1942 Red Sox: The Teammates

I have been away from the board for a while but I have started up a new dynasty and a twitter page that is exclusive to this dynasty. I will make monthly detailed posts on here with stats and standings but daily tweets about the finer details of the dynasty.

You can follow on twitter @1942RedSox

I also have another dynasty I will be working on as well. I play all my games out and try to play one game a day...so it is more drawn out but a better chance to get into the details of the dynasty.

The idea of this dynasty is the 1942 Red Sox. My favorite book is The Teammates by David Halberstam which examines the friendship of Ted Williams, Bobby Doerr, Johnny Pesky and Dom Dimaggio. It is a great book if you haven't read it. I am 37 years old so they played well before my time but I have always been fascinated by these guys and this era in Red Sox history.

1942 was their first season as teammates as Johnny Pesky joined the team as a rookie. They would not be teammates again until the 1946 season because of WWII. They would come within one game of winning it all in 1946 and would come close again in 1948 and 1949. However, they always would fall short. I often wondered what would have happened if there was no war. What would they have done together 1943-1945? They were all in their prime after all. What would their individual career numbers be, especially Ted Williams? Would they have gotten that ring?

Strategy wise it will be 1942 authentic with four man rotations and pitching endurance on HIGH...I did however change the closer strategy to Normal

I also made a few changes in relocation based on my own preference.

Boston Braves moved to Atlanta (I have lived down south now for 20 years...I want them in Atlanta)

St Louis Browns have moved to Baltimore and have become the Orioles

Philadelphia Athletics have moved to Oakland

The Giants and Dodgers are still in NY-Brooklyn, the way it should be.

Then there is the Bob Feller issue. Feller enlisted in the armed forces for the 1942 season so on the game he is retired. I unretired him and tried to fix his ratings to line them up with the 1941 version of himself. He is back on the Indians and it should be interesting to see how he performs.

Look forward to interacting with you guys on here and on twitter. Once again @1942RedSox is the twitter handle. I have already played ten games so I am tweeting out the results pretty rapid fire over the next day or so and then once I am caught up it will be one game a day and a few tweets each day about league news. I will come back in here with longer updates with detailed stats and summaries etc

I am not on twitter so I will be following along here. I was lucky enough to meet Johnny Pesky a few years ago at a game in Pawtucket, RI. Unfortunately, dementia is starting to set in according to his son.

I shook his hand at a Red Sox game about ten years ago. Great stuff!
