In order to get this thing moving at a better pace,I've decided to make a slight change to the format.Rather than having a game of the day,I'm going to have 2 "Series Spotlights" a week.Along with the usual news, leaders, and other interesting tidbits. This week's spotlights will be on these two great series:
Tigers at Angels(early week) Dodgers At Mets(late week) |

"I hope so" said Tom,"I know I have a long road ahead of me,but I really want that 300th win.You can bet I'll do everything I can to get back on that field for my 20th season" We're rooting for you Tom! For his career,Seaver has a record of 293-184,with a sparkling career ERA of 2.80 and 3,437 strikeouts.Other career highlights include:1967 Rookie Of The Year 3 time Cy Young award winner(1969,1973,1975) 12 time all-star 1 World Series Championship(1969) |

May 27th-Dodgers-3 Mets-1
Trailing 1-0 entering the top of the 9th,the Dodgers rallied, getting a two run double from Mariano Duncan followed by an RBI single by Ralph Bryant to take a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the 9th where LA closer Tom Niedenfuer was perfect once again, striking out Lenny Dykstra to end the game and lock up his 12th save of the season in the 3-1 Dodger victory.Getting the win for the Dodgers was starter Bob Welch(7-1) who allowed 1 unearned run on 5 hits over 8 innings pitched. He also walked 1 and struck out 7.For the Mets, starting pitcher Ron Darling allowed just 4 hits and 3 walks while fanning 7 over 8 shutout innings and was in line for the win before reliever Roger McDowell(0-1) blew the save in ugly fashion. With the series sweep, the Dodgers now take a 6 and a half game lead on 2nd place Cincinnati in the West, while the Mets fall a game behind first place Chicago. MLB News And Notes The Chicago Cubs and closer Lee Smith have come to terms on a 3 year contract extension worth a total of $4,110,000 over the life of the contract, both parties were ecstatic about the deal.So far this year,Smith has been just incredible, racking up 14 saves in 18.1 IP with a 0.98 ERA and 11 punch outs. Yankees RF Dave Winfield saw his 22 game hitting streak come to a crashing halt today,as the A's defeated the Yankees 4-2,while holding Winfield to an 0 for 3 day. Don Sutton, the venerable 40 year old starter of the Oakland A's will be sticking around another year, thanks to the signing today of a one year extension worth around $570,000 In a bit of a stunner, the California Angels have shipped 39 year old slugger Reggie Jackson to the Texas Rangers in exchange for 29 year old fireballer Greg Harris. The trade is pending both players passing a physical. In the type of trade that gets GM's fired, the Kansas City Royals have shipped 34 year old LF Jorge Orta to the New York Mets in exchange for little used reliever Randy Niemann.Fans in KC are reportedly in an uproar over the move. Mariners 1B Kenny Phelps has been suspended 4 games by the League for his criticizing of home plate umpire Steve Palermo following today's loss against the Tigers. Injuries Of Note Astros CF Jerry Mumphrey has a mildly strained right oblique and will be out from 1-2 weeks. Mariners SS Spike Owen has a grade I oblique strain and will be out of action for 2-3 weeks.
