As for the Mets,if they're going to win the division, they're going to really earn it.6 Road games against Pittsburgh and St Louis is a really tough haul.My feeling is that the Cards are going to pull this out.In the AL,Minnesota has shown some real resiliency as of late, and I think they'll hold on.

Vs.

Game One - Red Sox-4 Twins-0
Game one of the ALCS saw Boston starter Bruce Hurst dominate the visiting Twins, twirling 7 and a third scoreless innings while allowing 4 hits and striking out 12,as the Red Sox jumped out to an early 1-0 series lead with today's 4-0 shutout victory.Rich Gedman and Wade Boggs led the way offensively, with Gedman going 3 for 4 with 2 doubles,2 RBI and a run scored, and Boggs going 3 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored.Reliever Steve Crawford pitched a perfect inning and two thirds to get the save.Mike Smithson took the loss for Minnesota

Game Two- Twins-2 Red Sox-1
In a tremendous pitching duel,Twins starter John Butcher allowed 1 run on 3 hits and a walk while striking out 2 over 8 innings pitched to get the best of Boston starter Roger Clemens, who allowed 2 runs on 7 hits while striking out 9 over 8 innings pitched,as Minnesota squeaked by the Red Sox 2-1,evening the series at one game apiece.RF Tom Brunansky was the offensive hero for the Twins, thanks to a 7th inning solo homer which proved to be the game winner.Reliever Ron Davis collected the save.

Game Three- Twins-3 Red Sox-0
Here at The Metrodome for game three, the Minnesota Twins once again got shutdown pitching, this time from Frank Viola, who pitched 8 shutout innings, allowing 3 hits while walking 3 and striking out 7 as Minnesota grabbed a 2-1 series lead with today's 3-0 victory over Oil Can Boyd and the Red Sox.Leading the way offensively for the Twins were Kent Hrbek and Randy Bush, who had two hits and an RBI each.CF Kirby Puckett added an RBI sac fly.

Game Four- Twins-4 Red Sox-3
Mark Salas' RBI single in the bottom of the 8th inning was the difference in the ballgame,as the Minnesota Twins took a commanding 3-1 series lead with today's stunning 4-3 victory over the Boston Red Sox.Salas, was tremendous all game, going 3 for 4 with a double,an RBI and a run scored,as he,along with Gary Gaetti and Dave Engle provided some much needed back of the order offense.Gaetti, had two hits including a home run,an RBI and 2 runs scored, while Engle added two hits and 2 RBI.

Game Five- Twins-2 Red Sox-1
Mark Salas' two run home run in the bottom of the 7th inning, one of only two Minnesota hits, turned out to be the difference maker,as the Twins defeated the Boston Red Sox 2-1,to win the series 4 games to 1 and head to their first World Series since 1965! Starting pitcher John Butcher was fantastic once again, pitching 7 innings of shutout ball, while allowing 5 hits and 2 walks with 2 strikeouts, earning himself his 2nd win of the series.Reliever Frank Eufemia was shaky in the 9th,allowing 2 hits and a run,but with two outs and a runner on 2nd,Eufemia induced a Tony Phillips ground out to end the series.Boston starter Roger Clemens was spectacular in defeat, going the distance while allowing just 2 runs on 2 hits with 2 walks and 10 strikeouts, but one big mistake cost him the ballgame.

Championship Series
Vs.

Game One- Cardinals-3 Dodgers-2
In a wonderfully played ballgame between two great teams, the St Louis Cardinals slipped past the Los Angeles Dodgers by the score of 3-2,thanks to a 9th inning RBI single by LF Lonnie Smith,on his third hit of the day.Smith was a thorn in the side of LA all day, going 3 for 4 with 3 stolen bases,an RBI and two runs scored. On the mound, starting pitcher Danny Cox allowed just 2 runs(1 earned) on 7 hits and 2 walks while striking out 5 over 8 innings pitched to get the win.Closer Jeff Lahti set the Dodgers down in order in the 9th to earn the save. For the Dodgers, relief pitcher Brian Holton wasted a fine performance by starter Fernando Valenzuela, allowing a run on a hit and a walk in just one third of an inning pitched.

Game Two- Dodgers-6 Cardinals-3
In a game that the Dodgers needed to have, starting pitcher Orel Hershiser came through big time, holding the Cardinals to just 2 runs on 4 hits while walking 2 and striking out 4 over 8 innings pitched, while on offense,CF Candy Maldonado stole the show, going 4 for 5 with 3 doubles,2 RBI and 2 runs scored.Closer Tom Niedenfuer collected the save.

Game Three- Cardinals-7 Dodgers-3
Shifting to St Louis for game 3,the Cardinals overwhelmed the Dodgers with their speed, easily winning the game 7-3.LF Vince Coleman was the game's catalyst, going 4 for 4 with a triple,3 RBI,2 runs scored and a stolen base.CF Willie McGee added an RBI triple and a stolen base, while catcher Darrell Porter added the exclamation point with a solo homer in the 5th.Cardinals starter Joaquin Andujar was by far the better pitcher today, allowing 3 runs(1 earned) on 8 hits over 7 and two thirds innings pitched.

Game Four- Cardinals-4 Dodgers-3
For the second time in this series,Cardinals starter Danny Cox outpitched the Dodgers Fernando Valenzuela as St Louis moved to within a game of their second World Series in 4 years with today's 4-3 victory over the Dodgers.1B Jack Clark, continued his fantastic series, going 2 for 3 with 2 homers,3 RBI and 2 runs scored, upping his average to .385

Game Five- Cardinals-7 Dodgers-5
Using a balanced offensive attack, the Cardinals jumped out to a huge 6-2 lead after 5 innings of play, but the Dodgers stormed back, scoring twice in the 7th and once in the 8th,closing the gap to 6-5,but in the bottom of the 8th,Cardinals SS Ozzie Smith landed the kill shot, singling home Jack Clark,to give the Cardinals a 7-5 victory and a date with destiny against the upstart Minnesota Twins in the 1985 World Series! Starting pitcher John Tudor battled his way through 8 innings, allowing 5 runs on 9 hits before giving way to closer Jeff Lahti, who ended the game and the series by striking out R.J. Reynolds looking.

Vs.

Game One- Twins-5 Cardinals-3
RBI doubles by Ron Washington and Tom Brunansky followed by a monster 3 run homer by Kent Hrbek all in the first three innings, was too much for the Cardinals to overcome,as the Minnesota Twins took game one of the 1985 World Series 5-3 here at The Metrodome.Starting pitcher Frank Viola was more than good enough to win, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks while fanning 6 over 7 and a third innings pitched,Ron Davis got the save.

Game Two- Twins-9 Cardinals-5
Catcher Mark Salas went 2 for 4 with 2 doubles,3 RBI and 2 runs scored, while RF Tom Brunansky went 2 for 5 with a home run,3 RBI and a run scored,as Minnesota powered their way past the Cardinals by the score of 9-5,giving Minnesota 5 straight wins at home this post season.

Game Three- Twins-5 Cardinals-3
Trailing 2-0 after four, the Twins exploded four 4 runs in the 5th,getting a two run single by Ron Washington followed by RBI singles by Tom Brunansky and Kent Hrbek,as Minnesota put a strangle hold on the series with today's 5-3 victory over the fading Cardinals.Starting pitcher John Butcher collected his third win of this post season, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits over 8 innings pitched,Ron Davis picked up the save, his 5th.

Game Four- Cardinals-6 Twins-5 (15 Innings)
Tied at 5-5 after 7 innings of play, neither team would score again until the 15th,where Cardinals SS Ozzie Smith saved the season, with a walk off RBI double off of Twins reliever Tippy Martinez giving St Louis a dramatic 6-5 victory over the Twins.Lonnie Smith once again came through big time for the Cards, going 2 for 4 with a double,a triple,a stolen base,3 walks,2 RBI and 3 runs scored,Smith is batting .474 this post season.

Game Five- Twins-3 Cardinals-1
Gary Gaetti,Mark Salas, and Alvero Espinoza each had two hits and an RBI,while starting pitcher Mike Smithson twirled a fantastic ballgame, allowing a run on 6 hits and a walk, while striking out 5 over 7 and two thirds innings pitched as the Minnesota twins became the 1985 World Series Champions with a 3-1 victory over the St Louis Cardinals, winning the series 4 games to 1.Tippy Martinez, the loser in yesterday's ballgame came back strong today, holding the Cardinals hitless over the final inning and a third,to lockdown the franchise's second ever championship, and first since Walter Johnson led the then Washington Senators past the New York Giants in 1924.
