Living History - A historical (mostly) dynasty

Hey folks. I did a dynasty a few years back that died because I tried to be waaaay too detailed with the information I was posting. Feel free to search for posts that I've made to see this.

Well... I've got another dynasty going. This one's also historical, and I'm still the Boston/Milwaukee/Atlanta Beaneaters/Doves/Braves/et al. I'm going to be posting in a much different fashion with this one, pretty much just posting when something interesting happens to pop up. I'm in the 10th year on this one, having started in 1901. I'm going to encourage the community to make requests for information on this one to keep it active, since my idea of interesting doesn't necessarily equal what everybody else finds interesting.

First off, the ground rules for this one.

I'm running it in commish mode and can't be fired.
I have a very deep feeder league setup, with 2 Subleagues and 10, 10-team divisions with random names in each subleague.
ReCalc is off
Players from the feeder leagues are competing with the historical players.
The amateur draft is 60 rounds
I'm only patched to 10.4.29 to this point.
Edit: I have patched to 10.4.31 now.

I am considering renaming the college feeder league teams in stages... I'm a U of Oregon fan, so the Pac-10 is likely to make an appearance in 1911.

Again, if anybody's got questions, favorite players they want looked up, who played 1B for Brooklyn in 1906, who was the number one pick in the draft, etc., please ask, and I'll post the answer for you.

This one will be going past the current season, so we'll even have some future baseball involved.

Next post will have the World Series teams from 1901-1909.

Now for the interesting... <grin>

Boston Doves LF Chris Hughes set the MLB record in 1910 with a 38-game hitting streak. The previous record of 30 had been set by Lave Cross of the Philadelphia A's in 1902, and matched by Detroit Tigers 2B Vincent Armstrong in 1907. The previous Doves record had been 27 games, set by 2B/SS Anthony Crawford in 1905.

Manny Morales of the New York Highlanders is the only Triple Crown winner so far. He led the AL with .326 average, 5 homers and 77 RBI in 1906.

Lots of information in this post. First off, Boston Doves LF Chris Hughes has won the 1910 NL batting title with a .343 average.

Also, the 1910 World Series matchups have been set, with the Boston Doves taking on the Washington Senators to determine who will be the world champions.

Other Doves players among the league leaders:

1B Chang-lit Zhang finished 2nd in RBI with 71.
LF Chris Hughes also led the league in OPS with an .881 mark.
Christy Mathewson tied for the lead in wins with 26.
Walter Johnson led the league in K's with 241.
Hughes also led the league in triples with 15.
Ted Easterly set a major league record for strikeouts by a hitter with 132.

Other records to fall this year:

Chicago White Sox pitcher Jimmy Garrison set the single-season saves mark with 25. Rube Kroh tied the previous record of 19 this year as well. Joe Harris had set the mark last year.

The Washington Senators won the 1910 World Series in seven games over the Boston Doves. Washington won the first three games before allowing Boston to storm back to tie the series, setting up a game seven in Washington. The Senators clinched the series with an 8-3 win, scoring 5 runs in the 7th inning to put the game away.

Boston Doves pitcher Chief Bender won his 200th game today. Bender may well be the fastest player to reach the milestone, as he turned 27 less than a week ago. Bender achieved the milestone with a 5-2 complete game win over Cincinnati. Bender now has a career record of 200-130. He also currently holds the Major League record with a 1.98 career ERA, capped by a single-season record of 1.18 in 1907.

Chief Bender of the Boston Rustlers tossed a no-hitter against the Cincinnati Reds. This is the first no-no of Bender's illustrious career. The final score was 4-0, Boston. Bender has come close to no-hitters on two prior occasions, once in 1905, and again in 1907. This was the first no-hitter pitched since Brent St. John of the Phillies bamboozled the Giants in May of 1910. St. John had also pitched the no-hitter previous to that, with a blanking of the Cubs at the end of the 1909 season.

Washington overcame the early loss of CF Tris Speaker and a 3-1 deficit to win the 1911 World Series over the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games. This was the second straight appearance and victory, and the third appearance in four years for the Senators. This was the third appearance for the Cardinals.

The Boston Braves selected catcher Wally Schang with the first pick in this year's Amateur Draft. Schang will immediately become the starter for the Braves, as catcher has been something of a weak spot for Boston this year. Starter Ivey Wingo went down with a sprained knee 3 days prior to the draft. Schang is considered to be the more talented player by Boston's scouting and management staff, so Wingo will be relegated to backup duty when he returns from the DL in 4 weeks.
