(non OOTP) FBCB 2010 semi-historical 1910-????

Well, since nobody said I couldn't, I'm going to share my college basketball semi-historical replay with all you baseball fans. I'll be using Fastbreak College Basketball 2010 (which I'm not even sure you can buy anymore, the forums are deader than dead), and from my testing I am pushing the game beyond what it was really designed to do. So, first, the big restrictions.

1) Teams and conferences can only be added in progress, not deleted, so only teams/conferences that have an unbroken run of activity are included. This particularly pains me since it means no Southwest Conference.

2) I have to have at least one preseason tournament, otherwise the game crashes, so there will be a 4-team preseason NIT from the beginning. I also have to have the NCAA tournament with 32 teams from the beginning, so a lot of teams are going to get a number of appearances by default until I get far enough along to have a large number of teams. The NIT has to have at least 32 as well.

But, there's good stuff.

1) I can make the NIT, CBI, and CIT start on time, as well as the numerous preseason tournaments, and more or less have the right number of teams involved.

2) No auto-bids until 1974 (the first year as best I could determine), conference tournaments start on time, and no 3-point line until 1986.

3) Juniors start leaving in 1971, recruits start going pro in 1994, and the one-and-done rule comes in for 2005, more or less reproducing the historical trends.

I think that covers all the big stuff. I'll be auto-saving weekly just in case I accidentally crash the game. Mostly it will be weekly Top 25's, standings (once they matter), and such. If you guys want daily results, I can do those too.

Lastly, if this is too off-topic, the mods can move this wherever it needs to go.

Here's the starting alignment for 1910, consisting of 92 teams. Prestige is from 0-100. I set the initial prestige based on average winning percentage for the 4 years prior, per sports-reference.com, treating inactive years as 0. It will change dynamically afterward, as will conference prestige. All conferences will play a double-round-robin unless there are too many teams.

Good plan. I'm a fellow FBCB-er. Just another notion, FOFC forums are full of people who play FBCB too, so a number of FBCB dynasties so you won't feel like a stranger in a stranger land. But...all the better over here too!

Would like to have seen Kentucky get that home win over Bucknell. Looks like the Cats have a good PG and some big margins of victory lately, but I think we'll need a signature win to make the NCAA. What's the schedule look like the rest of the way? Do we have any more vs the Top 25?

Kentucky's not getting in the tournament. They're 12-10 and it's just a 32-team field (the smallest the game engine will allow). The rest of their games are on the road, including a matchup with current #2 Purdue on February 1. With a starting prestige of just 42, they really are the Neville Wicklund Show.

The 6-1, 220-lb product of Morgantown, KY (Butler County HS), leading the team in minutes, points, and assists while being second (!) in rebounds during his one-and-only season. I'd wager he ends up the first member of Kentucky's hall of honor once I figure out exactly how I'm going to handle that.

Your coach is decent enough, but you don't have a whole lot coming back next season so it might be a while before Kentucky shows up in the tournament.

Syracuse, on the other hand, is loaded. However, the coach isn't a very good scout so maybe not so much in a few years.

Couple things real quick. I happened to notice that a LOT of RPI's aren't anywhere near their top 25 ranking. For example, Texas was #6 in the top 25 and #60 in the RPI. We could see some REALLY weird stuff happen when Selection Sunday rolls around depending on just how much the engine weights the RPI.

Second, a word on coaches for those unfamiliar with FBCB. Each team has a 4-man coaching staff, each of whom is rated in four categories: Recruiting, Scouting, Offense, and Defense. The four positions are Head Coach (uses all four), Lead Scout (only uses Scouting), Recruiting Coordinator (only uses Recruiting), and Assistant Coach (uses Offense and Defense). These guys MATTER, very much so from my single-player experience. This also means that I'll have full coaching histories for everybody so I can detail that Hall-of-Famer's rise from lowly scout to ruler of all things college basketball.
