Thursday, August 1st, 2120: Shimizu Named Top AL Hurler
Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Sadao Shimizu still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in July. The 29-year-old starter for Hartford was named American League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 5 wins and no losses with 59 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 2.00 ERA in 45 innings of work.

His record this season is 16-0 in 23 starts and Shimizu has a 1.99 ERA.

Thursday, August 1st, 2120: NL's Best Batter Announced
When guys like New York's Mike Kirby win Batter of the Month awards, it just makes you feel good. In a productive July, the longtime National League veteran toyed with opposing pitchers all month long, collecting 43 hits in 98 at-bats.

The veteran first baseman hit for a .439 batting average and collected 15 home runs, 35 RBIs and 28 runs scored.

So far in 2120, Kirby is batting .388 with 41 home runs and 103 RBIs.

Thursday, August 1st, 2120: Wooten Snares AL Top Batter Award in July
Mike Wooten earned July's Batter of the Month honors in the American League by reeling off a .475 average, going 47 for 99 with 7 home runs, 21 RBIs and 31 runs scored.

The soon-to-be free agent was hitting with great urgency in an effort to bolster his asking price in the Tampa Bay clubhouse and around the rest of the league.

Thus far in 2120 Wooten is batting .400 with 33 home runs, 79 RBIs and 108 runs scored.

Tuesday, September 3rd, 2120: García Makes 500 HR Mark
Yankees left fielder Frank García reached a career milestone yesterday, blasting home run number 500.

He took the achievement in stride. "It's always good to get another home run and even better to get another win," García told reporters in the postgame interview.

He went 1-3 during the New York 21-3 triumph over the Toronto Blue Jays and scored 2 runs with 1 RBI.

García's all-time stats include: 2698 hits, 470 doubles, 35 triples, 500 home runs and 1600 RBIs in 2301 games. He is batting .325 with 15 stolen bases and has scored 1526 runs.

Tuesday, September 3rd, 2120: Keller Has Hot Hand, Bangs 5 hits
It doesn't happen very often, but it happened for Mike Keller -- a 5-hit day. He went on a rampage at Yankee Stadium and paced the Yankees to a 21-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays.

After his dynamite batting performance the New York center fielder told the press, "I just tried to get myself in a good count and have a good at-bat. That's all I can control." His philosophy paid some great dividends today. He slammed 5 hits in 5 tries and put his name in the record book.

M. Keller doubled in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 5th and hit a two-run home run off H. Tang in the 6th.

For the year Keller is batting .299 with 155 hits and 4 home runs. He has scored 107 times and driven in 41.

Tuesday, September 17th, 2120: Number 1000 for Wooten
Tampa Bay's outstanding first baseman Mike Wooten joined the 1000 home run club today at Tropicana Field with a booming blast in the Rays win over the White Sox. They topped Chicago 10-3.

On his milestone day Wooten had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 4 RBI and 2 runs scored.

Tongue-in-cheek he told the press, "Don't tell me when I get close to the next milestone. Just tell me after I reach it. It will be easier to hit that way."

Wooten has put up a career batting average of .345 with 4170 hits, 1000 homers and 2758 RBIs.

Tuesday, October 1st, 2120: Triple Crown Year for Kirby
Mike Kirby of the New York Mets joined an elite class of hitters this year when he won the 7th Triple Crown in MLB history.

He paced all National League hitters in all three categories with a .365 batting average, 53 home runs and 146 RBIs. To add to those impressive numbers, he also had 210 hits, 38 doubles, 1 triple and scored 138 times during the season.

"The 2120 season was really special for Mike. Everything clicked for him this year. He is an exceptional player." the Mets skipper told BNN reporters.

Tuesday, October 1st, 2120: Hartford's Shimizu Claims AL Triple Crown
Sadao Shimizu of the Hartford Whalers could be headed for the American League Roger Clemens Award. 2120 was a season he will never forget. The Whalers pitching star won the league's Triple Crown, winning 25 games, striking out 302 and logging a 2.15 ERA -- all league bests.

"It's an honor," Shimizu told BNN, "Not many pitchers can say they've won the Triple Crown. Usually the batting Triple Crown gets all of the attention."

In his sensational year he registered 25 wins and no losses. An opposing manager said, "I can see how he won 25 games. What I don't understand is how he lost 0."

Tuesday, October 1st, 2120: Members Only: Wooten Joins .400 Club
Mike Wooten is soaking up the praise today after hitting an eye-popping .402 this season. The Tampa Bay Rays first baseman surpassed even his own expectations.

"I thought I could hit .350, maybe," he said, his eyes misting over. "To go beyond that..." His voice trailed off before he continued, "It's like a dream."

The Rays star made the season a nightmare for his opposition, rattling off 212 hits including 31 doubles, 1 triples and 47 home runs. He scored 156 times and collected 119 runs batted in.

With the playoffs mere hours away, each of the contenders are putting their game faces on. It's time for ballplayers to leave it all on the field. In the Major League Baseball playoffs, miracles do happen, but most often it's simply the team that plays better baseball that goes home with the prize -- the much-coveted World Series championship. The First Round starts today with these games:

New York Yankees versus Hartford Whalers, Detroit Tigers versus Cleveland Indians, San Francisco Giants versus New York Mets and Pittsburgh Pirates versus Washington Nationals.

Sportswriters, fans and team officials watched today as 42-year-old first baseman Mike Wooten committed to a $16,950,000, 1-year deal with the Cincinnati organization.

Some openly worry that despite his talent, Wooten is too old to get it done anymore and that his value to the club will sharply diminish before the 1-year agreement has run its course.

For his career Wooten has batted .344 and hit 1001 home runs.

Sunday, June 1st, 2121: NL's Best Batter Announced
Free agent-to-be Mike Wooten has inflated his asking price over the past 30 days by winning the National League Batter of the Month.

In May, the 43-year-old Cincinnati first baseman hit .500 with 14 home runs and 26 RBIs.

If he keeps putting numbers like that up, he could be hauling in a big wad of cash at this time next year.

Posting a .507 batting average to date, Wooten has 19 home runs and 43 RBIs.

Sunday, June 1st, 2121: Hartford Starter Wins May's Pitcher Award

In 11 starts this season Lane has fashioned a 8-1 record and a 1.08 ERA.
