Ellis Named '73 World Series Most Valuable Player
Pittsburgh right-hander Dock Ellis earned the 1973 Joy in Mudville World Series Most Valuable Player Award.
Ellis pitched a complete-game victory in the clincher for the Pirates' first JIM championship. In three Series starts, Ellis posted a 2-1 record with a 2.88 ERA. He walked six and struck out 10 in 25 innings. Kingman Honored as Top AL Rookie
Detroit Tiger Dave Kingman has been named the 1973 Joy in Mudville American League Rookie of the Year.
Kingman, 24, led the AL with 36 home runs. He batted .235 with 101 RBIs in 537 at-bats with the Tigers. Outfielder Richie Zisk of the Minnesota Twins finished second in the balloting. Milwaukee pitcher Doug Rau was third. Yeager Wins NL Rookie of the Year
Houston Astro catcher Steve Yeager has been named the Joy in Mudville National League Rookie of the Year.
Yeager, 24, batted .321 with 17 home runs and 71 RBIs for the NL West champion Astros. San Diego Padre teammates Dan Driessen and Jim Rice finished second and third respectively in the voting. Oliver Wins NL Comeback Player Honors
Outfielder Al Oliver of the Pittsburgh Pirates won the Joy in Mudville National League Comeback Player of the Year Award.
Oliver, who helped lead the Pirates to the JIM World Series title, captured the NL batting title with a .365 average. Oliver, who hit just .264 in 1972, also hit 17 homers and drove home 105 runs. Tiant Tabbed as Top AL Comeback Player
Texas Ranger pitcher Luis Tiant won the Joy in Mudville American League Comeback Player of the Year.

Ryan Takes AL Cy Young Award
Baltimore right-hander Nolan Ryan became the third Oriole pitcher to win the Joy in Mudville American League Cy Young Award.
The 26-year-old Ryan was a near unanimous pick as the AL's top pitcher. In 40 starts, Ryan was 28-5 with 1.86 ERA. He also struck out a JIM record 379 batters. The 26-year-old Moose posted a 28-7 record with a 2.19 ERA. Moose's teammate Dock Ellis finished second in the voting. Ellis was the NL Cy Young winner last year. Otis Tabbed as AL Most Valuable Player
Baltimore center fielder Amos Otis easily outdistanced teammate Johnny Grubb to win the Joy in Mudville American League Most Valuable Player Award.
Otis, who came over in a trade from Kansas City for last year's MVP Dick Allen, set a JIM record with 131 RBIs. He batted .321 with 19 home runs and scored 109 times. Otis becomes the third Baltimore Oriole to win the award. Al Oliver capped a Joy in Mudville World Series championship season by being named the National League Most Valuable Player.
Oliver won the NL batting title with a .365 average. He also hit 17 home runs and collected 105 RBIs for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Oliver is the second straight Pirate to win the honor.
