American Baseball Congress
The American Baseball Congress is a fictional-historical league that starts in 1871. All settings have been imported for 1871 and league totals will adjust each year for historical accuracy.
This is the story of the ABC as it happens. Enjoy! Last edited by spleen1015; 10-17-2009 at 04:56 PM. |

ABC Announces Inaugural Draft 1st Round Selections!!
January 2, 1871 Today the ABC held the 1871 Inaugural Draft. Along with announcing the 1st round picks, each team's uniforms were unveiled. The Chicago White Stockings started the show selecting our first hitter of the day. CF Randy Newman is 27 years old from McAllen, Texas. He's going to be one of the top offensive players in the league. With the second selection, the Washington Nationals selected the first of what is sure to be a group of dominant starting pitchers. SP Greg Berry is a 22 year old from Saugerties, New York. No doubt Washington wanted to get their pitching staff started on the right foot.Picking third, we have the Baltimore Canaries. Following in the footsteps of Washington, they decide to select a starting pitcher. SP Rick Sawyer is another youngster at 22 years old. The Canaries hope he can anchor their rotation for many years to come.Next up at fourth, we have the Boston Red Stockings selection. C Matt Lane is a 22 year year old from Queens, New York. This young man will be one of the better catchers we see in the ABC.With the fifth selection, the Philadelphia Keystones decide pitching wins games and they select the third starting pitching of the round. SP Sergio Gonzalez comes from North Carolina. This 27 year old should get the Keystones off to a good start. The New York Mutuals continue the starting pitcher trend with the sixth selection. SP Ernesto Rodriguez is 22 years old. He grew up out west in Washington. No doubt this youngster will lead the Mutuals to a few wins.Starting Pitching is in high demand! With the seventh pick, the Buffalo Bisons select another one! SP Rick Frank comes from sunny Florida. Being 27 years old, he should give the Bisons many years of service. The Cincinnati Reds have the final selection of Round 1. With no surprise, they select a starting pitcher. SP Bernardo Sandoval is 27 years old, joining the ABC from Arizona. Cincinnati hopes the #6 starting pitcher turns out to be the best! |

Chicago and Washington Stay Strong
July 1, 1871 Chicago and Washington stayed with their winning ways, both going 4 and 1 in June. The New York Mutuals didn't stay at the top for long after they went 1 and 4. Behind a 3 and 2 month, the Canaries of Baltimore move up to 3rd place. Code:
Team W L PCT GB Chicago White Stockings 10 4 .714 - Washington Nationals 10 4 .714 - Baltimore Canaries 8 6 .571 2.0 Boston Red Stockings 7 7 .500 3.0 New York Mutuals 7 7 .500 3.0 Cincinnati Reds 6 8 .429 4.0 Buffalo Bisons 4 10 .286 6.0 Philadelphia Keystones 4 10 .286 6.0 So far this season, each team has played 14 games. There are 2 players that have hit safely in each of those games, 3B Errol Greene of the Baltimore Canaries and Patrick Stanley of the Washington Nationals. Greene and Stanley ![]() ![]() Batter of the Month 3B John Hendricks - Buffalo Bisons ![]() John Hendricks earns his Buffalo Bisons team some press by winning the Batter of the Month award for June 1871. Hendricks went 12 for 22, knocking in 6 runs and scoring 5 times. Pitcher of the Month SP Walton Webster - Chicago White Stockings ![]() Webster has another dominating month in June. Webster helped his White Stockings team stay in first place by going 4-1, with a 2.09 ERA. Bouncing back from a sub par May, Webster is 10-3, compiling a 3.31 so far this season. Thanks, bosunmate! I had this idea in mind for when OOTPX came out. I finally acted on it today. I'm not in control of any of the teams. I'm just a spectator like you! |

I'm enjoying this story a lot. How well do you think OOTPX simulates nineteenth-century baseball? I still haven't bought it; I'm enjoying OOTP8, and I confess I'm a little skittish about converting my existing dynasties.
Anyway, keep up the good work.

Unfortunately, I'm not a pre-1900 expert. I did a little bit of testing a few weeks ago to test out my setup and I didn't see anything out of whack. Maybe some of the more serious pre-1900 simmers could find issues, but I'm happy with what I've seen so far. If you're enjoying what you have with OOTP8, maybe there's no reason to switch. As long as your happy, ya know. ![]() Thanks for reading! |

Washington's Farley Named Manager of the Year
October 21, 1871 Washington Nationals Manager Bill Farley ![]() It comes as no surprise that Bill Farley was named 1871 Manager of the Year. After leading the Washington Nationals to the inaugural ABC championship, Farley was the obvious choice for Manager of the Year. Last edited by spleen1015; 10-18-2009 at 11:51 AM. |
