OOTP X: Texas Rangers

Ok having found OOTP last month(I wish I found it along time ago) and playing around with it to get a feel of the game and used to it. So here goes my first attempt at writing a dynasty, the reason I've picked the Rangers is I have some family who live there and they were the first team I saw play in the flesh as opposed to watching on TV.

Now for some house rules:

Trading Difficulty- Hard
Trading Preference- Favor Prospects.

For Trades and Waivers a dice roll will decide on how many I'm allowed to make in a season the same will apply for FA's at the end of the season too. If the AI offers a trade to me that wont count against my allotted trade allowance, unless I alter the trade.
1=1
2=2
3=3
4=Roll again
5&6=none

If anyone wants to know what other settings I'm using then feel free to ask.
(And if anyone is reading this if you could direct me to a thread telling one on how to get screenshots here or tell me how to get them here that would be greatly appreciated)

We have some good batters and glovemen in our team, we also have a few guys who aren't on the 40 man roster who could have big careers in the big league. The biggest talent is Justin Smoak if he turns out how the scouts say he will then for the next 10-12 years our No.4 slot will be his, but for the moment he'll be in AA with the Rough Riders but may get moved to AAA at somepoint in the season. We also have high hopes for our rookie SS Andrus who looks like he'll be our SS for the next decade.

I'm not sure how others do screenshots, but I use a freeware program located here to save it as an image file, then upload it to photobucket and then insert the link to photobucket.

Good luck with the Rangers.

April 5th:

Sitting in the office I finalise my line-ups for the start of the season, now I'm not expecting these line-ups to play everyday as I know that loss of form/injuries etc will play their part during the season but i feel these are our strongest line ups at present.

Vs RHP:
1) Young 3B
2) Kinsler 2B
3) Davis 1B
4) Hamilton LF
5) Blalock DH
6) Byrd CF
7) Saltalamacchia C
8) Murphy RF
9) Andrus SS

Vs LHP:
1) Young 3B
2) Kinsler 2B
3) Davis 1B
4) Hamilton LF
5) Byrd CF
6) Jones DH
7) Saltalamacchia C
8) Cruz RF
9) Andrus SS

Our pitching rotation to start the season off is,

1) Millwood
2) Feldman
3) McCarthy
4) M.Harrison
5) Padilla.

In a bid to bolster our bullpen we make an offer for J.Hammel (Colorado Rockies) and C.Perez (St. Louis Cardinals) we're expecting to hear back shortly to see if we're successful in signing them. Hammel could one day make the starting rotation if he could develop another pitch but until he does he'd fill a spot and provide some effective relief from the 'pen. Perez is a hard throwing closer, he may not get the job as closer here but he'd again offer a better arm than what we have in the pen at the moment.

April 6th-10th vs Cleveland Indians at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.

Game 1, Att:48,984

The game couldn't have started better for us, Kinsler and Saltamacchia both hit solo home runs in the first 2 inns also at that point Millwood was pitching well 6 strikeouts in the first 3 inns. Then it all went wrong the Indians shut us down and Millwood became less effective and started leaking runs and hits.

Game 2, Att:48,638

The pattern for this game followed the 1st we got out the gate quickly and got Carmona out of the game in the 4th inns, it was nip and tuck until the Indians blew it open in the top of the 6th and we had no reply they added an insurance run in the top of the 9th, but they needen't have bothered as Wood pitched a 1-2-3 9th.

Game 3, Att:42,610

Again it was like watching a rerun of the other 2 games, but this time it was the Indians that started fast, at one stage it looked like we were going to be shut out, but then in the 6th we remembered how to hit, some solid bullpen pitching helped protect the lead and Perez recorded his first save since joining us.

April 10-12th:

Game 1, Att:41,701

M.Harrison pitched 7 good innings giving up 3 hits and 1 run. It took us a few innings to get going with the bat but after Jones hit his 1st homer of the season and Saltalamacchia hit his 2nd of the year in the same innings the result was never in doubt. Late on Blalock hit his first homer of the year and Andrus stole home. 2 wins on the bounce so we're at .500 for the year and hopefully wont go under that mark for the rest of the year.

Game 2, Att:41,537

Again we give a run up in the 1st, but we hit back in the 2nd, Saltalamacchia then hits his 3rd homer of the year in the 3rd innings. We add 2 insurance runs late on but they weren't needed as Padilla, Strop and Fransisco combine for a solid pitching effort.

Game 3, Att:41,613

Again the Tigers score a run in the 1st, not sure if our pitchers are warming up as we always seem to walk a few early doors too. For a few innings it did look like that run could be enough for the Tigers as we couldn't get a hit off of Miner, then when the score was level the defence of both team took over until the Tigers bullpen entered the game, Andrus scored the go ahead run in the 7th, Andrus attempted to steal 3rd the throw from Treanor was wild and went into the outfield, Hammel and Fransisco took over from Millwood and took us to the series sweep and an overall record of 4-2.

April13th-15th:

Game 1; Att: 48,757

After the now normal slow start by the starting pitcher, we fight back and take the lead with a useful 3rd innings we then add 2 more runs in the 5th and it appears the fat woman is starting to warm up. Feldman who had an average 1st innings pitched well although he did give up the only home run of the game which was the 1st of the year for Wigginton. Then the Rangers bullpen melt down began, C.J Wilson and Madrigal allowed 3 runs in the 8th and Perez forgot how to pitch has he allowed 5 runs in the 9th to blow the lead and the game for us, Walker then finished us off with a 1-2-3 in the 9th.

Game 2; Att: 49,048

McCarthy pitched a useful 7 innings for us allowing 9 hits but only 1 run and the bullpen kept it tight like they had for every game aside from the last one. Even though we were out hit by the Orioles we took advantage of the runners we got in scoring position whereas the Orioles left 12 on base and of those 5 were stranded on 3rd. Lady luck was with us tonight as on another day it could so easily been a win for the Orioles.

Game 3; Att: 48,886

The Texas run machine was in full effect tonight, we had a big 4th innings scoring 7 runs Murphy hit his 1st home run of the year during that innings. Wieters hit his 1st home run in the big league in the 6th which resulted in a 3 run rally, but aside from that the Rangers pitching stuff was on form to take us to our 6th win of the year.

Game 1, Att:48,948

Padilla pitched a perfect game through 7, then a rookie mistake by me trying to get him to pitch just a little longer blew up in my face as the Royals scored 3 runs to tie the game. We had a chance to win it in the 9th but failed to do so and then in the 10th with 2 outs the Royals scored 3 runs to take the game.

Game 2, Att:49,067

After yesterdays mistake by me, I pulled Millwood after 5th, he had a high pitch count and had walked several batters, Strop and Wilson combined for a 4innings shut out. We busted open the game in the 8th with 5 runs, Murphy hit his 2nd homer of the year with 2 on, to make up for last nights defeat.

Game 3, Att: 48,656

We started with a bang, then the Royals slowly crawled their way back into the game, with a few home runs(Gordon in the 4th and DeJesus in the 7th with 1 on) and Rangers hearts started beating a little faster when Jacobs made it a 1 run game, but Fransisco held on for his 3rd save of the year. Murphy carried on his good form with his 3rd homer of the year in the 7th.

April 21st-23rd

Game 1, Att: 36,765

One of those tight ballgames that could go either way, alas for us it went the way of the Blue Jays. Quintanilla drove in the early Blue Jay run and for a time it looked like that would be enough until Hamilton hit his 1st home of the year in the 8th. In a tight ballgame the last thing you need is errors and we committed 3 in the 10th to lose the game.

Game 2, Att: 36,162

The Doc put on a pitching master class, our batters were like rabbits trapped in the headlights, by the time we got our first hit we were already 3 behind, Blalock give us hope in the 7th with a 2 run homer the 2nd of the year for him. That's how close we got to making it a game the Blue Jays added 2 insurance runs in the 8th but didn't really need too.

Game 3, Att:36,145

This game was another tight one. Tallet give up 1 hit in 6 innings and Padilla only 1 in 7 and 1/3 innings(He was removed when Overbay broke up the no-hitter bid). The game was opened up with Andruw Jones's 2nd homer of the year in the 7th, the door was removed from it's hinges in the 8th the Blue Jays scored one in the 8th but Fransisco produced a 1-2-3 9th to make sure we weren't swept.

April 24th-27th

Game 1, Att: 40,825

Not a game for young pitchers to watch for pitching tips. Scott Thorman got the ball rolling with his 1st homer for the Rangers in the 3rd and Kinsler chipped in with a 2 home run game which put the game beyond doubt. Kinsler's 1st homer came in the 6th with 1 on the 2nd was a solo shot in the 8th. Freel hit his 1st homer of the year with one on in the 9th but that was it for the Orioles.

Game 2, Att: 39,664

A tight game that could've gone either way. The Orioles had their chance to win it in the 8th when Hammel and Storp combined to load the bases and walked in a run, but Perez who hasn't pitched at his best since joining us managed to get out of the jam. Marakais hit the only homer of the game in the 6th for his 4th of the year.

Game 3, Att: 39,010

Another game that could've gone either way, but I guess when you've become used to winning you have the edge in the close games. McCarthy was 1 out away from a shut out but the last hitter Scott drove in a run but was thrown out going for 3rd to end the game.

Game 4, Att: 37,646

I've put a request in to see if we can play the Orioles from now until the end of the year. It was close until the 5th, Blalock hit his 3rd homer of the year with 2 on. Harrison pitched 6 and 1/3 inns without allowing a run, there was some drama in the 7th as once again the Orioles got the bases loaded but failed to take advantage of it. The Orioles did manage a 2 run homer in the 8th from Jones, his 3rd of the year, but a 3 run top of the 9th from us firmly shut the door.
