OOTP historic rerun.

I am going to do a historic replay starting from 1871.

I will basically use whatever OOTP sets up as leagues and teams.

This means that I will have players imported in the season they started their career but assigned to teams via a random draft.

The recalculation will be on a 3 year basis using the real statistics.

I will not alter any injury retirements or anything as I want to see how the players careers differ to those of real life.

I am going to add an AAA and an A minor league to the set up just to give some realism to the game for the new draftees later in the game (wont be used much at the start due to a lack of players).

I will give a monthly report for each team during the season and ad hoc reports in the off season. I will try to make these in the form of newspaper write ups but cannot promise they will be very good.

So here goes and I apologise up front if the reports seem slow coming through as it will take me time to write them up after each gameplay month (especially in the later years when it grows to 24 or more teams)

Welcome to the first in what will be a monthly report on the new fledgling professional sport of baseball. We here at the post will report on all the comings and goings of our new team the Canaries and hopefully provide you readers an insight into the fortunes and trials that the club faces over the coming years.

With this in mind we give you here a quick run down on the club and it first tentative steps towards greatness with a look at who they are and who they acquired in the MLB Inaugural Draft on the 1st of January

The Canaries are owned by Mike Coleman, a 51 year old Shipping Building Magnet from New York City. He is a generous man who gives of his time and money to any project that he is involved with. Employees say he is a good man to work with and is lenient with you so that you can get things right in the time you need. He is currently running the club himself but is looking to hire a new General Manager to handle the day to day running so that he can get back to building his new metal ships.

The club will play its games at the newly built 1000 capacity Newington Park which is situated in the western side of Baltimore. According to Mr Coleman all fans are welcome and a ticket for a home game will cost 17 cents per person.

We will now look at the players that the club hopes will take it to glory from the Inaugural Draft held yesterday.

The first round draft pick saw the Baltimore Canaries make sure that they had their pitcher in place. The person they drafted was Cherokee Fisher. This 26 year old from Philadelphia has shown good skills in the amateur leagues and there is lots of good noise coming from respected experts on the game of baseball about how far this young man could take the club. The first Batter to be drafted was 25 year old Right Fielder Lip Pike from New York. Mr Coleman said he had to draft young Pike as he had watched him a lot in the Amateur Leagues in New York these past few years and thought he would be an excellent addition to his new ball club.

The Chronicle is happy to announce that the new world of professional sport has come to our fair city. We will be giving reports to you, our faithful reader, of the new baseball club called the Boston Red Stockings. Below is a quick review of this new club so that you can decide whether this new venture is worthwhile for ours and your support.

Size: 17.1 KB

The new baseball club has been set up by owner Mark Hill. Mr Hill is an outspoken 63 year old Texan who has made his money in the cattle trade. While he is outspoken he very rarely backs that up with money to see out his thoughts as he likes to get value for what he spends. This though is tempered by the fact that he is generous to his employees and gives them leeway to complete the tasks that they carry out for him. He has handed the day to day running of the club to GM Karl Bakewell. The 52 year old Mr Bakewell has been around the amateur leagues for a long time and has all the experience needed to build a good squad.

The Red Stockings will be playing their games at the newly built 7000 capacity South End Grounds in the South End area of Boston. Fans have been told they are very welcome to come and buy tickets for this seasons game and they will cost 19 cents per person.

The Players that the fans will be seeing have been picked in the Inaugural Draft. Bellow we outline who they are

The first round draft pick was used to gain the best pitcher that they could. This pitcher was 19 year old youngster Bobby Mathews. According to our experts opposing batters better watch out as this pitcher has shown in his fledgling career that he can make the ball do weird and wonderful things as it moves round corners on its way to the plate. This means that the catcher will need to be extremely good and with the second round pick the club picked Mike McGeary. This is another 19 year old youngster who has very good fielding skills so hopefully should be able to handle what Mathews pitches.

We here in Brooklyn have been graced by the MLB awarding one of its new professional baseball clubs to our small part of New York City. The Recorder will keep an eye on this new team and try to bring all the fans the ups and downs that the team has. Below is a quick review of this new team for you to peruse before the season gets under way.

The Brooklyn Atlantics franchise has been awarded to owner Edilberto Diment. The 48 year old Mr Diment made his money from the new phosphate mines that have grown up in South Carolina before deciding to buy into the Atlantics for some diversification. In his foray into this new phosphate market he has had to watch the cents so that he can get the best from the mines. He will bring this same attention to his baseball team. The miners working for him say that he is one of the new southern industrialist and always gives time for them to get the work done. The man entrusted by Mr Diment to run the club in this manner is 41 year old Kenny Butler. Butler has some experience managing in the amateur leagues that is hoped he can bring to the club.

The Atlantics will be playing at the 5000 capacity Capitoline Grounds based here in Brooklyn. The club has set ticket prices at 17 cents per person and will gladly take in any fan that wants to watch the club.

We will now look at the player that the club managed to recruit through the Inaugural Draft.

The Atlantics were drafting late in the first round an picked 21 year old pitcher John McMullin. This youngster from Philadelphia has seen some playing time in the amateur leagues but scouts are unsure if he has what it takes to get to the top in this sport. His movement is good but he can be inconsistent. With the second pick the club decided to go all out for a star batter. They managed to find 21 year old Short Stop Davy Force from New York City. This youngster has shown a lot of promise and skill in the amateur leagues and the club has high hopes of good things from this prospect.

The White Stockings franchise has been awarded to Chicago and we here at the Times will be glad to see them in our city. We will be reporting to you the baseball fans how this new professional club performs in the upcoming MLB season. Below is a quick review of the club and its players.

Name: coach_145.png
Views: 1345
Size: 19.3 KB

The White Stockings new owner is 53 year old Floridian Sean Holman. Mr Holman is of the old school and has made his money in agriculture. He has learnt to control his finances while raising his cotton and cows and he is bringing that control to the new ball club. Due to his old school ways he likes to be controlling of his staff and gives them only a little leeway to achieve his stated aims for his businesses. The inexperienced 32 year old Salvador Rosatorres has been signed up as the GM of the White Stockings and will only have a little time to prove if he is worthy of this trust he has been given by Mr Holman.

The White Stockings will be playing their home games at the 1000 capacity Union Base Ball Grounds in the down town district of Chicago. The fans going to see the White Stockings will be asked to part with 17 cents a ticket.

The players these fans will see are listed below.

Knowing that they had last pick in the first round of the draft but the first pick in the second round, the White Stockings chose to go for the best batter with their opening pick. They chose 20 year old second baseman Ross Barnes. Ross has excellent contact ability and has shown in the couple of seasons he has played amateur ball that he can get a large amount of hits. The club hope this will lead to some wins. The second player drafted by the White Stockings was 20 year old pitcher Al Spalding. Both Spalding himself and also experts at this paper were surprised to find he was still available for the White Stockings to draft. Spalding is expected to be a top notch pitcher in his career so it may be a good time to be a White Stockings fan.

The new professional baseball league MLB has decided that our home city of Cincinnati is worthy of hosting one of their new ball clubs. The Cincinnati team is called the Reds and we here at the Reporter are looking forward to bringing all you baseball fans lots of action and thrills from their season. To this end we have given a little summary of the team below to get you all started.

Name: coach_151.png

The Cincinnati Reds are owned by 47 year old Canadian Jerome Ferrand. Mr Farrand has made his fortune in the logging trade and this has taught him to be very trusting and forgiving of his workers as they struggle with all the challenges they face in work situations. He also has a very generous streak with his money and is always seen at charity functions providing his financial help. Hopefully he will be bringing these traits to the ball club as well which could help to take the Reds far. The day to day running of the club will be handled by GM Todd Bett. This 31 year old is very inexperienced at running a baseball club but has said he will bring lots of enthusiasm to the role.

The Reds will be playing their home games at the 4000 capacity Avenue Grounds. The ground is based just north of the centre of the city near to the stockyards. The prices are reasonable at 17 cents per person and the club would be very happy to see you.

The players that are hoping to entertain the fans this year are detailed below.

The first draft pick for the Cincinnati Reds was used to take 23 year old pitcher Al Pratt. Pratt is seen as a solid pitcher who can have the batters struggling to hit the ball with his movement. The second round draft pick was 21 year old catcher Cal McVey. This 21 year old has only just started his career and will need all his skills to help him catch for Al Pratt.

The Cleveland Forest Citys are the new professional baseball team in the City of Cleveland. While their name may be a bit of a mouth full we here at the Daily News are glad to welcome the team to Cleveland. We will be reporting on all the highs and lows for the team to keep you the fan informed at every step of the season. Below is a review of the team to get you started.

Name: coach_146.png

The Cleveland Forest Citys have been purchased by 52 year old Alex Fields from Garfield New Jersey. Mr Fields has used the money he earned from the mills in his home area to purchase the team. His reputation is that he can be very demanding of his employees and expects results very quickly. To help with this he is happy to provide any necessary funds that his employees need to get the job done. This means that new GM, 58 year old Troy Willis, will need to be on his game to use the available funds to get to where Mr Fields sees the team. Mr Willis has 20 years of sports business management to help him in this.

The Forest Citys wil play their home games at the 3000 capacity National Association Grounds in the city of Cleveland. The price of tickets for fans has been set at 17 cents and fans can expect a good time out according to the owner.

The players hoping to provide these good times include the following

The first round draft pick was the experienced 28 year old pitcher Rynie Wolters. Experts are not sure if he will provide all the fire power the team need as he has been around the amateur leagues a while and his skills have not improved to where he dominates the best batters. To counter this slight lack of fire power the club has drafted 21 year old center fielder Dave Eggler. Eggler has shown in the few games he has played in the amateur leagues that he is going to be an exceptional contact hitter and should go far in the game.

The MLB has decided that, due to the strong Amateur Baseball leagues in our city, they will award the Athletics franchise to Philadelphia. This will continue the strong baseball links this city has as the sport becomes professional. We at the Inquirer will bring you all the news from this new endeavour in Baseball.

As well as being based in Philadelphia the franchise was also awarded to 57 year old Local Business man Henry Canning. Henry, who is big in the textile and clothing industry, is seen by his employees as a tolerant man but can stop you in your tracks if you push him to far. He does like to spend his cash though so the team should be stable financially. Mr Canning is currently running the team himself as he looks for a new GM to take charge of the day to day running.

The Athletics will be playing their home games at the 5000 capacity Jefferson Street Grounds in central Philadelphia. The price of admission has been tagged at 17 cents per person and all persons are welcome to see the team play.

Talking of the team the following players were selected in the Inaugural Draft

The first round draft pick was used to select local 23 year old starting pitcher Dick McBride. McBride has shown some good form in the amateur leagues here in Philadelphia and will hopefully bring that with him to the professional game. The first batter was drafted in the second round. This selection bought experienced 27 year old second baseman Jimmy Wood to the team. This toung man has been around the Amateur game for a few seasons and this has led him to be one of the few feared batters out their.

The team has been bought by 52 year old Carl Goodridge from Chicago. Carl has built his fortune in the import and export business between northern USA and Canada. Due to the ups and down in this line of business, Mr Goodridge can be seen as demanding of his employees to get everything right for his prospective buyers and sellers. This doesn't stop him spending his money when needed to get things right. His first task was to hire 53 year old GM Gabriel Morgan. Morgan brings a large amount of experience with him from running teams in the amateur leagues and will be aiming to get things right for his boss.

The team itself will play their home games at the 1000 capacity Grand Avenue Park which is based in central St. Louis. The price for entry has been set at 17 cents per person and all are welcome.

The players that will be entertaining the paying fans are shown below.

The first draft pick of the Brown Stockings is 26 year old starting pitcher George Zettlein. Zettlein has been playing amateur ball for a few years and has perfected his style of pitching that will see many batters struggling to locate the ball as he puts it just where he wants it. To complement this tough pitching the Brown Stockings then went an drafted the number one prospect in the draft in the form of 18 year old third baseman Cap Anson. Anson has only just started playing baseball but all the experts think he has everything to play at the top level for a long time.

We have reached opening day for the Inaugural MLB season. The Canaries have been in training getting ready for this day and are raring to go.

The experts from the MLB front office have issued the independent look at the upcoming season and are saying that they expect our Canaries to finish at .500 with a 15 and 15 record to finish second in the AL.

One piece of news to report for our team is the signing of Norberto Ortiz as the clubs GM. The 39 year old Ortiz is fairly inexperienced and will need all of his skills to get the club to the point that the owner wants.

The team has 5 games scheduled for the month of April
They play away at the Cleveland Forest Citys on the 1 of April, 8 of April and 17 of April.
They have two home games this month against the Philadelphia Athletics on 22 April and 26 April.

We will bring you all of the news for these games next month.

1st April 1871

The fans of the Forest City's team in Cleveland have been buying their tickets for the opening game in their hundreds. This is all down to the fact that the team's players have been on a charm offensive to get the fans in.

They have been doing this due to the fact that the leagues widely anticipated independent league prediction review has been published and for Cleveland it is not so good. The predictions show the Cleveland Forest City's managing to play sub par ball in the AL to finish third with a record of 14 and 16. The players and fans alike are hoping for better.

There have been no staffing changes at the club.

The opening games for the Forest City's will be a 3 game home stand against the Baltimore Canaries. This includes the first ever game to be played in the new MLB on 1 April. The other 2 games will be played on the 8 and 17 April. The final 2 games of the month are on the 20 and 28 of April and will also be home games against the St. Louis Brown Stockings.

We will bring you the news from these games next month.

1st April 1871

The players of the Philadelphia Athletics have been hard at work getting ready for what will be a tough season.

This is shown in the predictions from the independent league predicting panel. This panel has said that the Athletics are going to have a very hard season and will manage only a 10 and 20 record which will put them last in the AL.

One of the reasons for this may be that the club only hired its new GM on the 1 February. 44 year old Luis Garcia brings experience to the club but needs to work hard if the Athletics are going to get anything from the season.

The season starts with a 3 game road trip to the highly fancied St. Louis Brown Stockings on the 5, 11 and 16 April. This is followed by 2 games away to the Baltimore Canaries on the 22 and 26 April.

We will report all the news from these games next month.

1st April 1871

The St. Louis fans have been snapping up tickets for the inaugural season of the MLB as they get ready for some fine actions on the diamond.

The reason for this is that the prediction panel has rated their team as the best in the AL. They expect the team to gain a record of 22 and 8 for the season and run away with the AL title. This would put the Brown Stockings in the Championship games and every fans wants too be there to see that.

There have been no off season moves of personnel

The Brown Stockings start with a home stand against the Philadelphia Athletics on the 5, 11 and 16 of April. This is followed by a trip to Cleveland where games will be played on the 20 and 28 of April.

All the news from these games will be reported next month.

The opening day in the MLB has arrived and all the fans are looking forward to see how their team will do.

We have heard from the MLB front office with the independent predictions for the year. It has put our Red Stockings in bottom place in the NL with a record of 13 and 17. All that we at the Chronicle can say to that is we hope that all of the training that the players have been doing will lead to an upset of this prediction.

There has been no player movement since the start of the year.

The team's fixtures for the month include a 3 game home stand against the Chicago White Stockings on the 4, 7 and 13 of April. They then have two away games at the Brooklyn Atlantics on the 23 and 30 April.

We will bring you all the news and updates from these games next month.

The Atlantics have had a very good off season with all of the players returning to the club fit and raring to go for the new season.

The Independent League predictions have been made and they have given the fans a lot to discuss. For our Brooklyn Atlantics the predictions are showing a steady year. The experts think they will manage to play .500 ball and finish with a 15 and 15 record. We here at the Recorder hope the season will be a little better than this but only the real games will tell.

There has been no movement in players or staff in the off season.

The Atlantics will be playing 5 games in April.
They start their campaign on the road to the Cincinnati Reds on the 2, 10 and 14 of April.
This is followed by 2 home games against the Boston Red Stockings on the 23 and 30 April.

The fans themselves would take that today if offered as they could then be looking forward to a wonderful trip to the inaugural League Championship games.

There have been no movements of players or staff during the offseason.

The White Stockings start the campaign with a 3 game road trip to the Boston Red Stockings on the 4, 7 and 13 of April. This is followed by 2 home games against the Cincinnati Reds on the 19 and 24 April.

The Cincinnati Reds players have been back at the training ground for a couple of weeks now as they prepare for the Inaugural MLB season. The fans have been eager to watch their new stars work out and have enjoyed the open training sessions that have been held on occasion.

These open sessions have helped the fans come to know their new team which is possibly why they are a little disappointed in the independent league predictions for their team. The experts are predicting that the Reds will have a slightly below par season with a 14 and 16 record and third place in the NL. The fans are saying that the team looks stronger than that and are expecting better.

There have been no player or front office movements since the opening day draft.

The fixtures awaiting the fans for the month of April are a 3 game home stand against the Brooklyn Atlantics on the 2, 10 and 14 of April followed by 2 away games against the Chicago White Stockings on the 19 and 24 of April.

The fans of the Baltimore Canaries have enjoyed the start to the inaugural MLB season as the Canaries produced some wonderful displays with bat and ball in the month of April.

The Baltimore Canaries managed to work a record of 4-1 for the month. This 4-1 record places them in second place in the AL, 1 game behind the surging St. Louis Brown Stockings.

This was done on the back of some very solid pitching by Cherokee Fisher. The 26 year old Fisher showed all of his experience as he started and completed all 5 games during the month. This led to figures of 45 innings pitched with 41 hits and 15 earned runs against him giving him an ERA of 3.00. These figures were good enough to win him the AL Pitcher of the Month Award from the MLB voting panel. The team gave up 20 runs in total.

On the batting front the star of the show was 18 year old third baseman Henry Kohler. He belied his young age and managed to hit .421 for the month of April. He started 5 games with 19 at bats which produced 8 hits, 6 runs and 6 RBI's.

1st May 1871

The inaugural season for the Boston Red Stockings has started with an up and down month. They managed to win 3 games during the month but also fell to 2 losses during the month.

This 3-2 record was good enough to place them second in the NL, 1 game behind the leading Cincinnati Reds.

The 3-2 record was built on solid batting in the games that they won. Scott Hastings was the batter that produced the best figures for the month. He hit .423 in the month of April. He played 5 games with 26 at bats. This produced 11 hits, 6 runs and 6 RBI's.

The pitching struggled a little in the month of April. Youngster Bobby Mathews started all five games and picked up the 3-2 record with an ERA of 5.12. This included 38.2 innings pitched with 66 hits and 22 earned runs against him. He was let down by his fielders as the team gave up 43 runs while he was pitching. The relief pitching wasn't any better giving up another 16 runs in 6.1 innings.

The Brooklyn Atlantics fans are looking very glum after the first month of the MLB season. Their team managed to find a way to disappoint them with a record of 1-4. This puts them last in the NL a full 3 games behind the leading Cincinnati Reds.

Name: John_McMullin.jpg
Views: 1290
Size: 9.6 KB

This woeful performance can be seen as the fault of the batting and fielding on the team. The Pitching attempted to provide the wins with John McMullin starting and completing all 5 games. He pitched 41 innings and had 49 hits against him with 11 earned runs scored from his pitching. This gave him an ERA of 2.41.

The Atlantics gave up 35 runs in total over the month most of which were down to fielding errors.

The batting managed to score only 29 runs in the 5 games played. This was the worst of any team in the NL and the reason for the poor team record. There was one highlight in the batting in the form of third baseman Davey Force who hit an average of .440 in the 5 games he played in April. This included 25 at bats with 11 hits, 4 runs scored and 6 RBI's. Against this he was the worst offender in the error counts with 9 in the 5 games.

The Brooklyn Atlantics will play 4 games in May. They will complete the Red Stockings series on the 8 May and then play a 3 game set against the Chicago White Stockings on the 10, 20 and 26 May.

We will hopefully give a more upbeat monthly report next month on these games.

The Chicago White Stockings fans are trying to work out if April's performances were a blip or if the league experts got the predictions all wrong. The team managed to post a record of 2-3 in April which is far below the level of expectations that the fans had built up. This left them in third place in the NL, 2 games behind the leaders the Cincinnati Reds.

The batting tried its best to win the games by scoring 55 runs in the month of April. The best performance with the bat was 20 year old Short Stop Ross Barnes. He managed to post an average of .440 in the month. This was gained from 25 at bats which produced 11 hits, 7 runs and 3 RBI's.

The NL Batter of the Month went to Right Fielder Charlie Mills. He played 3 games with 12 at bats which produced 8 hits, 5 runs and 6 RBI's. He posted an average of .667.

The pitching was led by Al Spalding who posted a 2-3 record with an ERA of 3.73. He had 49 hits against him and gave up 13 earned runs. There were also another 35 runs given up by the team from both errors and relief pitching.

The fans of the Cincinnati Reds cannot believe their luck. The team has produced an excellent start to the season with a 4-1 record to have them sitting top of the NL. They lead the division by 1 game at this early stage.

Name: Al_Pratt.jpg
Views: 1278
Size: 25.5 KB

The record was built on the back of some excellent pitching. Al Pratt started all 5 games in the month and managed to collect a 4-0 record on the mound. The only loss went to relief pitcher Bill Stearns. While the team gave up 24 runs when Pratt was pitching only 6 of those were given as earned runs against him. This led to him having an ERA of 1.23 for the month from 44.0 innings pitched. This along with his strong work ethic made him the obvious choice for the NL pitcher of the Month award for April. This also earned him the first Rookie of the Month award in the NL.

The batting backed up this strong pitching by scoring enough runs to get the wins. The best of the batting came in the form of experienced first baseman Joe Start. Start posted an excellent .478 average for the month which included 11 hits, 5 runs and 2 RBI's from 23 at bats.

The Cleveland Forest City's team has shown a decided lack of skill this past month which has led them to have the worst record of all MLB teams on the month. They have not managed a single win for the fans to cheer as they moved to 0-5 and bottom of the AL. As you can guess they are 5 games behind the leaders the St. Louis Brown Stockings.

Name: Dave_Eggler.jpg

This poor performance has been down to the pitching and batting both in equals measure.

The Batting has only managed to collect 25 runs in the month. The highlight was Centre Fielder Dave Eggler who has managed an average of .429 in his 5 games played. He had 9 hits, 3 runs and 4 RBI's from 21 at bats. Ed Duffy has suffered a massive 13 fielding errors during the 5 games which has not helped the cause.

The pitching has also been poor in the month letting 79 runs go. Most of this thankfully has not been attributed to starting pitcher Rynie Wolters. Wolters has pitched all 5 games with 45 innings pitched for an ERA of 4.80. He had 70 hits against him and lost 24 earned runs. Most of the other runs can be linked to bad fielding by the other team members.

1st May 1871

The Philadelphia Athletics tried their hardest during April to produce the form that the fans wanted but just couldn't seem to find the way to win as they managed a 1-4 record. This places them third in the AL 4 games off of first place. The problem seemed to be in the run scoring department as they managed only 33 runs.

Name: Dick_McBride.jpg
Views: 1273

The pitching was solid if unspectacular. Dick McBride managing to pitch 5 complete games. He allowed 10 earned runs from 49 hits against him in 42 innings pitched giving him an a solid ERA of 2.13. The team also allowed another 37 runs from errors.

The batting, while not scoring that many runs, did have 2 bright sparks that bode well for the future. These were Catcher Doug Allison and third baseman Andy Leonard. Allison hit .435 for the month with 10 hits, 5 runs and 6 RBI's from 23 at bats and Leonard had an ERA of .429 with 9 hits, 3 runs and 7 RBI's from 21 at bats.

The error count for Charlie Smith was atrocious at 19 in 5 games. The fans will be hoping he is having extra fielding practice to bring this count down.

St. Louis Brown Stockings fans have been all smiles in April. This is due to the fact that their team has managed to record a perfect record of 5-0 in April.

Name: George_Hall.jpg

Size: 9.0 KB

This was achieved on the back of some hot bats. They managed to score 72 runs in 5 games in April. The best of this strong batting line up was 22 year old Centre Fielder George Hall. Hall hit an excellent .400 in April with 10 hits, 9 runs and 11 RBI's from 25 at bats. Starting Pitcher George Zettlein also caused a little surprise as he managed .421 on the month. This is unheard of from a pitcher. Hall also picked up the AL Batter of the Month award.

Speaking of the pitching Zettlein in his day job started all five games and pitched 39.2 innings. He managed to get a 4-0 record in these games with an ERA of 3.63. He had 50 hits and 16 earned runs posted against him. The team let another 17 runs go on his pitching. The other win was posted by reliever Frank Fleet. Due to his combination of pitching and batting George Zettlein managed to pick up the Rookie of the Month award in the AL.
