DELMARVA Baseball League

Welcome to the DELMARVA Baseball League dynasty... I am starting a new 16 team league based in Delaware, Maryland and Virginia. Along with the 16 teams there will be 3 levels of minor leagues (AAA, AA and A). I am starting fresh with the inaugural draft. Draft will be done in Serpentine.

I am using the default out of the box settings.
Delaware Conference will not use the DH
Marva Conference will be using the DH

Delaware Conference
Southern:
Milton Brewers
Lewes Braves
Georgetown Sixteens
Dover Generals

Northern:
Wilmington Iron Pigs
Newark Millers
New Castle Colonials
Milford Clippers

MarVa Conference
Eastern Division:
Ocean City Tourists
Chesapeake Blue Crabs
Baltimore Barons
Annapolis Admirals

Western Division:
Washington Senators
Richmond Cardinals
Norfolk Cavaliers
Ellicott City Express

I am hoping to do an weekly or maybe a monthly update. I will be taking the reigns as the GM for one of the teams.

Norfolk Announces Signing of Tony Luca as New GM

Norfolk Announces Signing of Tony Luca as New General Manager: Newly appointed Norfolk Caviliers GM Tony Luca put in an all-nighter yesterday, saying that he's got a lot of work to do and needs to get settled quickly.

"I've done my homework. I've scouted this outfit. I want to be here," he said in a radio interview. "These jobs aren't easy to get. You've got to hit the ground running."

Tomorrow at the Inaugural Draft it will be the first chance for the new skipper to show off his skills.

Inaugural Draft

With the first pick of the Inaugural Draft the New Castle Colonials take Peter "Sinper" Peters.

Peters is a 5-star, left-handed, 20 year outfielder with loads of ability.
Contact 17/18 | Gap 15/15 | HR 20/20 | Eye 19/20 | Avoid K 9/10

===
I ran through the first 25 rounds (out of 100), would ask for the Scouts recommendation and either go with it our chose someone else, and let it auto-draft the rest of team for me. After about 10 rounds the talent pool really lightened up. I concentrated on SP so hopefully that will help me out. Going to be an interesting 1st season, that is for sure.

Norfolk Cavaliers
1st Round Pick 14 (#14): Don Sweetapple, 27yrs, SP, RH, 4.5/4.5*

Stuff 14/14, Movement 12/12, Control 17/17
Stam: 20, Groundball% 57%
3 15+ pitches (FB, SL, CH), 7 CB

2nd Round Pick 3 (#19): Pablo Freitas, 23 yr, CF, RH, 4.5/4.5*

CNT 12/12, GAP 9/9, HR 16/17, Eye 12/13, Avoid K 6/6
Speed 17, Steal 19, Baserunning 19, LF17, CF 12

Our scout wanted to take Pablo first, but I went with pitching. 5 of our first 10 picks were SP.

R3/P14/O46: Carlos Mateo (SP) - 25yrs - 4/4*
R4/P3/O51: Karl Armstrong (SP) - 20yrs - 3.5/4*
R5/P14/O78: Mauro Candelaria (SS) - 25yrs - 4.5/4.5*
R6/P3/O83: Julio Romero (C) - 25yrs - 4/4*
R7/P14/O110: Tsuneo Sato (SP) - 25yrs - 2.5/3*
R8/P3/O115: Brian Cline (LF) - 23yrs - 2.5/3.5*
R9/P14/O142: Yasutoki Ine (2B) - 23 yrs - 3/3*
R10/P3/O174: Danny Rigsby (SP) - 25 yrs - 2.5/2.5*

My scout and I both had the idea of staying young, and it showed with our first, our oldest player drafted through the first 20 rounds was in round 14, Jack Clow (CL) at 29 yrs old.

Minor League Systems

So after the inaugural draft we might not be the best team, but we have a nicely built minor league system with an initial ranking at #2.

Spring Training

Spring Training went pretty good for the Cavaliers, going 13-11 and finishing 2 games behind the Richmond Cardinals... but the preseason predictions don't bode well for us. We have no players predicted to be a top hitter or pitcher, but that isn't always a bad thing.

The odds markers are picking us to finished 4th in the west with a 76-86 record. I am hoping for a .500 season at least.

Annapolis seems to be the class of the league, being the only team predicted to win 100+ games. The Milton Brewers are predicted to be the Delaware Conference champions.

The season is 162 games long, so a lot can happen...

Team Breakdown

The Norfolk Starters should be the best part of the team. All but Karl Armstrong struggled this spring. The bullpen was pretty solid this spring, but I think they performed better than their ratings. I am going to start the season with 13 pitchers on staff, for 2 reasons. 1) I have no other hitters in the minors that are worth carrying, and 2) I brought up Lucio to have a LH in the bullpen. If anyone of the middle relievers struggle you will see the roster move.

Starting Pitchers
Don Sweetapple (R)* - 15 (stuff)/12(movement)/17(control) 20 Stam
Karl Armstrong (R) - 12/13/14 16 Stam
Carlos Mateo (R) - 13/12/16 9 Stam
Tsuneo Sato (R) - 10/13/11 15 Stam
Danny Rigsby (R) - 10/12/11 15 Stam

*opening day starter

Bullpen:
Middle Relief
Dalton Whitaker (R) - 20/8/11
James Gillespie (R) - 12/13/7
Andrew Donnelly (R) - 12/7/10
Lucio Urruticodez (L) - 8/8/9
Andres Alacron (R) - 10/8/7

Setup:
Theodore Petherick (R) - 20/8/17
Alberto Hernandez (R) - 13/14/16

Closer:
Jack Clow (R) - 20/14/13

The Offense... We lost Tim Garner during spring training, and as soon as he his healthy he will see himself inserted back into the lineup as our starting 2b. Till that time we will use Antonio Hernandez, little hit, great glove to fill the void.

Catching:
Julio Romero (R) - 10(contact)/10(Gap)/13(HR)/15(Eye)/10(avoid K
Jacob Chaney (L) - 9/9/8/8/11
- from previous experience I realize how important a good glove behind the plate is, so the first change I get I will be looking to upgrade here. Chaney is a 12, and Romero is a 9. Hopefully the pitching staff will be able to keep the runners close.

Infielders:
IF/OF Gilberto Ramos (R) 10/10/8/10/10/8
SS/2B Antonio Hernandez (R) 8/7/7/8/7
3B/2B Ralph Pierce (R) 10/7/8/9/9
SS Justin Martin (R) 10/10/5/9/11
SS/3B Mauro Candelaria (R) 14/12/6/11/20
2B Tim Garner* (R) 11/9/5/9/12
* out 1-2 more weeks on 15 day DL
- The infield is average hitters, but a pretty good defenders. I am hoping a solid SS/2B combo will help us out in the end. Hernandez is rated 20's all across the board, so he will be seeing a lot of playing because of that.

Outfield:
DH/LF Brian Cline (R) 8/11/16/12/7
OF Luis Marquez (L) 7/9/7/10/8
LF/CF Pablo Freitas (R) 12/9/16/12/7
OF Pat Shelton (R) 8/8/8/11/9
RF Jose Rodriquez (L) 9/9/13/11/9
- The outfield is where our speed is, with all but Cline rated 14+ speed and 17+ Steals. The defense should be good with the starts at 15+ at all positions. Cline will be the primary DH since he doesn't offer much, but an average LF.

Line-up:
CF Pat Shelton
SS Mauro Candelaria
LF Pablo Freitas
DH Brian Cline
C Julio Romero
1B Justin Martin
3B Ralph Pierce
RF Luis Marquez
2B Antonio Hernadez

Up next Opening Day/Week:
3 vs Annapolis Admirals
4 @ Richmond Cardinals

Play ball!

Game 4:

Tsuneo Sato got roughed up going 2.1 innings giving up 8 H's (5 HRs) and 6 runs. Alarcon threw 2.2 innings giving up 3 runs, showing maybe he should be sent down. Julio Romero and Jose Rodriquez (HR 1) each had 2 hits to lead the offense.

Week 2

Fan Interest: 51
Owners Mood: Happy
Current Week: 4-2 (overall 6-7 2 GB 3rd place)
Next Week: 3 vs New Castle, 3 vs Milford

Game 8:
Norfolk 5, Chesapeake 4 (21 innings)
These are the type of games that will ruin your bullpen and your average. Jose Rodriguez crushed a 3-1 fastball 448 feet (HR 2) for the victory and to end a 13 inning scoreless streak. Brian Cline (HR 2) and Julie Romero (HR 1) each homered as well for the Cav's. Jose Rodriguez lead the team with 3 hits. Mauro Candelaria went 0-8, dropping his average to .235. Scott Smith went 8.0 innings, giving up 6 hits and 4 runs, showing that he can pitch at this level. Theo Patherick and Antonio Hernandez both went 4 innings of shutout relief. Dalton Whitaker went the final 2.2 innings getting his first win (1-0)

Game 9:
Norfolk 2, Chesapeake 5
Tsuneo Sato gave us just what we needed, pitching a complete game, even though he took the loss (0-2) not needing to use the bullpen was huge. Sato scattered 7 hits and 5 runs over 8 innings. Gilberto Ramos (HR 2) and Pablo Freitas (HR 2) lead the offense with 2 hits, each with a HR.

Game 10:
Norfolk 3, Chesapeake 6
Danny Rigsby struggled again going 4 innings, giving up 7 hits and 5 runs. Rigsby is unhappy as starter, and is bringing the team down. We will see what we can do to make him happy... Jacob Chaney lead the offense with 3 hits and Brian Cline added a HR (HR 3).

Game 11:
Baltimore 4, Norfolk 5
Don Sweetapple kept warm going 8 innings giving up 11 hits and 4 runs for the win (2-0) while Jack Clow (SV 3) closed the door. Each starter had ONE hit, 9 total. Brain Cline stayed hot hitting HR #4.

Game 12:
Baltimore 0, Norfolk 3
Carlos Mateo went 8 innings giving up 1 hit for the win (1-1) and Jack Clow pitched a perfect 9th for the save (SV 4). Mauro Candelaria and Brian Cline each had 2 hits (Cline had 2 2B's).

Game 13:
Baltimore 3, Norfolk 6
Scott Smith went 8 innings, giving up 6 hits and 3 runs for the win (1-0), while Theo Petherick closed out the 9th for his first save. The offense flexed their muscle going deep 3 times; Pablo Fritas (3), Gilberto Ramos (3), Ralph Pierce (1). Mauro Candelaria lead the offense with 3 hits... Our first series win and 3 game win streak. Lets hope it carries on.

Players of the Week:
Delaware: Glen Hall (Newark Millers) 10-22 3 HR's 8 RBI
Marva: Thomas Cooper (Chesapeake Blue Crabs) 13-31 4 HR, 9 RBI

Power Rankings:
1) Annapolis Admirals
2) Milford Clippers
3) Washington Senators
4) Milton Brewers
5) Wilmington Iron Pigs
11) Norfolk Cavaliers

Week 3

Current Week: 5-1 (overall 11-8 1 1/2 GB 2nd place)
Next Week: 3 vs Washington, 3 @ Ellicott City
Power Ranking: 4 (our first time in the top 5)
Fan Interest: 51
Owners Mood: Happy

Game 14:
New Castle 1, Norfolk 2
Tsuno Sato followed up his last solid start with another one, this time he was able to pull out the win (1-2), going 8 innings, giving up 7 hits and 1 run. Jack Clow pitched a perfect 9th for the save (SV 5). Tim Garner lead the offense with 2 hits and Luis Marquez clocked his first HR of the season.

Game 15:
New Castle 6, Norfolk 3
Danny Rigsby stuggled yet again, giving up 6 hits and 6 runs over 2.2 innings taking the loss (0-3). Lucio Urruticodez and Alberto Hernandez each pitched 3 innings of shut out ball. 5 Cav's hitters got a hit, with Justin Martin's double being the only extra base hit. Tim Garner left the game in the first after getting hurt running the bases.

Transaction News:
Tim Garner goes down again! This time straining his Quad and will be out 2 weeks. Jesus Rivera 2.5/5* prospect was brought up to replace Garner. Rivera is a 21 year old top 2B prospect. Should see a good deal of PT.

Game 16:
New Castle 4, Norfolk 6
Don Sweetapple stayed strong. Going 7 innings, allowing 7 hits and 3 runs for the win (3-0), and Jack Clow closed the door with a perfect 9th (SV 6). Mauro Candelaria lead the offense with 3 hits and 3 RBI.

Transaction News:
Norfolk, Richmond Make Trade: Earlier today, officials from the Norfolk Cavaliers and the Richmond Cardinals announced that they had finalized negotiations on a trade between the two teams. The deal will send 26-year-old starting pitcher Danny Rigsby and 24-year-old minor league first baseman Rafael Delgado to Richmond in exchange for 18-year-old minor league first baseman King Brock and 24-year-old minor league starting pitcher Sun Ho.

King Brock is 1.5 star prospect, but with pretty good potential. He will be sent to A Jacksonville Tritons.
Sun Ho is a 1 star starting pitcher. He will be sent to AAA Yokohama Baystars.
Danny Rigsby is a 2.5 star player, Rafael Delgado is a 2.5 star prospect.

The trade took 3 days to finally get done, but I Rigsby is gone, hopefully this won't hurt me in the long run.

Karl Armstrong was activated from the DL and placed in the starting rotation.

37 year old Andres Alarcon refuses to play for AAA Yokohama so he will be grated his release.

Game 17:
Milford 4, Norfolk 5 (11 innings)
Carlos Mateo went 7.2 innings giving up 8 hits and 4 runs (3 ER), but took the ND. Theo Petherick went the final 3.1 innings, with 1 hit ball for the victory (1-0). Patrick Shelton and Brian Cline each had 2 hits, 2 2b for Cline, and Pablo Freitas hit a 2-run shot (HR 4).

Game 18:
Milford vs Norfolk
Karl Armstrong came back off the DL and went 8 strong innings, giving up 4 hits and 1 run for the victory (1-1), and Jack Clow threw yet another perfect 9th for the save (SV 7). Mauro Candelaria and Pablo Freitas lead the offense with 2 hits each, Pablo slugged 2-HR's (HR 5,6) for the first multi-HR game for the Cav's.

Game 19:
Milford 5, Norfolk 6
The Cav's scored their first walk-off win of the season in the 9th. A single by Pablo Fritas, a walk to Brian Cline put runners on 1st and 2nd. Jose Rodriguez moved the runners over with a ground out to first base. Jacob Chaney slammed a 3-2 fastball to RF scoring Pablo Freitas for the victory! Scott Smith threw 5 decent innings before leaving in the 6th an injury. Jack Clow blew his first save in the 9th (BS 1), but got credit for the win (1-0). Patrick Shelton lead the Cav attack with 3 hits. Antonio Hernandez (HR 2) and Brian Cline (HR 5) each added HR's.

Transaction News: After the game Scott Smith was placed on the 15 day DL with a finger blister. His replacement in the rotation has not been decided yet, but it looks like Sun Ho is the front runner.

Players of the Week:
Delaware: Angel Romero (Georgetown Sixteens) 13-28 3 HR, 6 RBI
MarVa: George Waller (Baltimore Barons) 12-21 2 RBI

Power Rankings:
1) Milton Brewers
2) Annapolis Admirals
3) Richmond Cardinals
4) Norfolk Cavaliers
5) Milford Clippers

So far on the season he is 3-0 in 4 starts, posting a 0.31 ERA over 28.2 innings, allowing 13 hits and only 1 run, while striking out 38. Pretty impressive so far this season. They probably have one of the best pitching staffs in the game.

They drafted an older bunch of guys, going for the championship right off the bat.

Game 26:
Norfolk 1, Ellicott City 2

Game 39

Game 40
Norfolk 5, Baltimore 6 (10 innings)

Week 8

Current Week: 3-4 (overall 21-24 5.5 GB 4th place)
Next Week: 3 @ Lewes, 3 @ Milton
Power Ranking: 13
Fan Interest: 52
Owners Mood: Normal

Game 46
Norfolk 13, Ellicott City 4
A 9-run 2nd is all Don Sweetapple needed to cruise to his 8th win (8-1). As he went 7 strong, giving up 7 hits and 4 runs. Brian Cline hit a grand slam (11) and Jose Rodriquez added 2-HR's of his own (5).

Game 47
Norfolk 5, Ellicott City 14
Carlos Mateo (2-5) gave up 6 runs over 5.1 innings and the bullpen didn't do much better, allowing 8 runs (6 ER) over the final 2.2 innings. Jesus Rivera (3) and Patrick Shelton (5) hit HR's for the Cav's. 5 Cav players had 2 hits a piece.

Transactions:
The Norfolk Cavaliers traded away Luis Marquez for Allen Britt. Marquez who has played sparingly for the Cavaliers, is a 32-year-old outfielder who can play solid defense. Marquez was hitting .136, with 1 HR and 6 RBI, in 20 games for the Cav's. Britt is a 24 year-old 2* prospect with some speed who can play the corner outfield spots. On the season he was hitting .295 with 2 HR and 18 RBI in 37 games. Hopefully getting Britt will add a little more punch to the offense, he is rated higher than Marquez so I see this as a positive move.

Game 48
Norfolk 2, Ellicott City 6
Karl Armstrong (3-4) was let down by his defense, giving up 6 runs (4 ER) over 6.1 innings, on 9 hits. Juan Rivera and Ralph Pierce each had 2 hits, and Jose Rodriquez had a 2-run HR (6).

Game 49
Norfolk 2, Annapolis 1
Scott Smith took the ND, throwing 6.1 solid innings, giving up 1 run on 4 hits. Dalton Whitaker got the win (2-0) and Jack Clow the save (12), as the bullpen remained solid. Ralph Pierce and Juan Rivera each had 2 hits for the Cavs.

Game 50
Norfolk 4, Annapolis 5 (10 innings)
Tsueno Sato threw a quality 6.1 innings, allowing 4 runs (3 ER) on 9 hits, but the offense couldn't help him out. As Jack Clow took the loss (1-5) in the 10th. Patrick Shelton had 3 hits to lead the Cav's Offense.

Game 51
Norfolk 6, Annapolis 1
Don Sweetapple threw his first complete game, going 9 innings, allowing 1 run on 5 hits (9-1). Patrick Shelton lead the way with 3 hits and 2 RBI.

Game 52
Norfolk 0, Annapolis 12
Carlos Mateo got roughed up once again (2-6) taking another loss, giving up 9 runs on 8 hits. Norfolk's offense remained inconsistent as they could only manage 2 hits off the Annapolis staff.

Notes:
I have tried to shop Carlos Mateo around a few times, but there are no takers. My scout has him rated pretty highly, so I am still hoping he can turn it aroun. Stuff: 13/13, Movement: 13/13, Control 16/16, with 3 13+ pitches and a weak changeup. At 25 he has no option years left or I would send him to AAA to try to get out of this funk.

Right now I am going to stay-put and see what these guys can do over the course of the season. We will see what happens as the deadline appears, we have 2 MR's who may have some value as the deadline nears.

Players of the Week:
Delaware: Fred Bishop (Wilmington Iron Pigs) 14-31 2 HR, 4 RBI
MarVa: Roberto Perez (Baltimore Barons) 8-22 4 HR, 8 RBI

Power Rankings:
1) Washington Senators
2) Annapolis Admirals
3) Newark Millers
4) Wilmington Iron Pigs
5) Ocean City Tourists
13) Norfolk Cavaliers

June 1 Player Development Report/Draft Pool

Had a rough month with player development... this might make the upcoming draft a little harder to prepare for.

SP Scott Smith (22) saw improvement in his control. His current rating dropped from 2.5 to 0.5, but his potential went up from 2.5 to 3.0

CL Dalton Whitaker (26) had a little increase in his movement 8 to 9, and his overall went from 4.0 to 4.5

CL Jack Clow (29) Saw his control potential drop from 14 to 13 and took an overall potential drop from 5.0 to 4.5

*** note with the drop to Clow it might be time to shop him around. He is having a good season and might be able to get something for him now (before its too late)

SP Tsuneo Sato (26) got a bump in Control 11 to 12 and has began to throw the ball harder, moving into the 95-97 range. His potential went up as well 2.5 to 3.0

SP Karl Armstrong (20) had a mixed month, as his current stuff went from 11 to 12, but by getting more "stuff" he lost some control, as his potential dropped from 14 to 13. But along with that he is throwing the ball harder 94-96 and he saw an overall rating improvement from 3.5 to 4.0

2B Jesus Rivera (21) a big time prospect, got a bump in his overall contact going from 9 to 10, this lead to an overall rating boost from 1.5 to 2.0.

LF/DH Brian Cline (24) who was built to DH and hasn't seen much PT anywhere else, lost a defensive rating in LF dropping from 12 to 11. This lead to ratings drops across the board, overall 3.5 to 3.0 and Potential 4.0 to 3.5.

CF Pat Shelton (26) saw his speed go up from 16 to 17, but took a loss in the overall and potential ratings 2.5 to 2.0.

CF Pablo Freitas (23) our #2 pick in the inaugural draft got a bump on his potential power from 16 to 17, but overall lost half a star of potential dropping to 4.0

RF Jose Rodriquez (26) had his current power numbers drop from 13 to 12, but got a boost in the ratings, 2.5 to 3.5 (both overall and potential)

CL Jose Martinez (26-AAA) Had his current and potential stuff go from 11 to 12, earned a big boost in control from 12 to 14, dropped a stamina 17 to 16, but started throwing harder, now topping out at 95-97. His potential, as a starter, went up from 2.5 to 3.5.

1B Gilberto Ramos (28-AAA) who was demoted after hitting under .200 for the first month-plus had his defensive rating at first go up to 18, from 17. Overall and potential ratings took a drop though, from 2.5 to 2.0.

SP Mike Roeder (20-A) increased both is potential stuff (7 to 8) and current stamina (8 to 9)

LF Murray Pavie (20-A) had a good month, gaining a rating in contact 8 to 9, his eye got better (4 to 5) and defensively in LF he went from 12 to 13.

---
I went and update Pablo Freitas' position, as he is a primary LF with a defensive rating of 19 (he 12 in CF and 13 in RF).

And with the draft coming up (later today) I am going to look into making some trades. Jack Clow started dropping so now might be the time to see whats out there, along with Clow is another solid MR/CL Theo Petherick. Theo is 34 yeas old, the 2nd olders player on the squad so if we could get some prospects back for him might not be bad idea.

---
Draft Pool
This years draft isn't very deep with only 7 players with a 3.5* potential, and only one player close to being Major League ready.

The top players available (in no particular order) seem to be:
1. Dan Nelson, 18 year-old center fielder out of high-school.
>> a 2 star CF prospect that can fly

2. Steven Wilson, 18 year-old left fielder out of high-school.
>> a 1 star prospect that hits for power.

3. Jorge Morán, 23 year-old starting pitcher out of college.
>> the only guy his close to ML ready, currently a 2.5, with 4.5 potential. A hard thrower with great control.

4. Fabrice Bernard, 18 year-old starting pitcher out of high-school.
>> a 1* prospect who show signs of great stuff and movement.

5. Eugene Carpenter, 18 year-old starting pitcher out of high-school.
>> A 3.5 star prospect with great control potential.

6. Mike McNeal, 19 year-old starting pitcher out of high-school.
>> A 2 star prospect who looks to be a solid #3 in the future

7. Matt Hollis, 21 year-old starting pitcher out of college.
>> A 4 star prospect with good velocity and good stuff. Control is the question.

8. Derek Campbell, 21 year-old center fielder out of college.
>> A true utility man who can play 5 positions (16+ rating) and can steal some bases. If he hits he will live up to his 3.5 star potential.

9. Alexander Jordan, 19 year-old starting pitcher out of high-school.
>> 1.5 star pitcher who has show signs of greatness, when he can throw strikes.

10. Arturo Ramírez, 17 year-old starting pitcher out of high-school.
>> A 4 pitch pitcher, who could make an impact on a big league club one day.
