June 2012 - Winnipeg Bisons
Manager and GM Fritsche 10th June 2012 A nice split series against the Cardinals and things looking great two months into the season. Curious to see how we do without our mighty SS Harrington. Thankfully the next opponent seems not to be so mighty at the moment. The Rockies are among the worst in the league, and project to give three guys with a +5.00 ERA a start against us. Injury Report: Winnipeg: MR H. Martínez (7 months) 2B B. Upton (4 weeks) SS J. Harrington (1 week) Colorado: SP K. Fox (7-8 months) LF R. Langerhans (5 days) Game # 59 – Colorado [23-35] (C-L. Lo 0-1, 15.51 ERA, 16 BB, 9 K, 2.94 WHIP) at Winnipeg [35-23] (J. Marceaux 7-3, 3.46 ERA, 27 BB, 56 K, 1.31 WHIP) Winnipeg: CF Jeremy Reed (.234, 3 HR, 13 RBI, 5 SB) 3B Chris Davis (.302, 8 HR, 27 RBI) SS Sharlon Schoop (.324, 3 HR, 20 RBI) LF John Rodriguez (.275, 9 HR, 29 RBI, 2 SB) 1B Eric Duncan (.267, 6 HR, 11 RBI) C Josh Bard (.275, 6 HR, 20 RBI) RF Hiram Bocachica (.250, 3 HR, 9 RBI, 2 SB) 2B Alberto Gonzalez (.265, 0 HR, 6 RBI) Colorado: CF José Gonzáles (.216, 3 HR, 12 RBI, 1 SB) - rookie 2B Len Boyer (.271, 2 HR, 15 RBI) - rookie LF Matt Holliday (.239, 2 HR, 14 RBI, 1 SB) 1B Chad Tracy (.238, 6 HR, 22 RBI, 3 SB) SS Daniel Mayora (.282, 9 HR, 35 RBI) 3B Ian Stewart (.267, 12 HR, 44 RBI, 2 SB) RF Chris Snelling (.250, 5 HR, 16 RBI, 1 SB) C Mike Napoli (.259, 7 HR, 21 RBI) Colorado at Winnipeg: 11-3 W: C. Snelling - 4/5, 2 R, 2 HR, 5 RBI Time: 2:55 Attendance: 42410 Elsewhere: The Cubs ace Sean Gallagher (4-4, 1.85 ERA) pitched a 4-hit shutout against Florida. Nevertheless they loom only at a 27-32 record. CF Johnny Damon (.293, 7 HR, 32 RBI) member of the Yankees old-boys quintet had 5 hits in a 18-10 loss against Houston. The Indians 2B Robinson Ramírez (.364, 1 HR, 4 RBI) had 5 hit in 12-3 over Indianapolis. American League Player of the Week: SS Joaquin Arias - Texas: .471, 3 HR, 7 RBI (.351, 4 HR, 18 RBI) National League Player of the Week: CF Ryan Patterson - San Francisco: .516, 3 HR, 11 RBI (.316, 13 HR, 49 RBI) Trade: Boston sent 3B Brandon Phillips (.347, 2 HR, 11 RBI) and minor league 1B Carlos Barrón (.205, 0 HR, 7 RBI - AAA) to the Giants for 1B James Loney (.286, 11 HR, 40 RBI, 1 SB).

June 2012 - Winnipeg Bisons
Manager and GM Fritsche 12th June 2012 Game # 61 – Colorado [24-36] (S. Thompson 0-0-1, 5.30 ERA, 8 BB, 13 K, 1.66 WHIP) at Winnipeg [36-24] (T. Gorzelanny 5-4, 5.00 ERA, 30 BB, 59 K, 1.44 WHIP) SS Alberto Gonzalez - RF Jayson Werth - 3B Sharlon Schoop - 1B Kendry Morales - C Josh Bard - CF Nate McLouth - LF Hiram Bocachica - 2B Billy Grant Colorado at Winnipeg: 8-1 W: S. Thompson (1-0); L: T. Gorzelanny (5-5) H: F. Rodney (2) HR: C. Tracy (7), D. Mayora (10) / - E: L. Boyer (11) / N. McLouth (1) PoG: D. Mayora - 2/5, 2 R, HR, 1 RBI Time: 2:55 Attendance: 41945 Gorzelanny continues to struggle and he still has two years left on his contract. Maybe we should give him some time at AAA? Rleal sucked as well and at the moment the bullpen is another big questionmark. Elsewhere: Marmots CF Daryl Jones (.262, 3 HR, 25 RBI) is out for the season with a torn back muscle. The Twins CF Joe Benson (.273, 10 HR, 29 RBI) had a 5-hit game in a 16-2 win over Baltimore. The Diamondbacks LF Carlos Quentin (.304, 13 HR, 36 RBI) did the same in 12-3 win over Buffalo. |

Manager and GM Fritsche 13th June 2012 Game # 62 – Colorado [25-36] (F. Rodney 2-1, 5.73 ERA, 13 BB, 16 K, 1.79 WHIP) at Winnipeg [36-25] (B. Grant - 2/2, 3 R, 2 RBI Time: 3:04 Attendance: 41988 Crazy game in which the injury-ridled Rockies only used relievers, including 5 2/3 innings by closer Corpas. Sadly we lost our high flying IF Sharlon Schoop (.318, 3 HR, 20 RBI) for eight weeks with a torn thigh muscle. 3B Tripper Johnson (.310, 7 HR, 33 RBI, 1 SB - AAA) will get the call for the big leagues. Elsewhere: The Cubs 2B Alfonso Soriano (.254, 15 HR, 44 RBI), who is still on that crazy $144,000,000 contract from 2007, hit his 400th career home run. |

June 2012 - Winnipeg Bisons
Manager and GM Fritsche 14th June 2012 (Off day) Detroit gave 2B Jose Lopez (.293, 4 HR, 17 RBI) a new 4-year contract worth $27,720,000? Too much? No, way too much! The Royals reliever Kenta Satake (1-1-2, 3.80 ERA) signed a new 3-year deal worth $12,360,000. Not surprisingly no members from our lower A outfit Iqaluit (19-45) made the Midwest League All-Star-Game. |

June 2012 - Winnipeg Bisons
Manager and GM Fritsche 15th June 2012 (Off day) First-Year Player Draft - Doubletree Fallsview Restort & Spa, Niagara Falls, Canada Due to the free agent signing of Tom Gorzelanny, we dropped to 34th in the draft order. According to our scout director this is a rather weak draft class and there might be no "great picks" left when it's our turn. According to Baseball America our minor league system ranks 24th, with 1B Cromsie (.351, 8 HR, 29 RBI - AAA) being the top prospect (55th). SS Harrington (.275, 12 HR, 48 RBI) who did well at big league level is only ranked 60th. SISA thinks we have only decent talent at SS, CF and pitching, while the rest sucks big time. Indianapolis, Detroit, Philadelphia and Buffalo will draft first. Loeffle Blog thinks the following ten players will be drafted first: 1B Alejandro Hernández (19 years - HS) 3B Jeff Taylor (18 years - HS) C Alfonso Campos (21 years - C) 2B José Alvarez (22 years - C) SP Tokuzo Moss (21 years - C) SP Roger Beauregard (17 years - HS) 1B Glenn Smith (22 years - C) LF Enrique Arroyo (17 years - HS) RF Chris Dickey (18 years - HS) |

This draft offered absolutely nothing in terms of outfielders. Pitchers Martínez, Quinones and Astall look mature enough to help the woeful Iqaluit Moose. 1st round pick Heller, Villareal and Banuelos might also get a chance to see Lower A level baseball this year. The Buffalo Blizzards still have the big leagues best minor league system (5 players in the top 100), after adding another monster catcher in the draft. |

June 2012 - Winnipeg Bisons
Manager and GM Fritsche 15th June 2012 For the first time since I resigned last october, I face my old team; the Brewers. The new coach made some strange moves and had a very bad start, buw now they are above .500, after going 9-3 so far this month. It's hard to believe that they rank 14th in runs scored, and 14th in starters ERA. Injury Report: Winnipeg: MR H. Martínez (7 months) 2B B. Upton (3 weeks) 3B S. Schoop (7-8 weeks) SS J. Harrington (3 days) Milwaukee: n/a Game # 63 – Winnipeg [37-25] (R. Wells 5-3, 3.64 ERA, 29 BB, 58 K, 1.24 WHIP) at Milwaukee [32-30] (B. Webb 3-7, 3.81 ERA, 23 BB, 65 K, 1.31 WHIP) Winnipeg: CF Jeremy Reed (.241, 4 HR, 14 RBI, 5 SB) LF John Rodriguez (.266, 10 HR, 32 RBI, 2 SB) RF Jayson Werth (.259, 8 HR, 29 RBI, 3 SB) 3B Chris Davis (.294, 8 HR, 29 RBI) C Josh Bard (.280, 6 HR, 20 RBI) 1B Eric Duncan (.267, 8 HR, 15 RBI) SS Alberto Gonzalez (.286, 0 HR, 9 RBI) 2B Tripper Johnson (NR) Milwaukee: CF Justin Upton (.291, 10 HR, 28 RBI, 16 SB) RF Armando Velásquez (.304, 4 HR, 20 RBI, 1 SB) 1B Prince Fielder (.233, 8 HR, 29 RBI, 6 SB) 3B Ryan Braun (.303, 13 HR, 33 RBI, 10 SB) 2B Mark Reynolds (.275, 13 HR, 37 RBI, 1 SB) SS Mat Gamel (.299, 2 HR, 17 RBI) LF Daniel Perales (.237, 2 HR, 10 RBI, 4 SB) C Eliezer Alfonzo (.225, 0 HR, 4 RBI) Winnipeg at Milwaukee: 1-2 W: R. Wells - 6.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 5 BB, 5 K Time: 2:44 Attendance: 39658 The bullpen wasted a great performance by Wells, and Shelton walked inn the losing run with no outs in the 9th. June 2012 - Winnipeg Bisons
Manager and GM Fritsche 19th June 2012 Didn't look too good against the Brewers during game 1 and 2, but their new coach made some strange roster moves, which allowed us to take advantage of bad pitching. Halladay in relief, Parra still being a starter and free agent Perez being much worse than some of the young arms they have. As the Cardinals keep on losing, we have a four game gap on them, but the Brewers and Reds are just five games back. Our next opponent are the Braves, who are 2nd in the East, but already eight games behind the Marlins. As their record implies they are about pretty average in all aspects of the game. Injury Report: Winnipeg: MR H. Martínez (7 months) 2B B. Upton (2-3 weeks) 3B S. Schoop (7 weeks) Atlanta: SP M. Harrison (2 weeks) C B. McCann (5 days) CF G. June 2012 - Winnipeg Bisons
Manager and GM Fritsche 20th June 2012 Game # 68 – Atlanta [35-32] (C. James 5-2, 5.12 ERA, 24 BB, 45 K, 1.40 WHIP) at Winnipeg [39-28] (R. James (6-2); L: R. Wells (5-4) HR: B. Jones (3), J. Francoeur (21) / - E: - / T. Johnson (1) PoG: C. James - 8.0 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K Time: 2:38 Attendance: 40942 One bad inning (the 1st) was enough to lose this one. Elsewhere: Nationals 1B Aramis Ramirez (.263, 9 HR, 22 RBI) hit his 400th career home run in a 7-6 over Tampa Bay. The Mariners gave their reliever George Sherrill (2-1, 3.83 ERA) a new 2-year contract worth $4,880,000. Trades: The Red Sox sent starting pitcher Clay Buchholz (8-4, 3.18 ERA) to the Blue Jays for LF Jeff Fiorentino (.226, 5 HR, 19 RBI). Looks like a bad trade for Boston, but they have too many elite starting pitchers, and Fiorentino should give them .300 with 20 HR's in years to come. The Orioles traded starting pitcher Shinobu Fukuhara (3-7, 5.17 ERA) to the Mets for 1B Mike Carp (.221, 1 HR, 14 RBI) and minor league CF Troy England (.275, 0 HR, 11 RBI, 9 SB - AA). |

June 2012 - Winnipeg Bisons
Manager and GM Fritsche 23rd June 2012 Another series split against Braves, which keeps us first in the division. Just strange that the rest of the division keeps on losing. We now face the Blizzards, who do well after moving to the Eastern division. If they deal well with their prospects, they should be a powerhouse for years to come. Injury Report: Winnipeg: MR H. June 2012 - Winnipeg Bisons
Manager and GM Fritsche 28th June 2012 The Blizzards were once again swept, and I feel that I might have a .800 record against them in my managing career. They should have won two games easily, but Mr. Bergmann was against it. On to another old rival and another cold team, the Cubs of Chicago. At 31-43 they are virtually out of the race already. They pitch rather well, but their offense ranks 17th, with Boise being slightly worse. No more Ramirez, no more Lee, but in Felix Pie and Alfonso Soriano they still have two old stars on their roster. Yes, I'm mean now ... Injury Report: Winnipeg: MR H. Martínez (6-7 months) 2B B. Upton (5 days) 3B S. Schoop (5-6 weeks) Chicago: MR S. Eyre (7 weeks) Game # 75 – Chicago [31-43] (S. Gallagher 5-4, 1.88 ERA, 43 BB, 98 K, 1.07 WHIP) at Winnipeg [45-29] (J. Marceaux 9-4, 3.53 ERA, 30 BB, 70 K, 1.27 WHIP) Winnipeg: LF Jeremy Reed (.255, 5 HR, 18 RBI, 7 SB) RF Jayson Werth (.273, 11 HR, 36 RBI, 7 SB) 3B Chris Davis (.290, 12 HR, 40 RBI) SS Joe Harrington (.280, 15 HR, 59 RBI) 1B Kendry Morales (.278, 8 HR, 24 RBI) 2B Alberto Gonzalez (.281, 0 HR, 11 RBI, 2 SB) C Michael Yates (.306, 0 HR, 3 RBI) LF Hiram Bocachica (.218, 4 HR, 13 RBI, 2 SB) Chicago: 3B Nathan Samson (.245, 5 HR, 14 RBI, 1 SB) LF Alfonso Soriano (.241, 18 HR, 50 RBI, 9 SB) CF Tyler Colvin (.269, 9 HR, 33 RBI, 6 SB) 1B Adam LaRoche (.275, 9 HR, 26 RBI) 2B Scott Moore (.228, 14 HR, 34 RBI, 5 SB) RF Felix Pie (.287, 9 HR, 30 RBI, 12 SB) SS Perdo Delgado (.000, 0 HR, 0 RBI) - rookie from Argentina C J.R. House (.259, 7 HR, 32 RBI, 1 SB) Chicago at Winnipeg: 3-4 W: J. Marceaux (10-4); L: S. Gallagher (5-5) H: C. Armstrong (10) SV: S. Shelton (18) HR: A. LaRoche (10) / K. Morales (9) SB: N. Samson (2), A. Soriano 2 (11) / - E: - / M. Yates 2 (3) PoG: K. Morales - 2/3, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI Time: 2:41 Attendance: 40976 Our Nr. 4 starter Marceaux becomes the NL's first 10 game winner. Trade: The Rockies traded starting pitcher Brandon Hynick (6-2, 4.26 ERA) to Tampa Bay for minor leaguers LF Randy Wilson (.227, 5 HR, 31 RBI, 11 SB - A) and CF Dave Roberts (.281, 3 HR, 4 RBI, 3 SB - R). |
