Most games won by a pitcher in one season, post-WWII?
What's the most games any pitcher has won in a season in your OOTP seasons? I just had a crazy situation in 1979, where I'm playing as the Mariners.
John Candelaria won 30 games for the Pirates, but was a distant second for the Cy Young...because J.R. Richard won 32 for the Astros! Not only that, he won the major league Pitching Triple Crown with 325 Ks and a 1.77 ERA! And he won 2 more games in the 5-game NLCS win over the Pirates, and another in the 7-game World Series win over my Mariners. That's crazy for 1979, or really any time past around the early 30's (except maybe '67-'68). Tom Seaver led my rotation with 19 wins, but I did use a 5-man rotation, whereas most other teams used 4. So, have any of you encountered those type of win totals in that late of a season? The 4-man rotation seems to be hanging on a bit late in my OOTP sims, but still, wow! |

I had Bert Blyleven win 30 in my 1977 season. He was 30-8 with a 2.48 ERA. The AL was stocked that year with 26 wins for Ron Guidry & Gaylord Perry, 25 wins for Frank Tanana, 24 wins for Dave Rozema, and 23 wins for Dave Goltz. In the NL that year, Steve Rogers earned 28 wins.
All the teams were running 4-man rotations that year so they had plenty of opportunities to get those wins. |

In two separate 1977 campaigns, Ron Guidry came in with 30 and 31 wins.

Guidry won 29 in '78, and a bunch of guys have won 27 over the years. I think Dennis Leonard also won 29 in either '76 or '77. Richard and Candelaria are the only two I've had top 30 so far, though. Most I ever had for one of my own teams was Joey Jay winning 26 in '63, and Tom Seaver with the same number in '75...both years when I ran with 4-man rotations.
'75 was about the only year after '64 I didn't go with a 5-man rotation, though. If you have a good team, you can get some crazy good pitching numbers. I had four 22+ game winners in '75. |
