New York Mets
Here I will be writing about managing the New York Mets during the 2009 season and beyond. I have everything set like the majors except trading and injury frequency is at very low because I've played other seasons set at normal and I didn't like how for example the Mariners traded Ken Griffey Jr. to the Indians 20 games into the season. I would like to maybe be a sportswriter when I grow up so please give me feedback. Here goes!

Mets promote Lambert to general manager position by Harry Jackson After Omar Minaya's suprising resignation yesterday, the New York Mets have named assistant general manager Jack Lambert as their new director of baseball operations. Lambert, a noted sabermetric, becomes the youngest general manager ever at age 24. He graduated from Georgia Tech in 2006 with degrees in finance and statistics. He also pitched for the schools baseball team and was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 33rd round but chose to be an intern in the Mets front office. When asked about his predictions for the upcoming season he said "We've got a good strong core and some nice supporting players that will take us a long way. I plan to make some shuffles in the farm system, and with our core and some of our prospects I believe we can make a good team for years to come." The Mets season starts on Monday on the road against the Cincinnati Reds. Last edited by Jackbert; 11-22-2009 at 09:27 AM. |

Mets Sign DePodesta as minor league manager by Harry Jackson The Mets confirmed a one year contract with former Los Angeles Dodgers general manager Paul DePodesta. DePodesta will manage the GCL Mets and serve is special assistant to Jack Lambert. Most famous for his role in Moneyball, the book about the Oakland A's by Michael Lewis, DePodesta was A's GM Billy Beane's assistant general manager from 2001-2004. Lambert says "Paul has a unique and effective way of evaluating amateurs and minor leaguers and I feel he will be a big help to me and the rest of the front office. Plus he will help the young drafted players into becoming good major leaguers." DePodesta was fired from his position with the Dodgers after a underachieving 71-91 season in 2005. He and Beane were known for embracing on-base percentage, leading the A's to a successful run, winning 102 and 103 games in 2001 and 2002 respectfully and AL West titles in 2002 and 2003. The A's were eliminated in the division series in all years. |

Santana pitches six strong innings, chips in with bat too by Harry Jackson After his 7 K's last night, Johan Santana is fourth in the NL in K's. That's not an aberration. Since his 2004 Cy Young breakout season, Santana has been arguably the best pitcher in the game. What's unusual is that Santana is also fourth in the Senior Circuit in batting average. Santana threw 6 strong innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits last night. He also went 2-3 with a RBI. Pretty good for a guy who entered the game with a career average of .174. Carlos Beltran started the Mets three run sixth with a leadoff triple, and Volquez was chased when Ryan Church hit a 2-run double in the seventh to make it 7-2. Volquez lasted 6.1 innings, allowing 12 hits. All of his 7 runs were earned. Alex Gonzalez and Joey Votto bashed long balls for the Reds, but to waste. J.J. Putz pitched 2 innings to end it and the Mets won 7-3. Last edited by Jackbert; 11-22-2009 at 05:59 PM. |

Mets lose, Cincy cruise by Harry Jackson When you only get 3 hits you usually lose. When you allow 11 runs too, you always lose. Joey Votto, Edwin Encarnacion, Chris Dickerson, and Jerry Hairston Jr. homered and Aaron Harang went 6 scoreless as the Mets got crushed 11-0. The Reds top four went 11-19 with 2 2B, 2 HR,9 ribbies, and 10 R. Encarnacion knocked in 5, 3 on his 6th inning homer of Pedro Feliciano. There's a reason managers put their best hitters at the top of the lineup. For the Mets, John Maine only lasted 2 innings, allowing 5 runs, 4 earned. But New York had one upside. Francisco Rodriguez made his Mets debut with a 2 K perfect inning. When asked about his start Maine said "I just stunk. That's all." Last edited by Jackbert; 11-22-2009 at 06:51 PM. |

Chicago Tribune, Thursday, 4/09/09
Konerko hits 300th dinger by Nick James He started with the Dodgers and Reds hitting .214 with 7 homers in 224 at-bats from 1997-1998. He broke out 1999 hitting .294 with 24 bombs with the White Sox, the team he's been with ever since. He played well from 2000-2002, batting .294 with an average of 27 taters and an even 100 RBI's a season. He slumped in 2003, only hitting .234 with 18 homers. He had MVP caliber numbers from 2004-2006, batting .291 with an average of 39 big flies and 117 ribbie's. He declined in 2007 with a .259 average and 31 HR's and more in 2008 with a .240 average and 22 home runs. But last night, Chicago White Sox first baseman joined an exclusive club when he hit home runs number 299 and 300. "It feels awesome. It's just unbelievable. After '98 I was having doubts but my parents comvinced me to go on and look what happened. Thanks Mom and Pop!" |
