Baltimore Tied for First

Finally, 1B Rodrigo Luna is hitting .407. It is this outstanding offense that has lifted Baltimore into a tie for first with the Philadelphia Keystones.

Standings through June 30, 1872

Code:
Team W L PCT GB
Baltimore Canaries 9 5 .643 -

Boston Red Stockings 8 6 .571 1.0
Cincinnati Reds 8 6 .571 1.0

For the second month in a row, Robinson has won the Pitcher of the Month award. He went 4-1 in June with a 2.40 ERA in 5 starts.

Batter of the Month
3B Roberto Carrillo - Cincinnati Reds

Carrillo earned Batter of the Month honors by hitting .500 with 7 RBIs and 5 runs scored.

Rookie of the Month
3B Pete Fleming - Chicago White Stockings

Pete Fleming went 3 for 5 on 6/10 and for some reason that prompted the Buffalo Bisons to trade the young 3B to the White Stockings. That didn't prevent him from going 9 for 20, with 5 RBIs earning him the Rookie of the Month award.

Franco Hitting Streak Watch
Chicago White Stockings
RF Ricardo Franco

Chicago RF Ricardo Franco has kept his hitting streak alive through June, extending it to 29 games!

Philadelphia Pulls Even With Baltimore

September 1, 1872

Capitalizing on the Canaries' 2-2 month, the Keystones pulled into a 1st place tie by winning 3 of 4 in August. Baltimore and Philadelphia have a 3 game lead on the rest of the league with 6 games to play.

Standings through August 31, 1872

Code:
Team W L PCT GB
Baltimore Canaries 14 8 .636 -
Philadelphia Keystones 14 8 .636 -
Boston Red Stockings 11 11 .500 3.0
Cincinnati Reds 11 11 .500 3.0
New York Mutuals 11 11 .500 3.0
Chicago White Stockings 10 12 .455 4.0
Washginton Nationals 9 13 .409 5.0
Buffalo Bisons 8 14 .364 6.0

Pitcher of the Month
SP Dan Hughes - Philadelphia Keystones

This 38 year old is showing the young guys how to get it done. With his 3-1 record in August, Hughes was a major contributor towards Philadelphia's return to the top of the standings.

Batter of the Month
C Doug Sharman - Baltimore Canaries

Sharman has come out of no where to claim August's Batter of the Year Award. He started the season 6 for 30 before going 9 for 17 this month. He also scored 4 runs.

Rookie of the Month
LF Jaime Valentin - Chicago White Stockings

It's back to back months for Valentin. He earned himself another RotM award by hitting .500 in August.

Keystones Skipper receives Manager Award After Turn Around Season

Philadelphia Keystones
Manager Ron Kirk

There was little surprise when Ron Kirk of the Philadelphia Keystones was named Manager of the Year. After the Keystones finished 9-19 in 1871, they followed it up with a 17-12 campaign in 1872. This turn around helped Kirk win the award.

Baltimore Loses Star CF in Free Agency

December 28, 1872

Buffalo Bisons
CF Bob Schultz

One of the key pieces of Baltimore's championship team has signed a free agent contract with the Buffalo Bisons. Bob Schultz leaves the championship team hoping to help climb to the top of the standings. This signing comes as a surprise since the Buffalo franchise is still up for sale.

Special thanks goes to No Pepper, acetonic, fhomess, and Deft. Their historical jersey and cap work led to me being able to create jerseys and caps for my dynasty.

April 1873 in The Books!

May 1, 1873

Through the first month of the season, no one in the ABC has shown to be the dominant team. Only 2 games separate all of the teams after 8 games.

Standings through April 30, 1873

Code:
Team W L PCT GB
Baltimore Canaries 5 3 .625 -
Brooklyn Atlantics 5 3 .625 -
New York Mutuals 5 3 .625 -
Boston Red Stockings 4 4 .500 1.0
Chicago White Stockings 4 4 .500 1.0
Cincinnati Reds 3 5 .375 2.0
Philadelphia Keystones 3 5 .375 2.0
Washington Nationals 3 5 .375 2.0
Rookie of the Month
CF Lloyd Drew - Cincinnati Reds

Drew hit .412 this month and had 5 runs batted in on his way to the Rookie of the Month award.

Pitcher of the Month
SP Jonathan Starr - New York Mutuals

Starr not only had a good Opening Day, he continued his winning ways the rest of the month. He went 4-0, with a 1.23 ERA in April.

Batter of the Month
CF Mike Elmore - New York Mutuals

Looks like Mike Elmore is giving it his all this year since he could be a free agent at the end of the year. Elmore hit .400, knocked in 6 runs and scored 8 times to win the Batter of the Month for April.
