September 2011 - Milwaukee Brewers
Manager and GM Fritsche

26th September 2011

American League Player of the Week:
SS Sean Rodriguez (.455, 5 HR, 12 RBI - Los Angeles) - .294, 42 HR, 111 RBI

National League Player of the Week:
RF Colby Rasmus (.424, 5 HR, 13 RBI - St. Louis) - .303, 35 HR, 99 RBI

Up next are the Reds, and they are in a must win situation if they wanna catch the Mets for the Wild Card. Of course for me it would be nice to see the Reds out of the race as we had some ugly defeats against them during regular season. Especially their pitching matches our one to one. The rest of the league with the exception of both Central division is still caught up in intense playoff battles.

And once again it's the final series of the regular season far north at Buffalo. Both teams have not much to play for; Prince Fielder should be able to hold on his RBI lead and Brandon Webb could theoretically pass Shimizu as league win leader. But maybe I skip his start to rest him for the playoffs. I guess Webb, Bush and Snell (who would have thought that earlier in the season) are save bets for the playoff rotation. Parra, Villanueva and Hill battle for the final spot.
Fans are looking forward to some great division battles: Baltimore and Washington are tied (Boston needs a miracle to intervene); the same goes for Los Angeles and Seattle. The loser of the 2nd race will very likely collect the wild card. The Marlins lead the Mets by 3.5 games, but both teams are playoffbound, while the Dodgers and Diamondbacks are seperated by 0.5 games. The Tigers still can lose 100, while we might break our 2009 franchise record with 105 wins.

October 2011 - Milwaukee Brewers
Manager and GM Fritsche

5th October 2011

Playoff time! But as mentioned above we got the least pleasant opponent with the Mets. They are a very mighty offensive team, and it has to be seen if our pitching is ready to face the challenge. Luckily they will be without key performers Wright and Furcal, and we might not face their toppitchers before game 3.

Injury Report:

Milwaukee

n/a

New York

SP S. Hill (5-6 months)
3B D. Wright (7 months)
SS R. Furcal (3-4 weeks)

Game # 163 – New York [0-0] (P. Humber 12-12, 4.16 ERA) at Milwaukee [0-0] (D. Bush 16-7, 3.53 ERA)

SS Orlando Hudson (.242, 4 HR, 36 RBI, 15 SB)

New York at Milwaukee: 12-7

W: A. Burgos (1-0); L: D. Bush (0-1)
HR: M. Barrett (1), T. Hafner 2 (2), L. Milledge (1) / M. Gamel (1), R. Weeks (1)
SB: J. Reyes (1), L. Milledge (1), R. Price (1) / J. Upton (1)

MoM: T. Hafner - 3/3, 3 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 2 BB

Time: 3:29

The game went exactly the way I feared. After four innings we trailed 9-6 and it was clear who would fare better in a slugfest. Bush picked a bad moment for his worst outing of the season.

New York leads series, 1 to 0.

6th October 2011

Game # 164 – New York [1-0] (K. Sleeth 9-6, 5.15 ERA) at Milwaukee [0-1] (B. Webb 20-4, 3.17 ERA)

New York:

2B J. Reyes - LF C. Haerther - CF L. Milledge - 1B T. Hafner - RF J. Dye - C M. Barrett - SS A. Hernandez - 3B D. Murphy

Milwaukee:

CF J. Upton - 3B M. Gamel - LF R. Braun - 1B P. Fielder - 2B R. Weeks - RF B. Clevlen - C A. Cuarenta - SS O. Hudson

New York at Milwaukee: 12-1

W: K. Sleeth (1-0); L: B. Webb (0-1)
HR: J. Dye (1), T. Hafner 2 (4) / J. Upton (1)
CS: L. Milledge (1) / -
E: A. Hernandez / B. Webb
MoM: T. Hafner - 2/2, 5 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 3 BB

Time: 3:14
Attendance: 45048

And also Webb had his worst outing of the season. We managed absolutely nothing against a very average Kyle Sleeth. Travis Wagner is 5 from 5 in the series, with 5 walks, 4 HR and 8 RBI's. The fans booed me and the team out of the town, and we need a miracle to advance to next round. The 105-win season is already forgotten.

New York leads series, 2 to 0.

Elsewhere:

Los Angeles at Florida: 3-4

W: T. Tankersley (1-0); L: K. Fujikawa (0-1)
HR: F. Diaz (1) / -

Florida leads series, 2 to 0.

Washington at Los Angeles: 6-7 (10)

W: S. Shields (1-0); L: B. Traber (0-1)
HR: J. Estrada (1), C. Duncan (1) / -

The Angels CF Gary Matthews (.277, 12 HR, 47 RBI, 14 SB) will miss two weeks with a cuncussion.

Los Angeles leads series, 2 to 0.

Seattle at Kansas City: 8-2

W: M. Prior (1-0); L: O. Perez (0-1)
HR: - / K. Melillo (1)

Seattle leads series, 2 to 0.

There are rumours that there would be another expansion before next season. League is believed to think that 36 teams would be a bitter fit that 34. Even if none of the former expansion teams made the playoffs; three of them did better than some of the old boys. The league is especially happy with the attendance numbers in Vancouver and Boise, which might indicate an future expansion in other "black" baseball holes. Let's wait and see what happens.

Game # 165 – Milwaukee [0-2] (B. Webb 20-4, 3.17 ERA) at New York [2-0] (U. Jimenez 18-5, 3.08 ERA)

New York:

2B J. Reyes - LF C. Haerther - CF L. Milledge - 1B T. Hafner - RF J. Dye - C M. Barrett - SS A. Hernandez - 3B D. Murphy

Milwaukee:

CF J. Upton - 3B M. Gamel - LF R. Braun - 1B P. Fielder - 2B R. Weeks - RF B. Clevlen - C K. Johjima - SS O. Hudson

Milwaukee at New York: 1-5

W: U. Jimenez (1-0); L: I. Snell (0-1)
H: A. Burgos (1)
SV: B. Wagner (1)
HR: - / T. Hafner (5)
MoM: U. Jimenez - 7.0 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K
Time: 2:29
Attendance: 45838

Now I finally know how you Cubs fans feel in real life. Three games and you are out! Ian Snell did well, but after we gave up three more runs in the 8th our season was virtually over. Travis Wagner hit his 5th homerun in this series and we had not the slightest chance to advance.

New York wins series, 3 to 0.

Elsewhere:

Florida at Los Angeles: 7-3

W: G. Perkins (1-0); L: A. Reyes (0-1)
HR: M. Cabrera (1), M. Jacobs 2 (2) / J. Bell (1)

Florida wins series, 3 to 0.

Los Angeles at Washington: 6-8

W: R. Wolf (1-0); L: S. Shields (1-1)
HR: - / J. Rodriguez (1), K. Casto (1)

Los Angeles leads series, 2 to 1.

Kansas City at Seattle: 5-6

W: G. Sherrill (1-0); L: H. Iwase (0-1)
HR: A. Gordon (1), B. Anderson (1) / O. Navarro (1)

Seattle wins series, 3 to 0.

So both teams that won their divisions by a landslide are out of the playoffs already.
