Exclamation Dynasty writers and blogs

Hi dynasty writers!

If you hadn't noticed, we've added a blog feature to the forum. I'm not entirely sure, but that may be even better suited to dynasty writing than forum posts.

I've just started my own dynasty blog here. There's a "Dynasty" blog category too, so you can use that if you elect to create a blog...

Thanks!

Steve

What would the difference be between that and a regular Dynasty Thread? Sorry if it should be obvious, I'm just unfamiliar with the blog feature here.

Thanks.

I'll let you know when I figure it out.

The main thing, I think, would be that each time you post, it would be a new "thread" but within your blog, so that it would be very easy for readers to read just YOUR official posts, without having to wade through comments if they didn't want to.

I think.

Actually yes that makes sense. Anyone that wanted to comment on your latest update or what not could do so,and anyone that wanted to just read your dynasty can go directly without reading through all the following comment posts.

Is there a central listing of all dynasty blogs? Right now I know to visit this forum to read dynasty threads. I'd have no idea where to go to find dynasty blogs. I see a "Blogs" pull down menu on the user bar at the top of each page here on the forums, but none of the entries there specify "dynasty blogs".

Also, are these blogs RSS-enabled? In other words, is there some way to let interested followers know that your blog has been updated recently?

If you go to Blogs --> Blog List, there is a Blog Categories section where you can click Dynasty to see all Dynasty blogs.

I don't know much about RSS, but when I look at my blog, there is an option called "View RSS Feed."

It looks like this: OOTP Developments Forums - Blogs

That appears to be the RSS feeds of everthing, but you can also subscribe to an individual blog. We could test some of this out. If someone subscribes to my blog, I can post something new tonight, and you can tell me if you get notified!

I can confirm that you can subscribe to the RSS feed by clicking the View RSS Feed and then adding it to Google Reader. Pretty cool.

I've posted a few different entries now, so not sure if that can help us test out anything...

I've posted a comment on your most recent entry - and that seems to work.

Didn't see the RSS thing yet - but I will add you now!

Very cool that the RSS thing works! I'll certainly note that down. It's been a goal of mine to have some of the owners in my online leagues start their own dynasty threads. This development should help encourage them.

Very interesting development. Thanks for the update!

I think I like the comments feature for each individual post, rather than the comments embedded in the thread.

Yeah, as a writer, that's really cool. Also, it makes it much easier for a reader to just look for the "official" posts.

I'm fooling around with as we speak.

Seems pretty cool. Like the ability to add pictures. Awesome.

Would there be a way to integrate this into OOTP11? Allow for some use of the information in-game, like standings, league leaders, etc. to be posted as stories in the game and then linked to the blog feature on the website?

When I try to post my thread entry onto a blog it tells me that the blog is "too short" and I need to enter another character.....this is the case with all my entires, thus I cant start up my blog.

Can u go over the basics of how to start a blog for my dynasty?

Thanks

When you quote a post in either the forum or into a blog, the vbulletin software insists that you add something to it.

I think if you remove the
and
from it, it should then let you post it.

I'm planning to start a new dynasty which will have fictional teams, stadiums, managers and owners, but I'm undecided on whether to use real players or fictional players.

The good thing about the real players is the name recognition and the "What if?" of seeing guys who didn't play together in real life being on the same team. But with the fictional palyers the option is there to create an entirely new history.

I'm also going to create stories based on the rivalries between the different team owners and the backroom politics, rather than just concentrate entirely on what happens on the field.

Hmm. Decisions, decisions.

Hi everybody, my name is Wayne. I actually have played OOTP for quite a while now and just realized today that there is a forum. Looking forward to interacting with everybody else who plays this game. It adds another dimension to gameplay. By the way, I am looking to start a new dynasty here as I see many people posting their stories here. Anyone have suggestions what team I should take over and start in what year?

1911 St. Louis Browns (45-107), see how quickly you can turn them into a winner. It took them 33 years, how fast can you do it? I was thinking of doing something like that once I finished up my English baseball dynasty but that probably won't be for a couple of years yet.
