Happy times in Hartford as the Whalers and star reliever Nick Payton put the finishing touches on a $7,231,200 contract extension that will keep the 25-year-old in town 2 years longer.

The signing is great news for Hartford because players of this caliber are hard to come by.

Thursday, December 9th, 2117: Muñóz Signs for 4 years
Hartford fans celebrated as word of a signing became reality. Javier Muñóz won't be pulling up stakes anytime soon, as he has signed a 4-year extension at a pay rate of $15,260,000 per annum.

Saturday, January 1st, 2118: Mathews Among Greats in MLB HOF
The Major League Baseball Hall of Fame honors those players who are the best at their position, those special individuals whose skills make them unforgettable in the eyes of baseball fans everywhere. Another such player was recognized today, as center fielder Adrian Mathews was enshrined at his induction ceremony.

There was no mistaking the look of pride on Adrian Mathews's face as he saw his statue for the first time and the plaque recounting the many accomplishments over his 1991-game career. Mathews played until he was 38 and had a lifetime .307 batting average with 479 home runs. Baseball's newest Hall of Famer batted in 1395 runs and scored 1474 times.

Fans of all ages watched in appreciation as Mathews blinked back tears. "I really don't know what to say during such an enormous moment," he managed to finally say, "because words cannot describe all the feelings and thoughts running through my head. The love and appreciation from all my fellow players and all of the fans out there has been overwhelming, but I would not be here today without the love and support of my family. My greatest thanks goes to them."

"He made a lot of good pitches out there," the Kansas City manager said. "He made some of our guys look bad. We didn't help matters by swinging at everything, but we really have to give him credit -- he didn't make many mistakes."
