The Oriole Way - OOTP16 and Beyond
For my first attempt at a dynasty, I'll be taking my hometown Baltimore Orioles.
I'll be playing in GM only, and keep Buck Showalter as my manager, despite the fact that he won't listen to any of my ideas about strategy. Thanks Buck. For my settings, I'll be using 2-8 scale with 20-80 overall/potential. This mimics real life, while still keeping some fog. AI evaluation is on, and I'm using the somewhat unpopular 40-40-10-10. I've used this setting before, and it works great for me. I have all the international and independent leagues in, and thus have all player ratings displayed relative to the league. Also checked is "overall based on all players, not positions.". Again, just my preferences. The only other modifications made were to set top prospect ratings to dynamic, institute a posting system to the KBO, and to turn off the creation of international established FA's and FA's from independent leagues, since the international and independent leagues are already included. And so it begins. |

Looking over the team, it's solid, however, there are a few holes. As much as I love Ryan Flaherty, he's not a starter, so I need a second baseman. Corner outfield has a few holes as well. And, of course, I need a legit ace.
There are a few trade chips. Both Chris Davis and Bud Norris are in their contract years, and unlikely to return. I will try to bring back Steve Pearce, but Matt Wieters is also likely in his last year. JJ Hardy and Ubaldo Jimenez also are available, and I'll listen on Adam Jones. In the minors, Christian Walker, Tim Berry, Zach Davies, and Dariel Alvarez appear likely to be a factor this year. |

First order of business: second base. I offered Jose Miguel Fernandez a 4 year deal to play there. Hopefully he accepts.

I also offered Luis Yander La O Camacho a five year deal. While there is no obvious place for him, we could use a DH.

Pittsburgh has offered me Corey Hart and $1,990,000 for Caleb Joseph and Christian Walker. Not sure where Neil Huntington's brain was, but it clearly did not follow him to work. Rejected.

Boston has placed Sandy Leon on waivers. I prefer his defense to Ryan Lavarnway's, so I placed a claim.

Pittsburgh is determined. They offered Corey Hart for Everth Cabrera and Christian Walker. I make a counter-offer, removing Walker, and the Pirates are happy to accept.
Orioles send: SS Everth Cabrera Pirates send: 1B/RF Corey Hart |

OPENING DAY!!!
The preseason predictions are up, and they peg the O's at 88-74, winning the division by 5 games. Corey Hart is projected to be a top-10 hitter, with a .281/.339/.490 line with 28 bombs. That's nice. Byron Buxton is the top prospect in baseball. If you say so. Orioles don't play until tomorrow, so today I just offered 3 minors deals, to Greg Miclat, Carlos Perez, and Yosvani Bell. DFA'd Jayson Nix. He should clear and head to AAA. The Marlins offered Martin Prado for Alejandro de Aza and Dariel Alvarez. I removed Alvarez and included Tommy Hunter, and asked for Brad Hand in return. Deal. Orioles send LF Alejandro de Aza RP Tommy Hunter Marlins send 2B Martin Prado RP Brad Hand There are 4 lefties in my bullpen, but that's okay, as none of them should be too bad against righties. Took the time to shop Ubaldo. No takers. |

Cubs topped the Cardinals 7-3 on Opening Night. Lester gave 7 solid innings, with the only mistake being a 2 run homer off the bat of Yadier Molina in the first. Anthony Rizzo homered and drove in 3 for the Cubs.
Today the Orioles play the Rays. Wei-Yin Chen vs Chris Archer in Tropicana. (I will post weekly updates except for important games or special games, i.e. Opening Day or a no-hitter.) |

Rays won 4-2 on Opening Day. Ryan Flaherty had a homer in the loss. Manny Machado had two costly errors that led to unearned runs.

Jose Miguel Fernandez has signed. Luis Yander La O Camacho needed more money, so I gave it to him.

Super-utility guy Pedro Ciriaco and starting pitcher Chris Young were on waivers. Orioles put in a claim on both.

David Lough has been sent on a rehab assignment. It might be a long one, considering that he's out of options and I have no place on the roster currently.
