Phillies Savior?

*Authors Note*
Hello everyone, I'm phillyboy19 and I just want to let all of you know my format is terrible in the beginning. While I could go back and change it I feel as that would remove the authenticy of my work. I believe it's better to show how much I've improved as a writer and just to leave it as it once was. Thanks for reading everyone and have a nice day.

Hello I'm Bo Miller and I'm the new gm of the Philadelphia Phillies. Ruben Amaro Jr. was fired so there were a few minor personnel changes when I came on board.
First my head scout was promoted to Assistant GM partially because he's a great baseball mind, but manly because we don't see eye to eye on player evaluations as he favors ability and I favor tools.
I will update you on my moves throughout the season checking back after the draft after the trade deadline and at the end of the season. I will then post an off season update before the next season starts.
I did make one move as the gm of the Phillies so far which was trading long time Phillie, club house leader, and fan favorite Chase Utley to the Cleveland Indians. Also included in the deal was out fielder Ben Revere Starting Pitching Prospect Matt Imhof and Starting Pitcher Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez. In return we got 20 year old Center Field Prospect Clint Frazor 16 year old Left Fielder Christopher Cespedez and 18 year old Justice Sheffield.
The Indians needed Utley and Revere for Frazior, and needed Imhof for sheffield. Cespedez is a guy we see with a lot of potential but they don't feel the same because they didn't want anything extra for him. Alfredo Gonzalez was just thrown in to clear salary we could have kept him and the trade would have still gone through.

Real Talk

Hello I've had a bunch of failed dynasty this year and my only one I truly carried through with was my iootp 14 Phillies dynasty, but last nights Cole Hamles trade inspired me to do this, basically I'm going to make every trade that the phillies made this deadline (so yes force trade if need be) and build from there. I can initiate my own trades and I can cut and sign whomever I want. The only exception to the deadline deals is that if Utley or Revere get traded I can't do those, although to compensate for that I'll try to acquire those players and just give them whatever.

Top 5 Draft Picks
Tyler Stephenson C/LF All around great hitter plan to convert into a left fielder
Travis Blankenhorn 3B As with Stephenson all around great hitter with exceptional defense
Juan Hillman LHSP Risky pick throws 90-92 flyball tendency potential for great control and slightly above average movement. His MLB career depends on if his change up develops into a deadly weapon as it says. Not good enough stuff for reliever.
Tristan Beck RHSP Soft tossing righty 88-90 who's velocity should improve as he bulks up is big but light 6'3 160 great control potential slightly above average control solid stuff potential. Potential reliever if he doesn't develop as a starter.
Alex Webb C Solid defensive catcher below average contact and strike outs solid everywhere else

8/1/15 Post Trade Deadline Update

Hello Phillie nation it's your new GM Bo back here with our deadline update! Before we talk about our deals Let's talk about the team.
We are to be blunt a big screw up in the majors. Mainly because of my predecessors ineptness at the position, and partially because I traded the movable pieces.
We have a 39-65 record as of August 1st we are 29gb and has the worst record in the majors. At least we have a top 5 pick, because if we start winning some how we won't improve that much. We've had a few bright spots at least a few potential building blocks hopefully. First of all and the most surprising young arm Adam Morgan has a horrible record (1-10) but that's because he gets no run support. He also sports a bad whip (1.58). You may think why do we consider him as a plus this year, it's because of his relatively low era (4.14) but what we love about him is his fip (3.13) so he has been solid. Our scout doesn't think of him as much if he continues this he'll definitely get a shot next year.
We also like Chad Billingsley's comeback and we resigned him for 3 million but he is hurt again diagnosis pending, now I wish we waited for the extension. You know what your getting from him so I wont go as in depth with Morgan he is 7-7 with a 3.61 era a 3.37 fip and a 1.17 whip. He's been elite this year and we hope his injury is minor i'll update you when we get the diagnosis.
Young Rookie Third Baseman Maikel Franco came up and has been very good. I may as well tell you the bads off the start. His Average and On Base Percentage are extremely low but I believe should improve over time, because he should continue to grow and has a low babip. .244 .284 and .264 Now the good He is one of 4 players with a slugging percentaage over .400 with a .430 and that would be higher if his babip was good to. He has been slugging the ball pretty well with 11 hr's and 36 rbi's. He also has been a surprisingly good defender with a 3.8 zone rating a .965 fielding percentage and a 1.028 fielding efficiency. So I feel like he's been very solid and has been better than his numbers suggest.
This will be our last player highlight as Domonic Brown is our last bright spot that isn't already established (Ken Giles) or doesn't have a future with our team (Cesar Jimenez)
Domonic Brown has had an interesting career to say the least. He came up in 2010 as the #1 prospect in baseball. He struggled at the time, but wasn't written off by anyone because of his potential and young age. In 2011 we saw minor improvement but again still only 23 still has a lot of potential. He played in 56 games that year, and was sent down once we aquired Hunter Pence. Now 2012 again still just 24 people were starting to worry he'll never be what he was expected of because although we still had Pence was stuck in the minors. He was down there for everyday playing time so it was the right choice on the Phils. Once Pence traded to San Francisco they brought him back up to start. Other than knocking in a few more runs he regressed across the board offensively and people started to worry. In 2013 at age 25 it was a make or break year. you really couldn't make the argument that he's young and inexperienced because he played 147 career MLB games so he had about a year total under his belt. He finally looked like he he reached his potential hitting 23 home runs before the break and making the all star team. He looked to be face of the franchise, but he struggled in the second half and although his numbers for the season were still very good, his doubters still remained based off his second half swoon and they were right. 2014 was a year to forget. Combined with his horrible defense and loss of power people gave up on him. The hot start to 2013 was a fluke he won't reach that potential maybe he never had it, but now it seemed like there were no believers. Now we're caught up. Why did I go in depth into his career, it's because I'm still a believer, and he's starting to regain his pre all star break 2013 form. He's not at that leval but he's been very good so far.
His numbers are 13 hr's 38 rbi's a .274 avg. a .365 obp and a .490 slugging percentage. Those are pretty good numbers especially considering he was hurt at the beginning of the year and has only played 69 games. Obviously his offense has been good but what about his defense? Well I'll answer that. Domonic Brownish. That's not good. He'd be better as a DH but alas we're in the national league. He has a -6.3 zone rating a good .992 fielding percentage and a terrible .933 fielding efficiency. So I like what I've seen and hopefully he keeps it up.
Now after a longer than expected team summery let's go into the transactions. First of all we claimed SS Hector Gomez off waivers and he joined the team today. We also signed all of our draft picks except for 2 that had no future with the club with low potentials. Now onto the most important aspect the trades.
On July 6th we made a trade with the Pirates.
Pirates-LHSP Cliff Lee
Phillies-RHSP Mitch Keller, and SS Cole Tucker
I like the trade because it gives us a potential top of the rotation starter and a very good young SS who we hope we can convert to second base or at least teach it to him for positional versatility. I believe we are the victors of the trade based off of Cliff Lee being 36 and should steeply decline soon. Our two prospects are still very young and are a few years away. Both are tearing up high a ball.
Our second trade was made on July 27th with the Washington Nationals
Nationals-Cl Jonathen Papelbon
Phillies-SP Nick Pivetta
I like the trade because it gives Ken Giles a chance to close who's been lights out this year, we get a guy who our scout isn't to found of but is highly regarded across the league and is a good asset. Also Pap was god awful this year. Pivetta is in High A and should go to Double AA soon and may get the call later today.
Our 3rd trade took place on 7/29/15 with the Texas Rangers
Rangers-[B]LHSP Cole Hamels, LHRP Jake Diekman[B] and 3 million in cash
Phillies-RHSP's Alec Asher, Jake Thompson, and Kyle Eickhoff, LHSP Matt Harrison, LF Nick Williams, and C Jorge Alfaro.
We had to give up the face of the Franchise in Cole Hamels a good lefty reliever in Diekman, and $3,000,000. But we get some very good prospects and we're taking on a salary in Matt Harrison. Asher and Eikhoff are better viewed around the league, but we love Thompson, Williams and Alfaro. We see them as the future faces of the franchise. Eikhoff and Asher report to AAA Harrison to the majors and the rest go to AA.
That was our deadline. I love all of our trades and we now have the 3rd best system in baseball. I think we're set up for a positive future and if 40% of out prospects we got develop we're set up. I view prospects as they are a must for teams to acquire chips and become studs. Basically if you're a win now team you use them to acquire talent, and once you run out you have to rebuild once the window closes because you have nothing. When you rebuild you have to estimate how long it will take and if your best player won't be there in that time period you acquire prospects to become your future stars. Simple right? In ways it is but they're not easy to get, and they're like a deck of cards some are your studs your royal flushes and some are duds or your folds, and some are in the middle. It's a guessing game but if you hit big on roughly half of them maybe a bit less maybe a bit more it's a success but you need them to build a successful team and organization.

Billingsly is getting Tommy John surgery. Out 10-11 months could potentially get him back by June and just signed Joel Hanrahan to a minor league deal, although he can't play this year I figured I'd do this because I get first dibs on him next year because we can extend him, and not have to get in a bidding war.

End of Season/Offseason Preview

Hello it's Bo. After a disappointing season it's not fun to reflect on it. Well you have to and judging by our record 63-99 which was good enough to "earn" the 1st pick in the draft, I've come to the conclusion that basically we need upgrades everywhere, including a personal overhaul. The only coach coming back is bench coach Larry Bowa who will be promoted to manager if we can't get recently fired manager Mike Scioscia to sign with us.

Reflecting on players

Darin Ruf quietly put up good numbers with 25 home runs and 75 rbi's he really picked it up in the 2nd half. Maikel Franco's second half saw a minor drop in power .416 slugging percentage 16 home runs 64 rbi's but his babip rose a bit and so did his average and obp. .247 .285 .275 I'm really excited for him. Domonic Brown like 2013 cooled off in the second half but not as badly. .253 .326 .453 isn't bad but look at his first half numbers, he really struggled. He still managed to hit 20 home runs with 62 rbi's Alec Asher who we acquired in the Cole Hamels deal surprisingly made his debut in August in 8 starts split by a minor injury which sidelined him for 3 weeks he was 1-3 4.27 era 1.42 whip and a poor 5.73 fip I was pleased with him even with the high fip, since I wasn't sure if he was MLB ready. The advanced metrics say no but we'll just have to wait and see. Aaron Nola struggled in his initial season posting a 3-10 in15 starts. He had a 6.29 era 1.64 whip and a 4.92 fip. His sats were bad extremely bad but he and Morgan are the only set rotation pieces next year pending off season moves and horrible springs. Basically for those 2 have a semi decent spring and you have a job.

Offseason Plan

We have 6 arbintration cases Domonic Brown, Freddy Galvis, Brian Bogusevic, Justin De Fretus, Jenmar Gomez, and Cesar Jimenez with Bogusevic and Gomez being non tendard We have 4 free agents Aaron Harang, Jeff Francour, Joel Hanrahan The other is a minor leaguer who has no chance. Only Hanrahan is being offered an extension. Harang also tore his flexor tendon in a rehab start after straining his elbow earlier in the year, I guess it never fully healed.

Now my goals in free agency is to improve the NL's 11th worst bullpen and the worst defense and starting staff. I will be looking at cheap relievers on the market who may just be coming off a down year. I will also be scouting the trade market for young pitchers and position players. I will be trying to build my team around defense and pitching. Offense is a plus to a good defender in my eyes. I'd rather take the defender who is fast and finds ways to get on base than a big power guy with no defense and no speed. That's why I'll be shopping Darin Ruf and Dom Brown. I still believe in both but they don't fit my plan. Crawford should be up next year. Same thing with Alfaro and potentially Williams. Funny thing is I thought it would be the opposite with Williams instead of Alfaro up next year but Williams struggled in AA and Alfaro was promoted to AAA and tore it up. Thompson also has a shot as well.

Those are my plans for this upcoming off season remember go Fightins.

I like how you've acquired the same pieces that the Phils did in their real life deadline deals. It will be interesting to see how that Hamels trade works out.

Yeah I did that on purpose I wanted to see how they would pan out in Philly, obviously it could be completely different for realz but I wanted to see it. Shhh don't tell anyone but I had to use force trade. I wouldn't do that with any other trade because it's cheating but these happened in real life so yeah that's how I justified it, but I'm not using it again.

I'm going to change my format a bit. Obviously my posts are long because I cover so many things in them, such as my major roster moves. From now on I'm posting the moves right as they happen, because #1 my season review so far will be less cluttered and #2 I won't forget to include them and can go further in depth with my analysis. Without further adieu it's time to announce my first off season move which will shore up a few holes.

First day of Off Season Trade 11/3/15

Today is November 3rd 2015. To most it's not important. To baseball fans it is. Just hours after the Oakland Athletics beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-1 in the Fall Classic the Off Season has started. The Philadelphia Phillies started it off with a bang by going on a fire sale firing every coach except Bench Coach Larry Bowa. Now they've made a move to bring in young talent, but giving up a young player who could be good. Now we take you to a live interview with Young Phillies General Manager Bo Miller.
R: Bo you just finished up your first season as manager with the Phillies and fired a bunch of your staff members coming off that horrid season what made you make that decision?
Bo: Well it wasn't easy to say the least, but Ryne (Sandberg) lost the club house they just didn't listen to him, and that's not a good developmental place for our young guys coming up. We fired our pitching and hitting coaches because some of the guys we expected to play well didn't and some of their mechanics fell out of place so it was time for a change.
R: Alright thank you now on to the trade with the New York Yankees. You guys did acquire young players in 1B Greg Bird 2B Rob Refsnyeder and 3B Miguel Andujar, but gave up established players in 1B Darin Ruf RF Dom Brown LF Codey Asche and RHRP Jenmar Gomez. The players you got are very talented but the players you gave up were to. Can you explain why you made this deal?
Bo: Gladly. Basically Dom and Darin were our 2 best offensive players this year, but aren't good defenders which gave up runs too. Plus they are slow and fit better as Designated hitters. Cody was the hardest piece to give up because he's still very young. He was moved to Left Field this season and has developed into a nice defender, but his bat is average which normally I'd be ok with but he's slow too. He kinda fits my type of player with solid defense but he would be relegated to back up duties at some point in the next year or so when (Nick) Williams comes up. Nothing much to say about Gomez is that he was going to be Non Tendered and we figured give him a shot somewhere else.
Bo: Now I like our return because Miguel looks to be a really good corner infielder with a rocket arm. We need to try and teach him first base though because we already have Maikel (Franco) at third doing well there, but Maikel may get some work in at first this spring himself. also Miguel looks to be like Cody with the bat with a bit less contact but more power. Greg Bird was very good in limited action last year in his September audition this year. First base is a position that my philosophy doesn't apply to as much, where I want a bat here and a solid defender, who if he can run that's a plus. Greg fits the bill. Above average defender with an already well developed bat and is as slow as molasses. Finally Rob (Refsnyder) was acquired because he is a solid defender who is an average hitter who ism't exactly fast but can steal a few bags. expect about 15 per year if he is smart. We will work him at third this spring with Maikel at first, not sure where to play Greg this spring but I'll try to add some versatility to his game for sure.
R: Alright thanks for your time today Bo. We hope to talk to you again.
Bo: Yup Thanks you to. Bye.

I have decided to give Brian Bogusevic an arbitration offer, seeing that we traded Dom Brown.

Arbitration Decisions

Just a short update on the decisions of the arbitrator.
Freddy Galvis-$800,000 Team won player wanted $1,268,750
Brian Bogusevic-$761,250 Team won player wanted $1,268,750
Cesar Jiminez-$800,000 Team won player wanted $1,268,750
Justin De Fretus-$1,933,750 Player won Team offered $1,700,000

It seems like the first group planned to all ask for the same number in a team meeting or something. Of them I think Jimenez shoulda asked for more based off his season, but I'm presently surprised we won.

Free Agency Outlook

Now I'm going to go over some of my targets.
Antonio Aguilar 23 CF- Only international free agent worth signing. right now he is only a 1 star player according to my scout with 4 star potential. He is my type of player a great defender and fast. He has average to above average batting potential with high gap power and a good eye. Expect a lot of doubles and a high obp. Will be offered a minor league contract with a $1,000,000 bonus.

Antonio Bastardo 30 LHRP Was traded to the Pirates by us last offseason for Joely Rodriguez. Wants a reasonable $4,200,000 per year to be a very good lefty. He wants 5 years with a player option. I'm giving him 3 years with the 3rd being a team option. He was decent last year with a 3.90 era a 1.40 whip and a 3.63 fip. I'm not expecting a great whip from him with average control, but his movement is great, and his stuff is outstanding.

Josh Johnson 31 RHSP Is one of the better pitchers when he's healthy. He's NEVER healthy that's the problem. He used to be a top 10 maybe top 5 pitcher in the league with the Marlins. Injury's have sapped his skill from him. He's only 31 so he's not expected to go down hill fro here on out. Still has good movement stuff and contol. As my scout says "Josh Johnson is the kind of starter you want. A quality arm at the top of your rotation." His asking price is way to low 1 year 1.3 million. I'm offering 1 year 1.5 million to try to sway him here.

Those are my big 3 free agents I'll be offering a few more deals and I'll talk about the players once they sign.

Rule 5 Draft

12/1/15
R: You picked a left handed reliever today with the first pick in the rule 5 draft can you explain the pick?
Bo: Alright basically look at last years bull pen not good right. So when you have a chance to get a very good left handed reliever in Adam Liebrator with great stuff good movement and very good control. The only knock on him is that he is 28 and hasn't appered in the majors,as most rule 5 draftee's are like. Plus he is a soft tosser. But Overall he's a good pick.

Red face Trade 12/1/15

After the Rule 5 Draft where we also picked up reliever Lisalverto Bonilla but the important news is we made a trade with the Cardinals.

Cardinals-LHRP Anthony Vazquez, RF Dylan Cozens, RHRP Oscar Marcelino, CF Aaron Brown, C Devi Grullen
Phllies-LHRP Diego Cordero, RF Stephen Piscotty
What started off as a deal for Justin De Fretus ended up as us giving up some fringe prospects for a potential future closer (Cordero) and a great defensive outfielder (Piscotty) has solid speed and has good contact good gap power and doesn't strike out much. His power is below average for a left fielder and average overall. He has no discipline. We gave up a few career minor leaguers, a platoon player in Cozens a defensive catcher in Grullen and a solid prospect in Brown. I believe the package was worth it for the potential shut down reliever and and got a good young starting right fielder in Piscotty. Right Field is the weakest position in our farm system. I feel like it was a good trade for both teams however because the Cardinals need a young catcher to take over for (Yadier) Molina in a few years and Grullen is a few years away so he could be the guy. They also needed outfield depth. We need young guys and prospects.

Winter Meetings Trade 12/19/15

Today we made another trade. This time with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Dodgers- C Tommy Joseph, LHSP Yoel Mecias, CF Roman Quinn
Phillies- RHSP Grant Holmes

By the OSA's standards we gave up a lot for a stud prospect maybe a little to much cuz they think we gave up 2 stud prospects for one and then Tommy Joseph who they like a bit more than me. We actually like Quinn a lot our selves but he was a must for the trade to go through. Our scout loves him a short stop but he's blocked there and he's blocked in center field as well so that made him expendable. [B]Mecias [/B ]wasn't liked much by our scout and was liked a lot by the osa to be a solid mid rotation starter. Tommy Joseph is just a former prospect who got injury problems and fell off the radar. Now in Holmes we see a future ace. Not huge but throws heat. Should have 2 great pitches and a very good third. We like him as a solid addition to our pitching prospects. You can never have to much pitching.
