WarCraft Baseball League
BECAUSE REASONS
I bowed out of Warcraft for this expansion because I am not enjoying it atm. But for some reason no matter how much my team sucks I never get tired of baseball... I have always wondered about those NPCs in Warcraft. When you're not there, what are they doing? Sometimes when you fly into a zone it takes them a few seconds to appear. Is it because they're quickly ending their conversations and putting away card tables and cleaning up meals? Do they have lives outside your interaction with them? Do they have interests? Hobbies? Do they... play ball? Yes they do. When we are not there, often during the early morning hours on mostly-vacant PvP servers, they scuttle off to arenas in abandoned areas of the world and participate in friendly competition. They have a pride league, with each playable race (and two for the multi-faction Pandaren) sporting its own team of secret baseball aficionados. I haven't constructed the rules yet, but I imagine that there won't be trades and pretty limited roster changes altogether. Personnel will probably only change when people retire. I have the logos designed and the rosters are under construction, after that I would love to make some warcraft-y ballparks, like the Gurubashi Arena, etc. Anyway, enjoy. The team rosters so far Bilgewater Goblins Darkspear Trolls Darnassus Night Elves Exodar Draenei Gilneas Worgen Gnomeregan Gnomes Fear that Gnome strike zone |

Who are the shortest and tallest players you have? In my EBL vs MLB league the shortest is an Ewok, Wicket at 4'11. Decent 1B with over 2000 Hits. The tallest is one of the few Wookies at 7'6, a Indy league pitcher in the Tatooine league.

So far it would probably be Big Baobob, he's about 18 feet tall. Shortest... probably Fiznak, he's an imp. (Not that you can actually make players that tall, there's a limit)

I don't want to sound racist, but isn't first base a wookie's position? Ewoks are more suited for middle infield IMHO.

I'm not entirely sure what to do after the season. I've locked down the rosters for this year so despite injuries, etc. the teams are unable to make any transactions. This has hurt some teams because the depth charts get all wonky, you have middle relievers starting games, people playing out of position, etc. They need fresh blood.
So if I want to keep it going - players will also retire - I need to make another player pool to draw from for each team, kind of like a reserve list or minor league, filled with non-famous-NPC players. Also, I was thinking about making International Free Agents available, and making all of them be from one of the non-playable races (timbermaw, quillboar, centaur, harpy, grummle, etc.). Possible minor league team locations Goblins - Undermine Tauren - Bloodhoof Village Orcs - Crossroads Firepaw - Thunder Hold Trolls - Zuldazar Forsaken - Tarren Mill Blood Elves - Tranquillen Night Elves - Nighthaven Gnomes - Bael Modan Worgen - Howling Oak Cloudsinger - Pearlfin Village Draenei - Azure Watch Dwarves - Aerie Peak Humans - Theramore Also, I need to make some stadium designs. I have recreated the entire world - countries, cities, population, etc. I have also created all of the different ethnicities. I haven't implemented it in this database because I encountered an error before, and I'm not real adept at managing my XML and merging things. What I would really like to be able to do is to create a default image that can be used based on either what country of origin the player is from or what ethnicity they are. FaceGen is great, but it doesn't produce anything that looks like an Orc. The problem is that when team rosters change organically I will need to track down all of the players and change their non-fantasy names and choose their default portrait. |
