The Metro de Santiago is made baseball!

I'm a big baseball fan (or fanatic, LOL?) from Santiago de Chile. When I was a child, I'm impressed with the high quality of the Santiago Metro. Aaaahhh, the trains, the stations, everything...!!!! Now, despite the lower service quality of that railway due to Transantiago, I'm still fallen in love with rapid transits. If I were in New York...

It serves a city of 6 million inhabitants. Since its opening in 1975, el Metro has changed the city; it is one of Chile's most important construction projects. While lines 1, 2, and 5 use rubber tire stock, lines 4 and 4A use steel wheels in order to increase capacity. The rapid growth of the population in the city (in 1920, 507,296 inhabitants; in 1940, 1,073,699 inhabitants) was the principal factor in the birth of the idea. The first plan was in 1944, but only in 1968 did work begin.




On September 15, 1975, Augusto Pinochet opened the first section of the underground railway between San Pablo and La Moneda on Line 1.

The birth of the Liga del Metro de Santiago

The Dirección General del Metro, in junction with the Asociación de Béisbol de Santiago, planned a revolutionary alliance for popularize baseball in Santiago, a sligtly unloyal Chilean city (despite being their capital and main city). The original teams are twelve, each one representing one of the first stations of the Santiago Metro. Here are the stations signs:

As viewed, every station at January 1st, 1976 have their own team. However, not every team has red color. For example, Moneda (for the Chilean White House-akin building) has blue and red. Las Rejas (The Fences in Spanish) has grey color, and so.
