Mage League Bloodball
Since we can input Facegen images of various fantasy races, a baseball league with fantasy races can become a reality.
In the early planning stages of my dynasty is Mage League Bloodball. Mage League Bloodball (MLB) has been formed in Hysterika with eight founding races – humans, orcs, dark elves, dwarves, ogres, halflings, elves and goblins. There are two leagues in the MLB – the Hysterikan League and the Irrational League. Each league has eight teams, each filled with players from only one race. The Hysterikan League (race ) - park New Orc Yanknecks (orcs) - Yankneck Stadium Bosstown Redpox (goblins) – Funslay Park Killerelfia Fatlickers (halflings) - Shiv Park Slashington Gnashnails (elves) – Gripit Stadium Screwloose Frowns (dwarves) - Wartman’s Park Quikargo Frightsox (dark elves) – Coldmisty Park Dathroat Tuskers (ogres) – Rigged Stadium Clevehand Insanes (humans) - Reek Park The Irrational League (race) - park New Orc Tyrants (goblins) – Pogo Grounds Quikargo Klubs (ogres)- Wiggley Field Sinsenasty Shreds (humans) - Crosseye Field Killerelfia Philbellies (dark elves) – Shiv Park Scewloose Bards (dwarves) - Wartman’s Park Bosstown Graves (elves) – Graves Field Piggsplurgh Pieplates (halflings)- Forbites Field There is the Weird Series –best of seven. Sounds ... interesting.
How will you account for the races' different abilities? Or will they all have the same skills with the races added as "flavour"?

That remains to be seen.
The OOTP creation modifiers will be different for each race at the minor league level. Each race will have a minor league with teams from only its own race to draft from. However, I don't think the initial rosters of MLB players can be different since the creation modifiers for them is the same. Of course you can have different nation baseball ratings too, so I will try to see what effect assigning a lower rating for halflings,a little higher for goblins, and so on. But that won't do too much to differentiate between races. If you know any way to make each race different at the major league level (stamina, speed, etc.), I'd appreciate any ideas anyone might have. |

This will be an interesting read, I'm sure. Are you going to mess with the injury file to make for especially bloody/violent incidents?

History of Bloodball Part 1
One remnant from “A Brief History of Hysterika and the Beginnings of Bloodball”
Dark Elf mariners discovered the previously unknown landmass that is now known as Hysterika that contained massive structures and other unusual marvels. Folk in the Old World scoffed at its existence, claimed the elves were hysterical, and thus, referred to this place as “Hysterika.” Some intrepid dwarves also brought back remnants from Hyseterika like an old smudged manuscript referring to the land as “the United ___ ates.” Now when the ever-ravenous Halflings heard the rumors about a country that was named after eats, these frenzied-halfmen offered themselves as cooks and shipmates to other races or built their own ocean-going craft. Now the other races doubtful as they were decided to check it out the reliability of these rumors and reports in person. They couldn’t afford to let the dark elves hog land or any newly-found wealth for themselves. Soon there was rush by the other races (orcs, ogres, elves, goblins and humans from the Empire) all eager to carve out parts of a new continent for themselves. What these first explorers and settlers found in Hysterika astounded them - an apparently well-developed world far exceeding their own in so many ways. It was unpopulated (Exterminated? Plague-struck?) but there were traces of a vastly populated continent as numerous skeletons were unearthed and examined – humanlike to the astonishment of the Imperials. There were moss- and vine-covered structures that pierced the sky and unusual vehicles - metal-covered wagons on wheels and metal “birds” with wings were strewn across the land. What is of importance to the origin of Bloodball was the discovery of huge arenas that, at first, resembled the gladiatorial-like coliseums of the Old World. Or were they religious edifices? All these arenas were similar. There was seating for thousands and a diamond –like pattern was etched into the ground. To some this indicated religious worship on a grand scale since all eyes of the faithful in the arena seemed to have been directed at an odd pentagon-shaped object in the dirt and lines met at this exact spot. However, there also seemed to be a militant face to these structures as racks of wooden clubs were stacked on both sides of the diamond. Perhaps they were used in the past for conducting mock battles or for inflicting punishment or death, and that was what brought the mobs to these strange sites. But a bored goblin shoveling though some rubble in the arena happened upon a number of perfectly-shaped balls covered in cowhide and stitched in blood-covered twine. Even to this dumb worker, it was clear that the place was a sporting arena and that some fantastic game involving balls was the center of all this attraction. But what sport was played and how? History of Bloodball Part 2
Another remnant from “A Brief History of Hysterika and the Beginnings of Bloodball”
… When the goblin realized what he had found, he ran to show his proud discovery and held the ball up proudly in the air. Meanwhile two groups were arguing loudly and gesturing threats towards each other on a small hill in the middle of the diamond-shape. One group of Imperial clerics including a bishop screamed, “It’s a cathedral or temple!” One pointed to a section of the field clearly labeled the Bullpen. “That’s where the minotaurs were held before their sacrifice to the gods.” The smug Imperial historians and academics jeered and insisted, “It’s an execution ground!” One gestured towards an area named the Dugout. “That’s the place where their bodies were disposed.” Clearly it was bad timing for the goblin to approach the two feuding groups, but goblins aren’t the sharpest tacks in the world, so shaking the ball in his hand, he blurted out anyway, “It’s a sports field for a ball game!” Well as one can imagine, neither group was particularly happy to hear its own theory questioned by a lowly dirt-digger no less, so members of both groups quickly sent their lackeys to get the clubs from the racks, and upon their return they unceremoniously battered the poor bugger to death. The ball was stained with the goblin’s own blood. One academic picked up the dripping ball and announced sarcastically, “And the game is called Bloodball!” as both sides laughed uproariously and momentarily forgot their own dispute. Then he threw the ball disdainfully away towards the dusty-white pentagon some distance away – a perfect strike as it turned out. But as would later be discovered, the goblin – rest his moldy green soul – was right after all! Nicodemus Dammenblatz, Imperial Historian Last edited by hawaiiansky; 04-25-2010 at 06:14 AM. |

History of Bloodball Part 3
Another scrap from “A Brief History of Hysterika and the Beginnings of Bloodball”
At the same archaeological site, news spread like wildfire that a “grubhouse” (a mistranslation as learned later) was found below the seats of the arena. A crew of always-hungry halfling diggers streamed into this new find in the hope of locating food stuffs. Ignoring the protests of a bored, lone guard, they quickly scavenged within the various rooms. Inside one were rows of strange metal boxes containing what looked like uniforms as they all looked nearly identical. Oversized leather gloves puzzled the easily confused halflings since there didn’t seem to be any pairs of them lying around. One starving digger tried to gnaw on one, but it was distasteful even to a halfling. Some began wearing the oddly-shaped hats and stole the shoes that had sharp nails imbedded on the bottom; these would come in handy in their frequent food fights. Another ventured inside a room where a square crystal-ball like object was placed inside a shiny box. The halfling realizing that there might be sorcery present was about to leave when he accidentally pressed his fingers against a rectangular object that had a variety of magical symbols written upon it. Immediately a picture was displayed on the crystal square … and amazingly it moved! The halfling was instantly mesmerized as it depicted a fantastic ball game played by humans using that strange collection of balls, bats and half a pair of gloves that the Imperials had already discovered. His comrades soon found their fellow digger inside the darkened room. Unbelievably they forgot their search for munchies and sat down in the rows of chairs and watched their first “Bloodball” game. It seemed very orderly until one man with a club was hit in his side by the bloodball ,and he rushed out with the club raised towards that little hill where the person who had flung it stood waiting, Before you knew it “players” from both sides of the arena poured out from the underground caverns and battled each other with fists. Black-cloaked vampire -like figures, one wearing an unusual mask, tried to stop the melee. Now this was a game worth playing thought the assembled halflings. And as it turned out, they were right too. Nicodemus Dammenblatz, Imperial Historian Last edited by hawaiiansky; 04-25-2010 at 06:54 PM. |

History of Bloodball Part 5
Another piece of the puzzle from “A Brief History of Hysterika and the Beginnings of Bloodball”
AS the fighting died down due to exhaustion of lives, the spending of gold and coin, and the lack of continued desire to hack and maim (now that was a surprise), the armies –its soldiers, sorcerers and mechanics -began to disperse to every part of Hysterika. The diverse leaders of the land realized that something must fill this void of purpose in their lives. Otherwise chaos (well, more chaos) would ensue. Some form of amusement was needed for the masses to adjust to the mostly peaceful existence. The greatest minds from the eight races met in a conclave in New Goregreen to discuss the matter. Since sharp minds was a prerequisite, it was a mighty small group that eventually gathered, a handful or two to be sure; the exact number is unknown because the scribe lost count using his fingers. When “the less than ten” group met, they presented various options, but a game, something like what had transfixed the masses in the Old World was the key, combined with something entirely new from Hysterika. They combed the records of the past that they had unearthed the past fifty years. There was not much really – the myth of the “bloodball,” the disputed purpose of the stadiums where it was supposed to have been played, and rumors of a vision of an actual game that some disreputable halflings had witnessed but had never reappeared again. By happenstance, a dwarfish scribe was poking through the scattered remains of a library up river in Misfitts when he tripped over a pile of rubble and stubbed his toe on an official looking book that depicted on its cover the very bloodball of legend! A gift from the gods for certain. Brought to his superiors, it was roughly translated by an Imperial wordsmith. Once its contents were revealed, the book was sent by dragonflight to the assembled mindbenders in New Goregreen. To the amazement of the mindbenders, the game of Bloodball with its clearly defined rules was exactly the sport they had been seeking. (To their eyes, the name of baseball was too bland and would never excite interest among their peoples.) And they were to be proved right as well.
