I'm thinking Bresnahan has ratings at quite a few positions, so don't be surprised it Elberfeld stays at short and Bresnahan finds himself behind the plate.

1905 - Year In Review
The American League saw a battle right from the opening bell as Cleveland jotted out to the early lead and held a 2.5-game lead on Memorial Day over St.Louis with the Highlanders 3 games back. As the season wore on though, Cleveland's all around team took control and had built the lead to 11.5 games over the Browns on Labor Day. St.Louis got hot but ran out of time in trying to catch the Bronchos as Cleveland nailed their first title with just under a week to go. The Bronchos were led by Mike Donlin, a last minute free agent acquisition on opening day, as he batted .357 and drove in 95 runs as he was named the league's Outstanding Hitter Award winner. AL Rookie of the Year Award winner Nig Clarke batted .349 with 98 RBI to help the cause while a mound crew was led by the junior circuit's Outstanding Pitcher Award winner, Bob Wicker, who earned 25 wins, one of them a perfect game, and compiled a league-leading 2.19 ERA. St.Louis managed to finish in second place, 6 games behind, as hitters George Stone (.360 avg) and Wid Conroy (8 HR) led the attack with a pair of 20-game winners, Cy Morgan (23) and Jim Buchanan (22) on the hill. While defending AL champs Detroit faultered and limped home in 4th place, 17 games back, an important event took place as a young Ty Cobb took the field for the first time and batted .302.
In the National League, it seemed like business as usual as Pittsburgh, led by probably the league's best hitter Honus Wagner (.344), took the early lead but found themselves 3 games behind the St.Louis Cardinals on Labor Day. The Pirates came back to take a 3-game lead with 10 games remaining and then held off an on charging Cardinals team to pick up the pennant on the next-to-last day of the season. Besides having the league's Outstanding Hitter Award winning Wagner, they also were led by Cy Seymour (7 HR, 100 RBI) and pitching aces Deacon Phillippe (23 wins, 1.97 ERA) and Jack Chesbro (2.41 ERA). St.Louis kept within striking distance and finished in second place, 3 games back, behind the pitching of NL Outstanding Pitcher Award winner Rube Waddell, who collected his second pitching triple crown as he compiled 27 wins, a 1.79 ERA and fanned 341 hitters. The Chicago Cubs, led by the hitting of Bunk Congalton (.333 avg) and the arm of Jake Weimer (24 wins), finished in third place, 13 games behind the winning Bucs. The World Series was a back and forth affair as the teams split the first four games before Pittsburgh took a 3-2 game advantage thanks to the shutout pitching of Willie Sudhoff. Back in Cleveland for game six, the Bronchos pounded Pfiester for 10 runs in the first five innings to force a game seven. The high powered Bronchos, who led the AL with 852 runs, plated 5 in their half of the first inning off of Pirates' starter "Happy Jack" Chesbro to take a 5-2 lead then stretched it to 8-4 before a Pittsburgh comeback fell short as Cleveland wins the world's championship, 4 games to 3. 1906 - Year In Review
After a long drought in the NL city of St.Louis, winning a pennant was clearly within sight, thanks to the signings of free agents. The fans were hungry for a pennant, but it was always a bride's maid, never the bride. When victory finally rained in, it came down in buckets as not only the Cardinals, but also the Browns won the pennant. The Cardinals had grabbed the lead in the early going then fought back the Reds and the defending Pirates to clinch the NL title with 4 games remaining in the season. The bats of Sam Crawford (6 HR) and Jim Delahanty (82 RBI) led the attack but it was Rube Waddell, once again, leading the way as he won his third pitcher's triple crown as he tied for the league lead with 25 wins along with leading the league with a 1.86 ERA and whiffing 270. Sam Leever and Charlie Moran both were 20+ winners and "Three Finger" Brown rounded out the rotation with 18. The Pirates ended in second place, 3 games behind, thanks to the NL's Outstanding Hitter Award winner, Honus Wagner (.316 BA, 7 HR, 58 SB) and pitcher Jeff Pfiester (25 wins, 211 K). Cincinnati finished in third place, 5 games back, thanks to Fred Odwell (6 HR) and the arm of Bill Bernhard (24 wins, 1.90 ERA).
The St.Louis Browns won their league after being involved in a four team race up to midway through the final week and clinched on the next-to-last day. They did it thanks to the bats of George Stone (.321 BA, 41 SB), Branch Rickey (8 HR) and the AL's Outstanding Hitter Award winner John Anderson (.341-5-72) plus the arm of Cy Morgan (25 wins). The Boston Americans finished in a three-way tie for second place, a single game back, with catcher Ossee Schreckengost's .312 average and team leading 82 RBI leading the attack and 20-game winner Frank Kitson leading the mound crew. Defending AL champion Cleveland also finished in the tie for second with John Titus (.297 BA, 83 RBI) and Frank Chance (.299 BA, 52 SB) leading the way on offense and Otto Hess (1.95 ERA) on the mound. The Philadelphia Athletics round out the three-way tie and were led by Harry Davis (AL leading 13 HR and 110 RBI) and the AL's Outstanding Pitcher Award winner, Eddie Plank (26 wins, 1.74 ERA, 195 K) on the hill. The city of Saint Louis settled down to watch both of their teams in the World Series and saw the Cardinals outplay the Browns and swept them in four games. Code:

First off, how bout Turkey Donlin, unsigned going into 1905 and what does he do? Only hook up with Cleveland, win the MVP and lead his team to the World Series crown, before again being unceremoniously dumped and left without a team for the entire 1906 season? That's like a Behind The Music episode. 1906 What A Race In the Junior Circuit!!!! 4 teams within 1 game.

1907 - Year In Review
The city of Cleveland got its start in professional baseball in 1879 as tenants of the National League. The franchise lasted until 1884 and was without a team until a new version of the Cleveland Blues entered the American Association in 1887 then it became known as the Cleveland Spiders when the franchise entered the NL in 1889. The illfated Players League created a franchise in Cleveland named the Infants but the team only lasted one season. The Cleveland Spiders lasted until 1899 when the senior circuit abandoned the city when the NL cut back from 12 to 8 teams. Ban Johnson jumped at the chance and a placed a brand new version of the Blues in Cleveland in 1901 when the American League became a major league. The franchise was a perennial first division team and won the pennant back in 1905. After nearly missing repeating as AL champs last season, here they were again looking to contend for the title. After a slow start in which the Bronchos found themselves in last place, 11 games behind the front running Athletics, at the beginning of June then got hot and grabbed the lead by the beginning of August. Cleveland held back threats by the Tigers and the White Sox and won its second AL title with three games remaining in the regular season. The Bronchos were led again by a mound corps that included Charlie Smith (25 wins, 1.80 ERA) and Addie Joss (21 wins, 2.24 ERA). Chicago finished in second place, 2 games behind, thanks to the bat of Dave Brain (8 HRs, 79 RBI) and the arm of spitball master Big Ed Walsh, the AL's Outstanding Pitcher Award winner after a season in which he led the junior circuit in ERA (1.48) and wins (28) while finishing 2nd in the league in strikeouts (209). The Detroit Tigers, led by the league's Outstanding Hitter Award winner, Ty Cobb (.327-6-66, 37 SB) and Bob Ganley (.322 BA), ended the season in third place, 4 games behind Cleveland.
The National League witnessed the continuing domination at the top of the standings by the Pittsburgh Pirates, who won their 4th pennant in five seasons as they survived a tight race all season long with the Phllies and the Cardinals and clinched the title on the next-to-last day of the season. The Bucs were led once again by the bat of the NL's Outstanding Hitter Award winning Honus Wagner (.320-6-61, 41 SB) and Cy Seymour (7 HRs). St.Louis was once again runners up as they finished in second place, 2 games behind, behind the bats of Sam Crawford (NL leading .324 BA and 70 RBI) and Ed Konetchy (7 HRs) and the pitching of Rube Waddell (23 wins, NL leading 1.36 ERA and 257 Ks), who once again was awarded the league's Outstanding Pitcher Award. Philadelphia, with Dan McGann and Fred "Ossie" Osborn each driving in 70 runs, finished in third place, 3 games behind, and were led on the mound by a pair of 18-game winners, Ed Killian and Doc White. Pitching dominated the World Series this year as the teams split the opening two games in Cleveland before the Bronchos took 2 of 3 in Pittsburgh to take a 3 games to 2 lead back to League Park. Unheralded pitcher Gus Dorner won two games, including the world's championship game 6 clincher. Code:

1908 - Year In Review
In the American League, the Detroit Tigers, who hadn't had a pennant winner since 1904, overcame a mid-season slump to chalk up its third title. The St.Louis Browns held a 2.5 game lead over both the Bengals and the Red Sox at the beginning of July before Detroit overtook them by the end of the month then pulled away and clinched the title with half a week remaining as the Browns continued to nosedive and the Bosox couldn't get any closer than 4 games. The Tigers showed some strong teeth with Ty Cobb leading the way as he won the first hitter's Triple Crown by leading the AL in average (.346), home runs (9) and RBIs (84). Detroit also showed some good claws with a pitching staff aced by 20-game winners Ed Summers and Bugs Raymond. The Boston Red Sox ended the season in second place, 4 games behind, led by the hitting of Doc Gessler (.328 BA) and the arms of 20-game winners Frank Arellanes (24), Harry Howell (23) and Elmer Steele (23), the league's Outstanding Pitcher and Rookie of the Year Awards winner. The Washington Senators emerged from their normal second division finish and ended the season in third place, 12 games behind. They were led by the power bat of Art Shaw (5 HR) and the pitching of up-and-coming ace Walter Johnson (AL leading 191 strikeouts).
The National League finally had another team wrestle the pennant out of the grasps of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The New York Giants ended a 6-year stretch by going from start to finish and clinched the title with less than a week remaining. Sam "Wahoo" Crawford led the way offensively as he led MLB in both home runs (10) and RBIs (88) with the Outstanding Pitcher Award winner Red Ames (27 wins, 1.79 ERA, 250 K) and the NL's Rookie of the Year Award winner Doc Crandall (24 wins, 2.04 ERA) leading the mound corps. The defending champion Pirates, winners of 4 out of last 5 NL titles, finished in second place, 7 games behind, with Cy Seymour (7 HR) and Johnny Kling (76 RBI) leading the way. The Brooklyn Superbas ended up in third place, 15 games behind, thanks to the arm of the "Christian Gentleman", Christy Mathewson, who won 20+ games and led the majors in ERA (1.64). The World Series proved to be a pitcher's haven once again. New York's Red Ames and George Ferguson both shut out Detroit in games 1 and 2 by 3-0 and 7-0 respectively with Ames allowing 4 hits and Ferguson only 2. The Giants scored 4 runs in the 9th inning of game three to pull out a 5-3 win at Bennett Park. The Tigers managed to avoid being swept by scoring a run in the bottom of the 9th to win game four, 5-4 but Red Ames came back in game five and out dueled Detroit starter Eddie Cicotte, 2-1 to win the World Series, 4 games to 1.
