EWAFL: A football dynasty with a difference

Ok, it's not OOTP or even baseball related, and I might just be batshi- insane for doing it, but this is the dynasty forum, and so be it...

Disclaimer: All names and events are fictional, any relation to anything is coincidence, honest )

I have no way to simulate these games, so I'm basically writing them by hand, on pieces of paper, hence the 'batshi- insane' thing above.

Anything I post below this point, and not in italics, is fictional.

After many abortive and misguided attepempts to bring women's American football to England, it was decided to create regional leagues. This is one of them. The Eastern Woman's American Football League. The league will be based in Nottinghamshire, and have 8 teams in one division. There will be a draft of anyone who declare themselves eligible.

Rules:
7 - a - side, 80 yard field (Hence why I can't sim teh games easily ). 11 woman roster (This is the ultimate "ironman" league)
Up to 20 players on the reserve roster. It will be a 14 game season, with a playoff between the top 2 for the title.

Team names:
Newark Amazons
Lincoln Daemonettes
Loughbrough Angels
Leicester Harpys
Nottingham Marions
Carlton Black Widows
Skegness Sirens
Southwell Superiors

That will also be the draft order.

The next post will have the draft results in it, for the first 11 rounds (i.e. until the active roster is full)

TEAM PROFILE: NEWARK AMAZONS
Quarterbacks
Natalie Arnold is a pocket QB, she doesn't really have the mobility to make plays with her legs. Despite this she is a very dangerous passer, and could become one of the best in the league. As a backup Sarah King seems pretty capable, as long as she avoids the off-the-field issues that dogged her high school career.

Running back
Emma Cunningham is a power runner through and through. You won't see her break ankles with juke moves, but she'll jack up smaller defenders now and then. Like Sarah King she has had off-the-field issues in the past, but seems to have matured and got over them. Look for her to do well.

Receiver
As a group Jodie North, Amy Ward and Louise Price are fairly capable. Louise has the height, Amy the speed and Jodie the route skills. Combined with a good QB this could make them a big threat.

Offensive Line
Newark's line is not the most dominant at either run or pass blocking, however the surrounding cast has the potential to make up for the short comings if they play well. Watch out for Nikki Craven occasionally lining up as an eligible receiver.

Kicker
Amy Witten is a pretty good accuracy kicker. Her leg strength is debatable however. As a punter she is fairly consistent, but not brilliant, and her kickoffs could be better.

Defence
Overall not too bad, but not league leading either. They tend to make too many mistakes, and may sometimes give up easy big plays.

Sorry for the delay in an update, I've been doing college work most of the week!

TEAM PROFILE: LINCOLN DAEMONETTES
Quarterbacks
Poppy Pagis is almost a better runner than passer, expect plenty of QB running plays as long as she is behind center. Sarah Hall is pretty similar, but has a little more patience in the pocket.

Running back
Bree Smith is not likely to break too many tackles, but she makes up for that with her speed.

Receiver
None of Lincoln's WR's are blisteringly fast, but all are consistent, and smart route runners. Carrie-Ann Pollard can also line up as an extra linewoman / Tight end.

Offensive line
A good solid run blocking line, as you would expect from a team that intends to run an option-based offense. They suffer a bit in pass protection, but they shouldn't have to do that too much.

Kicker
Jane Marshall has a cannon leg, and is also pretty accurate. Her punts can be a bit erratic though, as can her kickoffs.

Defense
This team can all play defense well, and make up for some offensive failings with it.

TEAM PROFILE: LOUGHBROUGH ANGELS
Quaterbacks
Jane Anderson is a pretty average, balanced QB. She can run if she has too, but it isn't a focus of her game. Her backup Kiri Coxon is a little more of a pocket passer.

Halfback
Hannah Wilkins isn't the fastest runner, but she is consistent, and wont fumble the ball very often.

Receiver
3rd overall pick Kerry Simpson has the potential to be one of teh best recievers in the league, she is fast, but also has good hands and runs precise routes. Nadine Smith and Jade Matthews are pretty average possesion receivers, Jade also lines up as a TE sometimes.

Offensive line
Loughbroughs line is not the worst in the league, but it's not one of the best either. Expect them to have a tough time in the running game.

Kicker
Helena Good lives up to her name, she is a consistent and accurate kicker, with a fairly strong leg.

Defense
The Angels pass defense is probably one of the best in the league. Their run defense leaves a little to be desired though. Kerry Simpson is a standout at CB, to go along with her receiving talents.

TEAM PROFILE: LEICESTER HARPYS
Quarterbacks
Jean Crowder was a 6th round pick in the inaugral draft, and is only marginally starter material, she is fairly balanced between being mobile and a pocket passer, but she doesn't star at either. Nina Wilson has a chance of challenging for the starting job later in the season, but Neither QB is out of this world.

Running Back
Kate Singleton is a fairly good all around running back. She can break tackles, but also make people miss.

Receiver
Like Loughbrough, Leicester make up for mediocre QBs with at least one brilliant receiver. Amelia Rick may not be that fast, but she runs near perfect routes and can make spectacular catches. Sarah Marshall is also a good possesion receiver, with Emma Western providing the deep threat.

Offensive line
The offensive line could prove to be a strength for Leicester. The are perhaps the best run blocking line in the league, and they aren't bad at pass blocking either.

Kicker
Maria Dennington has average distance, but is pretty accurate. Her kickoffs and punts are pretty good too.

Defense
Defense is not a real strength for this team, they tend to give up a lot of points, and their offense may not be able to keep up.

TEAM PROFILE: NOTTINGHAM MARIONS
Quarterbacks
As well as having arguably the best name in the league, Saint-Cherelle Garraway is a great all round QB, if a little green. In time she could become the best.
Penny Bellyeald should prove a capable backup, but she hopefully wont be needed.

Runningback
Zoe Carney is primarily a safety, and as such is a fast runner, but her ball handling skills are debatable. Expect a few fumbles.

Receiver
Lauren Cloke is the standout of this WR group. She is tough over the middle, and would make any QB look good, let alone the best in the league. Carly Bickerstaffe and Coral Armitage are also not at all bad.

Offensive line
Nottingham's offensive line is a pretty good unit, excelling at pass blocking, as would be expected. Run blocking could be a bit of a problem, but might not matter so much if the QBs and WRs play to potential.

Defense
Besides Zoe Carney the defense are all pretty good. They will get a lot of turnovers.

Woohoo! an update!

TEAM PROFILE: CARLTON BLACK WIDOWS
Quarterbacks
Anne-Marie Anderson is not the greatest QB in the league, and may struggle to make much of an impression. Her backup Joanne Christianson is ok as just that, a backup.

Running Back
Jo Colleto is a power runnig back, but she is not very fast, and perhaps a little too prone to injury to be considered an elite player.

Receiver
Kristen Mangen is a very good possession receiver, but the other two WRs, Donna Puleikis and Jenny Whitehead are average in just about every respect.

Offensive line
Generally a good run blocking line. Ellen Geary may well turn into a star. Alison Claxton is a good player, but is a little controversial.

Kicker
Danielle Cope is perhaps a bright spot, her accuracy may well be unmatched, and she is no slouch when it comes to leg strength either.

Defense
Overall, their defense cannot be called aweful, but to say it is any more than average would be inaccurate. They play hard, but it's not always enough to get the job done.

TEAM PROFILE: SKEGNESS SIRENS
Quarterbacks
Sarah Keeley has the potential to be brilliant, with very good arm strength and poise, but her past is chequered by rather controversial behaviour. Jody Smith is a good runner and can make big plays, but her arm strength is a little suspect.

Running back
Lorna Williams is a pretty good all around runner. She'll make some people miss, and run over others. Fumbles the ball too much to be considered brilliant though.

Receiver
As receiving units go, Skegness has a pretty good one, Brianny O'Neil is a very good deep threat, and Tamara Seddon and Cari Sullivan provides a short yard possession threat.

Offensive line
Overall a pretty good line, they aren't the biggest though and may be overmatched in games where they are forced to play hard.

Kicker
Anna Webb may not be a brilliant kicker, but she is consistent from within her, pretty short, range.

Defense
What she lacks as a kicker, Webb makes up for as a Safety. She is the defensive star, of an otherwise fairly average defense.

TEAM PROFILE: SOUTHWELL SUPERIORS
Quarterbacks
Keeley Moran is perhaps a little green to start as a pro, so she will have some work to do. She has a good arm and the right attitude though. Leeann Pass is a pretty good backup, who could challebnge for a start if Keeley plays badly.

Running Back
Hayley Fairclough may never be a hall of fame back, but it's not for a lack of effort, she is a good balanced runner, and has potential.

Receiver
Caren Reid, Ana Titerenko and Sarah Daunt are one of the better speed WR units in the league. Possesion ability is perhaps limited, but they are always a deep threat.

Offensive line
Overall this offensive line is pretty good. As you would expect they are a little better on running plays, but they aren't too shabby in pass protection either.

Kicker
Gail Rigby is a decent clutch kicker, and could be a game winner if given the chance. Whether the offense can put her in that position remains to be seen.

Defense
This is a defense based on good coverage, and as such they excel against the pass. It may be possible to run on them with some success, however.

That's it for team profiles (finally!) up next will be the season proper!

NEWARK TOO BRACING FOR SKEGNESS!
Amazons 31 - 28 Sirens
Skegness may be famous for being "So Bracing", a reference to it's imfamous windy conditions, but it was the Newark Amazons who blew away the Skegness Sirens in the EWAFL's opening game. Newark got off to a fairly slow start, and were behind 21 - 14 at the half, however a 17 point 3rd quarter was enough as they held off a late Skegness rally.

SAINT GOD-LIKE AS NOTTS ROLL LINCOLN!
Marions 29 - 17 Daemonettes
Saint-Cherelle Garraway seemed to squash any opinions of being too inexperienced by playing brilliantly against Lincoln. She threw 3 TD passes and ran for another TD, also throwing a 2pt conversion, to account for 26 of Nottingham's 29 points. Lincoln's defense struggled all game, and their unique option-style offense seemed to lack firepower. Running back Bree Smith scored both Lincoln TDs.

ANGELS TOO GOOD FOR HARPYS!
LOUGHBROUGH 24 - 14 LEICESTER
With neither team pre-season favourites, many people wrote off this matchup as meaningless, but Loughbrough clearly wanted this more. This was a close game until about the 3rd quarter, when the angels took over, and won it.
