas City

5th September 2011

Our recent struggles cut our lead to 13 games. Normally such a lead should be more than enough to win the division, but if you saw our recent performances, you shouldn't take anything for granted. Four games against the homerun loving Cubs, while our pitchers are on a cold streak alltogether is not good news either.

Our lower level A team, the West Virginia Power finished their season with an unbelievable 31-109 record. They were only 26 games behind the next worst team. Their pitching (4.69 ERA, 15th) was next to last, while the offense was simply a joke (.229, 16th).

Some players managed some half decent performances nevertheless
:

CL Quiang Yi (1-2-17, 2.38 ERA, 0.85 WHIP) - 8th round pick in 2010
SP Cedric Smith (4-4, 3.00 ERA, 1.26 WHIP)
- 25th round pick in 2008
MR Yonny Chaya (0-1, 2.85 ERA, 1.37 WHIP)
3B Bob Watts (.255, 6 HR, 48 RBI, 3 SB) - undrafted minor league free agent (2010)
