2121 World Series: New York Mets vs. New York Yankees

This is the third time that we have a Subway Series: The Yankees won in 2112 and 2115. The Yankees are 5-0 in the World Series, and the Mets are 0-5, so we know what is at stake here. Also, the American League's 15-year winning streak is on the line.

After all of these years, the Mets are finally World Series Champions! They came back from a 3-1 series deficit to shock the Yankees, and they clinched in their enemy's backyard. The Mets also won two incredible extra inning games to keep give them a chance in this series. If not for that 16-inning victory in Game 3, the Yankees probably would have swept the Mets. It took the Mets 17 playoff appearances and 6 World Series appearances, but they are finally the #1 baseball team in the world. Also, the American League's streak of 15 World Series wins in a row has come to an end.

2121 World Series Champions: New York Mets

There are two Hall-of-Fame inductees this year:

Played in 2856 games, batted .326 with 89 home runs, 3533 base hits, 1058 RBI's, and 2344 runs scored. The most telling stat, though, is that he stole an incredible 2035 bases. Keller was a key member of the New York Yankees teams that won 5 World Series in a row from 2111-2115.

Guillermo Jimenez: SP. Played 17 seasons for the Kansas City Royals, Toronto Blue Jays, and New York Yankees. 244-131 won-loss record, 3533 strikeouts, in 3275.1 innings and a 3.15 ERA. He won the 2106 World Series with the Kansas City Royals and 3 World Series between 2113-2115 with the New York Yankees. He won the 2107 Outstanding Pitcher award, and was also pitcher of the month 3 times.

Sunday, April 12th, 2122: Milligan in Command, No-Hits Jazz
The Boston Red Sox were only hoping for a solid outing from Harry Milligan, instead the 26-year-old pitcher tossed a no-hitter against the New Orleans Jazz. Using a brilliant mix of offspeed pitches and fastballs, Milligan kept the New Orleans hitters off balance all game long in the 7-0 victory at Jazz Park. The Boston hurler fanned 9 and walked 1 in his record-making performance.

"I felt pretty good throughout the game," he said after his spectacular outing for the Red Sox. "As I was going into the ninth inning, I was not nervous. I knew I had a chance to do something special."

That something special got his name in the league record books.

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2122: Lane Spins 18-K Game
The Hartford Whalers were victorious over the Minnesota Twins today 2-1 at XL Field after getting an outstanding performance from starting pitcher Brennan Lane. The 39-year-old Lane brought his top game to the mound, striking out 18 batters while allowing 1 hit and no walks.

"He made a lot of good pitches out there," the Minnesota manager said. "He made some of our guys look bad. We didn't help matters by swinging at everything, but we really have to give him credit -- he didn't make many mistakes."

Sunday, May 17th, 2122: Rivas King of Fling with No-Hitter
Martín Rivas was pretty calm about his no-hitter -- until the last three outs. "You really become conscious of every pitch then. The adrenaline level kicks up even higher. And everybody in the ballpark knows a no-hitter is on the line. The crowd is on its feet. One mistake and it's all over."

But on this day at Fenway Park, Rivas of the Boston Red Sox was in complete command, not allowing the Hartford Whalers a single base hit in the 8-0 victory.

"Obviously, you never think this will happen," he said. "I don't know if it's really sunk in yet." Rivas faced 28 batters, had 12 strikeouts and 1 walk in a dominating effort. "To do this you have to have a good defense behind you, too."

"He was on from the get-go," one of the Whalers said. "He throws quite a few pitches. He was hitting his spots and keeping us off balance. It was a great game by him."

In 8 starts this season Rivas has crafted a 4-2 record with a 3.03 ERA.

Wednesday, July 8th, 2122: Orioles' McGowan No-Hits Pilots
Excitement reigned at the ballyard today as Baltimore hurler Henry McGowan tossed a baseball rarity -- a no-hitter.

After defeating the Portland Pilots at Orioles Ballpark 3-0 he was swamped by reporters in the clubhouse for postgame comments. "I'm just glad to be here. I want to help the club any way I can. Today I just went right at the Portland as hard as I could, as long as I could."

McGowan chalked up 10 strikeouts and allowed 4 walks in his superb performance.

The Baltimore manager had his own analysis of the ballgame: "I don't think we could have hit him with a howitzer today."

In 2122, McGowan has chalked up 8 wins and 6 losses in 17 starts with 71 strikeouts in 107.2 innings and a 3.68 ERA.

It was a great day for José Uribes today -- he picked up victory number 200 to join the great pitchers of the past in the exclusive 200 Club. The New York ace stopped the Las Vegas Aces 10-2, yielding 6 hits and recording 7 strikeouts and 1 walk in his milestone game.

"200 wins puts you in some pretty good company," Uribes told reporters. "I'm honored to be there."

Saturday, July 25th, 2122: Wooten 5-7 Against Blue Jays
Today Mike Wooten put on a hitting clinic as the New York first baseman sprayed hits all over the ballpark by lashing Toronto pitching for 5 hits in 7 at-bats. But the Blue Jays didn't really seem to care, they won the game 11-10.

He told BNN reporters after the game that he just hit it where they pitched it. "Too often I try to pull the ball too much. Today I just went with the pitch. It's great to get 5 hits, but it would have been nicer to win the ballgame. too."

M. Wooten hit an RBI triple in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off J. Williams in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, flied out in the 6th, walked in the 9th, walked in the 10th, flied out in the 13th, hit an RBI single in the 14th, walked in the 16th and singled in the 18th.

Thursday, July 30th, 2122: It's a No-No for Bailey
The Oakland Athletics relied on no-hit stuff from David Bailey to defeat the Chicago White Sox 3-0 at US Cellular Field.

"It's quite a thrill," a candid Bailey told the media afterward, "This is a top-notch league. A no-hitter against any team in the league is something special. I can't believe I did it."

To get his name logged in the records, he stopped Chicago cold, with no hits, surrendering 2 walks and fanning 11 batters, facing only 28 batters.

Bailey said in a postgame interview, "Games like this are something special. They don't come around very often, if ever. I knew from the fifth inning that I had a no-hitter working. I just tried to get it out of my mind, but you just can't. They have too many scoreboards in the park. They are everywhere you look."

In a jovial mood, his manager kiddingly told the reporters, "He definitely made it easy for me today. I didn't have any great decisions to make like I usually have to do. Didn't even have to come up with a pinch hitter. I love it when my pitchers pitch a no-hitter."

This season in 23 starts David Bailey has a record of 12-5 with 199 strikeouts in 167.1 innings and a 1.72 ERA.

Saturday, August 1st, 2122: Lane Wins AL Top Pitcher Award
It was a very good month for Brennan Lane in July. The 39-year-old veteran starter for the Hartford Whalers outpitched everybody -- young and old -- to claim the American League Pitcher of the Month award earlier today.

Lane ran up a 7-0 record in his 7 starts during the month. In 51.1 innings he fanned 71 and recorded a 2.10 ERA.

This season to date Lane has a record of 18 wins and 3 losses with a 1.80 ERA, has appeared in 24 games and struck out 242 in 175 innings.

Sunday, August 23rd, 2122: Montgomery Joins Kings of Clout with #400
Jack Montgomery smashed his 400th career home run in a game against Carolina today. The 33-year-old third baseman had a hand in the New York Mets 5-4 victory with 1 home run and 2 RBI. For the day he went 1 hit-3 at-bats.

At the press conference after the game, Montgomery downplayed his achievement.

"Obviously, I've hit 400 home runs so I belong in that 400 club. But when you talk about the other guys that have done it, I'm not as good as they were. Those guys were the greatest of all time. I've just been able to scrape together some good years and stayed healthy and gotten there."

His career numbers show Montgomery has batted .292 and collected 2072 hits, 400 home runs and 1417 RBIs.

Monday, August 24th, 2122: American League Awards Best Batter Prize
Few players his age are still in the league, but Mike Wooten of the New York Yankees clearly loves the game and clearly he can still get the job done. Last week the 44-year-old first baseman hit the ball with the consistency of someone ten years younger, which made Wooten a popular and well-deserved selection as American League Player of the Week.

He paced the Yankees attack by putting up a .450 batting average, 9 hits in 20 at-bats, 12 RBIs and 4 home runs. Wooten also scored 12 runs.

This season Wooten is batting .434 with 116 RBIs, 146 runs scored and 35 home runs.
