Meet the Mets!!! Dynasty est. 1962

Meet The Mets,
Meet The Mets,
Step right up and greet the Mets!
Bring your kiddies,
bring your wife;
Guaranteed to have the time of your life
Because the Mets are really sockin’ the ball;
Knocking those home runs over the wall!
East side,
West side,
Everybody’s coming down
To meet the N-Y M-E-T-S Mets of New York town!

Coming soon to an OOTP Dynasty near you!!

Will be a career replay! Can i do a better job than 40 wins in 1962? Can i win the world series before 1969? Can i put together another great version of the 1986 Mets, IMO the best baseball team I ever saw? Can i defeat the Yankees in 2000 or another year? Setting up to do a career dynasty with my new playoff format starting in 1962 with a draft. I will be the GM but not the manager, so i better make sure that my manager and coaches do right by me. Losing is NOT an option! So...get ready to Meet the Mets!! LETS GO METS!!! BRING IT HOME, METS!!! BASEBALL LIKE IT OUGHTA BE!!

COMING SOON!! RATED E FOR EVERY METS FAN EVERYWHERE!!!

1961-PreDynasty

The best way to start this mets dynasty is to quick-replay the 1961 season so that i can draft for the expansion mets in 1962. This is gonna be really interesting...using hindsight...im hoping to avoid the 40 win season in 1962. I chose the mets because...well...THERE ARE NO DYNASTIES FEATURING THE METS ANYWHERE!!!

And me being a mets fan, i was getting a little miffed. I see yankees, red sox, dodgers, blue jays, mariners, reds, tigers, but NO mets.

So now...its their turn up to bat. So stay tuned for

"MEET THE METS!"

after simming the 1961 season to get an expansion draft...i took control of the mets, and became the GM..first thing i did was set up my coaches and i was lucky that i found a legendary coach across the board and so i made him the manager...no casey stengel this time...

i did my draft and i thought i did well considering who was made available...here are my top players that i was able to secure...what do u guys think?

Jim Gilliam was the best player avail...so i grabbed him... i thought getting Wills and Zimmer were pretty good moves too..Bobby Richardson was interesting though...throughout the preseason...6 teams tried to trade me for him along for Tommie Agee who i also grabbed...i didnt give him up though...he might come in handy...

i was also able to get Gaylord Perry in the first year draft...couldnt let him slip by with the spitball he throws...

So...ladies and gentlemen...it's time to MEET THE 1962 NEW YORK METS!!!

Oh yeah...in the news today...a half a million dollar BMW was wrecked by Earl Francis of the Pirates...

Did BMW make 500,000 dollar cars back then? Maybe it has a flux capacitor in it.

Oh well...spring training is sunday and ill be doing one month a day...i will be GM only...i will not run the games...although i will take a look at afew from time to time...

looking forward to going to the polo grounds...the mets home before shea...

also using MY playoff system...top three teams in each league/division will make the playoffs...division winner gets a bye and #2 and #3 play a wildcard best of three playoff...then best of five LCS and then Best of seven WS...when the league expands into two divisions per league...8 teams will make the playoffs instead of six...

so sit back and enjoy YOUR NEW YORK METS!!!

1962--Spring

Spring 1962

Well my owner thinks that my expansion Mets should stay close to an even record. He said "Good Luck" to me. Really???
I just want to beat 40 wins in the 1962 season. The 1962 mets are considered the worst team in baseball history. Now IM running the team. This could be very embarrassing.

Predicted to be dead last in the NL was no surprise either. Take a look at ALL the FAMILIAR names that OOTP says will be the top players during 1962. Many soon to be HOFers there.

Maury Wills got my attention becasue he stole the most bases in spring training. Looks like i might have stolen a race car in the expansion draft.

I lost Frank Kostro for a short time due to injury...but he will bounce back. I like my lineup in 1962...Sawatski and Gilliam could surprise here.

No transactions during the spring. Its time for Opening Day--1962.

Although I find these 1962 Mets' pitching highly questionable, 40 wins shouldn't be a challenge.

Heck, I've played through the real 1962 Mets season twice, and always beat 50 wins. That team is also severely pitching challenged...

April 1962

April 1962--TWIB Notes:

The season started off the way i thought it would...with the Mets bringing up the rear. I lost Burdette for about two months but im expecting a bounce back from the guy. I spoke to him and he said that the "hammy" hurts like hell, but he will make do with what the trainers tell him.

Johnny Temple got off to a great start batting .387 and the mets lead the league in stolen bases with Frank Thomas the team leader with 13. Nice to know i got some speed early on, might come in handy in the long run. I know...a VERY long run.

However, Im not last in the league as the Cubs have that distinction. But the season is young and right now im on pace to barely win 50 games.

May 1962

Twib notes;

May 1962 wasnt much better. Had a couple of three game winning streaks during the month, but the rest of the games showed on the losing end of the scoreboard. Checking the trade block, i saw a decent catcher available in Del Crandall. My reserve catcher Lau was expendable so i sent him to the Braves in exchange for Crandall. Just thought i make a move...couldnt hurt. Then later, Crandall said he wanted more playing time, i said to him you were traded to be a backup...but i will talk to Dykes, my manager, and see what he said. He put him in the starting lineup against LHP. So we will see.

Roy Face, my stopper said we suck and he wanted to be somewhere else. I told him that we are an EXPANSION team...what...did you expect the world series in our first year? I told him to get back to his bullpen, you are not going anywhere this year. Schmuck!

15 wins after May means i might make above 40 when the season is over...but baseball is a game of ups and downs...or should i say "outs"?

My owner...Mr. Doubleday...not too happy at the moment...but he said he;s only "acting" mad because it's out first year in the majors. Hate to see what happens when gets "furious."

The mets are the fastest team in baseball...leading the NL in steals...but we cant hit or pitch for s&^%! Well...two months in the can...maybe June will be better?

I'm a little disappointed that Clarence "Choo Choo" Coleman didn't make this Mets squad, since the world would never hear the classic exchange between Coleman and Mets TV announcer Ralph Kiner:

Kiner: “What’s your wife’s name, and what’s she like?”
Coleman: “Her name is Mrs. Coleman, and she likes me.”

No i wasnt able to grab Coleman for the season...however, Mr. Kiner did have a conversation with me concerning the broadcast booth. He asked me can he still do the mets games on TV?

I told him sure...just bring your handkerchief. He asked why and then i said you will be shedding a lot of tears this season.

In my world the '62 Mets won 43 games and finished a single game ahead of Houston.

Twib

Well, June went a little better than May. 27-53 means that we could be finishing with 50+ wins. Not too shabby with THIS pitching staff. Both Spence and Richardson wanted out and i told them there's the door. Get out and back to your team! I dont think they appreciated my sarcasm though. Might have be careful walking the streets. They might put out a hit on me. Thats okay...Ill get them back in the next life.

The Mets are still fast and the batting avg. improved. Coleman, Mejias and Wills are doing the job. But there was bad news, as Frank J. Thomas got hurt, he will miss two months.

Drabowski isnt doing too bad as my ace...a 2.93 ERA is very good...no complaints there.

I brought up a pudgy Don Zimmer from the minors and hes performing pretty well. Ill keep an eye on him.

July 1962

July 1962.

I had a few things to do so i decided to trade away my malcontent Daryl Spencer and Gus Bell for Bill Bruton.

Bruton has a few nice numbers and he is an improvement in the outfield over what i had.

Maury Wills got arrested today for stealing too many bases. He leads the majors in SB and i think he will do that for some time. Pretty quick!

34-75 is the record after July, so it looks like i will beat 40 wins for 1962....maybe i can get to 50?

August 1962

August 1962

Not much to say here. I didnt do any transactions this month though i lost Bruton and Morgan for a while. Gordy Coleman continues to be my teams best hitter and now that Drabowski has come back from injury, maybe my pitching will improve. Nowhere to go but up.as my pitching staff is dead last in thr NL. That was to be expected in the first year however. 43 wins means i made my goal. Won more games that they actually did in 1962. Can i still get 50? I only need 7 more but that is a tall order as most of the teams i play in September are fighting for a playoff spot.
