A very semi-historical Major League

This league will start 1871, with 16 teams and a complete minor league system. The players on the teams are complete fictional, but i will use the historical rookie's for the first year player draft(edited a bit), which will take place at the 1st of March.

Name: Setup.png
Views: 725
Size: 43.1 KB

Furthermore, i will keep the neutral major league settings(2014) for the league, but with some little tweaks.

Trading frequency: very low
Advanced draftee signing: no
DH: both leagues
Automatic evolution: no
Batter & Pitcher aging speed: .900
Batter & Pitcher development speed: 1.100
Talent Change Randomness: 25

In order to have enough(talented) players in the system, i will add a number of free agent prospects every year, depending on how many players are in this year's draft. In order to keep this setup going, i will start to expand the league earlier, so that i got something like 20-24 teams around 1901.

PS: I use the cool glossy logos from justafan for the majors and the 5000+ generic logo's from Cephasjames for the minors(love them, ty guys)

Amateur signings 1871

Pitchers:

P Terence Kelly(Chicago White Sox)

Name: NAm T.Kelly 1871.png
Views: 594
Size: 320.6 KB

After getting chased by a lot of teams, Kelly signed with the ChiSox. A great coup by them, as he's projected to become the staff's ace in a few years. The ChiSox are predicted to be a playoff team, and could compensate their late draft pick with him and the signing of fellow amateur Dylan Fitzgerald.

Name: NAm C.vanBenschoten 1871.png
Views: 609
Size: 330.0 KB

The other Sox got van Benschoten from Fayetteville, Arizona. A guy with a deep arsenal of pitches, but without the biggest stamina. And he is already 22, so he needs to develop fast to become a big league starter before his 26th birthday.

Batter

Name: NAm B.Burns 1871.png
Views: 605
Size: 307.2 KB

A good all around hitter and a decent infielder with a nice arm, Burns could be a cornerstone franchise player for the Tigers. They hope he develops quickly enough to replace their 35-year old Juan García, who is a free agent after the 1872 season.

RF Dylan Fitzgerald(Chicago White Sox)

Name: NAm D.Fitzgerald 1871.png
Views: 599
Size: 294.6 KB

Fitzgerald is slated to become an extra base hit machine, but if he cannot DH for the Sox, he could be a liability defensively as it stands right now. The ChiSox minor league coaches will have to work him hard to become better.

Preseason Predictions

Name: 1871 PP.png
Views: 580

The ChiSox with a deep lineup and the Indians with a lot of pitching are predicted to win the AL East/West, but i am careful believing that. The Indians need a big season off their rookie Candy Cummings, and the ChiSox will be challenged hard by the Minnesota Twins, with Soufiane Bouchard being a early triple crown candidate early in the history of the league, and Jim Britt joining ace José Ramos on top of the Twins rotation.

The NL West title seems to be in the up for grabs, white in the East the Pirates are slated to take it. The Cubs need their rookie Cy Bentley to pitch great, and to stay healthy, as he only barely passed the physical in Chicago and was dismissed by the Twins. The Pirates need to play small ball every game to score runs, and need to have a great year out of their staff to reach that 86-76 mark, so a breakdown if it comes to injuries is possible.

Signed for the next 6 seasons, Davis could become the early star pitcher of the MLB if the Indians can sent a competitive team on the field for him.

According to sources from Minneapolis, Bouchard will start the season hitting 3rd for the Twins. This could cost him some RBI's, but with veteran 1B Martial Henry hitting behind him, he got the protection he needs to have a big season.

Rodríguez got the speed and the contact potential to become a premiere leadoff hitter, but needs to develop quickly to have a long career. He was a 26th round pick in the inaugual draft, and could be a steal in retrospect.

2.6. New York - Oakland trade

The A's start rebuilding right now... and they are doing it wrong. Trading away a 29-year old superstar catcher with great power for a 26-year old defensive & speedy shortstop and 2 totally useless minor leaguers.

The Yankees can really be happy about that, as they can now swap light hitting catcher Joe Morgan(.188 2HR 18RBI) out of the lineup.

P.S.: Young has hit a 2-run homer in his first game for the Yankees.

1871 Mid-Season Wrap Up

By the All-Star Game, the AL East is tied up between Rowan van Aardschot's(.311/.419/.535/.953 17HR 58RBI) Boston Red Sox and sensational Fau Peterson's(.376/.428/.650/1.078 22HR 90RBI). While the Red Sox are heavily relying on their league leading pitching staff featuring righty's Joel Phillips(7-5, 2.83ERA) and José Gutiérrez(9-4, 2.94ERA), the Yankee's need to outscore their opponents, as their pitching ranks 7th in the AL.

The Orioles got nice outings by the All-Star starter Horace Stone(11-5, 3.13ERA) and Kevin Funk(5-8, 2.03ERA), but the rest of the starters are pitching sub-par, and their bats aren't that dangerous despite RF Alfredo Mesa(.341/.403/.600/1.003 19HR 57RBI) having a suprisingly great season. For the highly praised Indians, the offense is a mess with only SS Liam Allen(.364/.401/.457/.858 22RBI) having a career season. In addition to that, starters Ken David(6-8, 3.41ERA), regarded as the best pitcher after spring, and rookie Candy Cummings(10-8, 3.64ERA) are the only reliable starters.

The bash brothers of Minneapolis, LF/DH Soufiane Boucard(.364/.449/.633/1.082 20HR 56RBI) and veteran 1B Martial Henry(.303/.369/.572/.941 23HR 66RBI) are the story in this city, and lets not forget #3 starter Josh Hooley(12-3 2.74ERA). Behind them, the White Sox are trying to catch up, but their bats are ice cold apart from RF Timothee Tolo(.364/.411/.480/.891 8HR 50RBI 32SB), and their pitching has been average at best.

The Tigers, who lost two of their starters for the year, and the A's are way out of the race, and the only reason to watch the A's right now is CF Tomás Martínez(.344/.423/.675/.1098 25HR 65RBI).

The Pirates are on pace now, with the NL-best offence regarding BA,OBP and runs scored. All-Star SS Bernie Herbert(.383/.469/.545/1.015 6HR 45RBI 25SB) is having a great year in the 3-hole and rookie Ernesto Mata(.303/.362/.498/.860 11HR 64RBI) has been there to drive em in. Holding them back is their pitching staff, with their ace Ken Dennis(7-5 4.83ERA) struggeling, but they hope he and the rest of the staff rebound in the second half.

In the city of brotherly love, the duo of CF Greg Heath(.320/.377/.525/.902 13HR 48RBI) and José Vázquez(8-2 1.67ERA) are leading the charge, but they need surprise contributions if they want the playoffs. Same goes for the Reds, who hit for a lot of power so far, but need more baserunners and more quality starts behind ace Jesús Sáenz(9-5 2.95ERA). The Braves are having a season to forget, only way they get into the newspapers is when CF Brit Dunn(.254/.347/.525/.873 22HR 48RBI) wins the home-run crown.

With a run differential of +76, the Cubs should be hard to catch in the west, but a number expect their strong pitching to regress in the second half, as they lack a boni fide ace. That is no concern for the redbirds of St.Louis, as their one-two punch of Sergio Vásquez(7-3 2.46ERA) and Ánibal Vélez(7-5 2.72ERA) is regarded as the strongest combo in the NL. They need to step up the scoring, because 3B Sam Mullins(.299/.392/.553/.945 18HR 48RBI) won't bring them into the playoffs alone.

While the Giants are just in third place, they played better than the record shows, but they struggled alot against left-handed starters. Starter Rob Drew(10-4 2.49ERA) has a shot at the Pitcher of the Year Award, and if they start to hit with runners in scoring position, they can challenge the Cubs for the pennant. For the Dodgers, it is a season to forget, and with 6 pitchers on the DL, it won't get better in the second half. They can build around the 24-year old RF Chris Wallace(.371/.460/.587/1.047 8HR 45RBI 34SB), who could be the face of the franchise for the next decade.

The A's continue to sell off their assets, with above average 3B Dylan Bishop going to the ChiSox. They got back a replacement level shortstop, who had a good season so far, and #61 prospect Dylan Fitzgerald, whom the Sox signed earlier this year as a amateur free agent.

The Dodgers decide to move on without Joel Pierce, and will get 2B Brad Burns for him. Burns was considered the biggest amateur free agent this year.

The Cubs got a upgrade in left with veteran Rod Fitzger, but they lost some production at first. Bobby Mitchell is a potent bat if he gets hot, but Thompson was an RBI machine behind Mel Payne. In addition to that, they lost veteran Nicoletti, and with Bentley out for the season, their pitching thinned out by that move.
