Here's my ballot:

Bazeley
Chappell
Dickey
Hauser
Rich
Stephens
Blanton
Jessup
Ornelas
Orozoco

Some really, really tough cuts here. You might want to think about cutting some guys a little slack and leaving them on the ballot even if they don't get support this first time around.

This looks like it will be fun. Thanks, Big Six.

I might give that some thought, LPT. We'll see how the first election turns out. Thanks for your ballot, by the way.

Very few of our voters have sent in their ballots.

I'll leave the balloting up for a while longer.

Sorry, I'm a little behind on my dynasty reading (I blame getting Dragon Age for Xmas) - I'll catch up and vote this weekend.

Sorry, have been tied up lately and hadn't really ventured outside the updates in my own thread. Like the others said, a tough ballot here. But we'll go for

Bazeley
Carlos
Dickey
Hauser
Rich
Schmitt

Orozoco
Jessup

I don't know the catcher depth of your league, but I'd consider Stephens...500+ VORP from behind the dish. I'll vote him, too, just to be different

I actually cheated a little with him and made sure somebody else voted for him so he wouldn't get dropped off the ballot. He was my 11th man and will get a vote next year.

Thanks for the ballots, guys. I hope I didn't come across as being pushy. I know how busy we all are. I mean...I had planned to get this started in August, after all!

Tim Stephens is third all time in VORP among catchers. The two who are ahead of him, Mickey Cochrane (709.0) and Henry Harris (629.7) are still active.

One other factor that affects Stephens' career is the fact that he was 27 before the dynasty began in 1920. That cost him the hits he'd need to reach 3000, I'm thinking.

There are a few other catchers who have had excellent careers.
  • Dave Neal is now with the Red Sox after starring with Seattle from 1920-1936. He's 40 now, and slowing down, and he'll finish his career with 2800 hits or so, and a lifetime average in the .290s.

  • In his 18th season with the Indians, Gabby Hartnett has hit over 200 homers, driven in over 1400 runs, batted over .280, and won a Gold Glove.

  • Josh Gibson, now 27 years old and enjoying his prime, has almost 200 home runs, over 700 RBI and runs scored, a VORP approaching 500, and a lifetime OPS of .976 and climbing.

  • Bob McBryde is even younger; he's 26. Now in his fifth full season, the Senators backstop has hit at least .330 every year with lots of walks and plus defense.

Thanks! I'll keep the balloting open for a few more days. And, on a related note, I hope all of you who have voted in this year's election will become regular voters who participate every time.

I'm going to bump this one more time, to see if there's anybody out there who might like to slip a ballot into the box before the voting closes.
