Spring training begins! Surprisingly the pitchers seems ahead of the pitchers at this point with hurlers on both sides keeping runs off the board. Eventually it went to extras and in the 11th German Barranca hit a solo shot to give the Orioles the 3-2 win. Tom Pierson went deep in his first appearance as a Jay. WP - Dan Quisenberry (1-0) Save - Frank LaCorte (1) LP - Dennis DeBarr (0-1) Spring Record - 0-1 |

The hitters are really having trouble getting on track while the pitchers are doing a decent job... mostly. They are still walking too many. Today Cleveland won 2-1. WP - Ken Forsch (1-0) Save - Wim Remmerswaal (1) LP - Mark Foster (0-1) Spring Record - 1-2 |

It was Toronto's third extra innings game out of four. This one was broken in the 11th as Champ Summers' aggressive running scored himself from 2nd on Adao Dewhirst's single to give the Jays the 4-3 win over the White Sox. Mark Clear pitched three shut-out innings in relief, allowing only one hit. WP - Mark Clear (1-0) LP - Randy Moffitt (0-1) Spring Record - 2-2 |

Jim Clancy made a claim to being ready to start the season by pitching 5 innings, allowing only 1 hit to the Red Sox. New Toronto manager Jack Simmons says there is still work to be done, as shown by the 4 walks. Al Woods and Adao Dewhirst both went deep for the Jays as they won 7-1. First round of Spring cuts
Al Carlson was sent back to the Baltimore Orioles. Biff Pocoroba was sent to AAA. The team is aggressively shopping Oscar Gamble, Champ Summers and Kiko Garcia! Last edited by rpriske; 07-05-2013 at 10:22 AM. |

I realized that I didn't do a 'real life' update on my drafted players like I had done previously so here goes...
Dave Stieb - Next to Roy Halladay, probably the best pitcher in Blue Jay history. He played 16 seasons and all but 1 were with Toronto. Wally Backman (did not sign) - 14 yrs, mostly with the Mets. Average 2B with decent career. Terry Harper - OF - 8 yrs, mostly with the Braves - avg or less hitter. Onix Concepcion - INF - 8 yrs, mostly with the Royals. Defense first, poor hitter Doug Corbett - RP - 8 yrs with Twins and Angels. Solid bullpen arm. Jesus Figueroa - OF - 1 yr with Cubs. Poor hitter. Jim Tracy (did not sign) - OF - 2 yrs with Cubs. Not awful. Unclear why only 2 years. Now a manager. Kim Allen - 2B & OF - 2 yrs with Mariners. No impact. Bill Hayes (did not sign) - C - 2 yrs with Cubs. 9 PA in 2 years. Bob Pate (did not sign) - RF - 2 yrs with Expos. No impact. Stieb is obviously the big addition. Corbett and Harper could certainly be usefull tools. Anything I get out of Concepcion, Figueroa or Allen will be a bonus. |

While the Jays lost to the Tigers 14-7, it is the defense that is more at fault than the pitching. Of those 14 runs, only 5 were earned. WP - Gordie Pladson (1-0) Save - Rick Honeycutt (1) LP - Bobby Castillo (0-1) Spring Record - 8-5 Last edited by rpriske; 07-10-2013 at 12:09 PM. |
