MLB 2015 - Being the Brewmaster!

I have been thinking about another dynasty(after two other tries went down the drain) and to prevent that from happening, this one won't feature as much long writeups and more quick numbers

Aswell, I won't micromanage everything to the last employee cleaning the toilets and let my minor league managers and my assistant GM as well as my manager do their work and focus on the big decisions and I won't mess alot with the league and leave the league history as it is.

The attentive reader will recognize some similarities between this dynasty and Big T's Reds and Blue Jays dynasty... and those are intended to a degree. I have read those a second time and quite enjoyed them once again(and stole the idea of coloring the team names from him a year ago).

I will take over the Milwaukee Brewers as I did want a team without a HUGE budget that is in a tricky spot to begin with. One big difference to my D'backs series will be... that I will restrain myself regarding trades and will act more like a classic GM... so don't expect me to go flat out crazy like I have done before.

So far, so good. onwards to my new GM office at Miller Park!

2015 April: State of the Brew Crew

Owner Expectations and Goals:
Play .500 Ball this season
Upgrade at Shortstop this season(Jean Segura, Hector Gomez)
Sign Carlos Gomez to an extension
Keep building your team up, in order to reach the playoffs in the next four seasons

Preseason Predictions:
86-76, second NL Wild Card

Roster:

Starters:
NameAgeLeagueW-LERAGWHIPK/9Status
Mike Fiers(R)29ML6-52.1314G/10GS0.889.57
Matt Garza(R)31ML8-83.6427GS1.186.9

Jimmy Nelson(R)25ML2-94.9314G/12GS1.467.4
Wily Peralta(R)25ML17-113.5332GS1.307.0
Taylor Jungmann(R)25AAA8-63.9819G/18GS1.328.9All Stats AAA

Looking at last years numbers, the rotation should be decent once again. Taylor Jungmann should break into the rotation down the road but with room to grow, we will keep him in AAA to start the year.

Bullpen:
NameAgeLeagueW-LERAGWHIPK/9SVStatus
Jonathan Broxton(R)30ML4-32.3062G1.027.57(MIL/CIN)
Neal Cotts(L)35ML2-94.3273G1.348.52(TEX)

Brandon Kintzler(R)30ML3-33.2464G1.344.80
Francisco Rodriguez(R)33ML5-53.0444G0.999.744
Will Smith(L)25ML1-33.7078G1.4211.81
Tyler Thornburg(R)26ML3-14.2527G1.528.50

Michael Blazek(R)26AAA4-44.1337G/17GS1.437.71All stats AAA
Corey Knebel(R)23AAA1-11.9614G0.829.82All stats AAA(DET)
Chris Perez(R)29AAA1-34.2949G1.367.61(LAD)

Knebel and Blazek may get a chance once injury happens. Surprisingly enough, Ron Roenicke announced that Jeremy Jeffress will be his closer for 2015 with K-Rod and Broxton as setup man. I will look at the waiver wire and the free agent pool to add another left handed reliever for depth... we are dangerously reliant on Neal Cotts there and have no options in AAA... We offered a couple of MFA deals to Paul Maholm(1-5 4.84 30G/8GS LAD) and Francisley Bueno(0-0 4.18 30G KCR) and our head scout recommended RHRP Justin Freeman(3-1 6SV 4.25 29G AAA) aswell...

Catcher:
NameAgeLeagueAvg-HR-RBIOPSGWARRSBStatus
Jonathan Lucroy(R)28ML.301-13-69.837153G4.8734/8
Martin Maldonado(R)28ML.234-4-16.70752G0.4140/0
Juan Centeno(L)25AAA.200-0-2.47310G-0.110/0(NYM)

Lucroy should be our catcher at least until his contract expires after 2017 and Maldonado is the perfect backup catcher, not a great bat but a great defender and a bench leader.

Infield:
NameAgeLeagueAvg-HR-RBIOPSGWARRSBStatus
1B Adam Lind(L)31ML.321-6-40.86096G2.4380/0(TOR)
2B Scooter Gennett(L)24ML.289-9-54.754137G1.9556/9
3B Luis Jimenez(R)27ML.162-0-2.42118GS-0.330/0(LAA)
3B Aramis Ramirez(R)36ML.285-15-66.757133G2.8473/3
SS Hector Gomez(R)27ML.282-15-49.808121G1.9595/8All stats AAA
3B Jean Segura(R)25ML.246-5-31.614146G0.06120/29
2B/SS Luis Sardinas(S)21AAA.261-0-8.61643G0.0125/6(TEX)

There is alot of uncertainty in this infield, starting with Ramirez' age 36 season, Adam Lind's injury history, Jean Segura's production and with a couple of 27-year old backups... that are rather inexperienced at the MLB level. There could be some changes with highly talented Luis Sardinas developing in AAA and if things go down the drain, we could unload some of those guys.

Outfield:
NameAgeLeagueAvg-HR-RBIOPSGWARRSBStatus
LF/RF Ryan Braun(R)31ML.266-19-81.777135G3.26811/16
LF Khris Davis(R)27ML.244-22-69.756144G2.7704/5
CF Carlos Gomez(R)29ML.284-23-73.8331485.39534/46
OF Gerardo Parra(R)27ML.261-9-40.6771501.0649/16(MIL/ARI)
OF Logan Schafer(L)28ML.181-0-8.55465-0.3132/3

We have a lot of depth in the majors, but in the end our season will depend on how Ryan Braun will rebound from his 2014 and if Carlos Gomez can once again do the heavy lifting. The truth is that Braun's 10y/$142.5M retirement contract till 2020 with a team option for 2021 may end up as a burden instead of a help for the Brew Crew. Our ourfield depth in AAA is sparse... so we dished out a MFA offer to OF Ryan Kalish(.248-0-5 57G CHC).

Questions for the 2015 Season:

Can Ryan Braun bounce back to the MvP/Silver Slugger form and lift the team back into the postseason for the first time since 2011? Will his thump continue to hinder him?

If the team is not looking great come July, will GM K.C. Martin consider to deal away veterans like Adam Lind, Matt Garza, Kyle Lohse and the expiring contract of Aramis Ramirez to fill the sparse minor league system?

How will the bullpen fare with a inexperienced closer in Jeremy Jeffress and how will K-Rod deal with that?

Will their unranked but highly talented AA prospect gang already make waves at the MLB level late in the year?

Good luck with your effort in rebuilding the Brewers. It's a nice challenge and there is some good talent in the minors. You won't be as bad as the 2015 Brewers in my league, as they went 55-107.

I took over after that season and with a couple of good moves, it's possible to turn this team around quickly.

I'll be following along!

Hey, thanks for following"

What I like about them is, they have this core of guys in their prime(Lucroy, Gomez), the questionable star(Braun) and a roster of solid, but not great parts around them... with some not so great contracts.

Deciding whether to extend Gomez... trade Braun and blow up the whole team to tear it up from the ground... or more or less keep the team relevant and hovering around .500 hoping for a big year like 2011 with the right pieces... I think this could be a interesting one and with my goals... this won't work like: I make a gazillion trades and suddently win 100 games in year one dynasty

We obviously opened the season 7-15 and are dead last in the NL Central(dejavu anybody?). Things are not running smooth obviously and the front office is preparing for a sale... though not a firesale. With Ryan Braun down, our chances to rebound big time in May are slim... and that means we may have lost the season in the first month of play.

Rotation:

The rotation has been a utter disappointment apart from Tyler Thornburg who Ronny had penciled in as a reliever to start the year. Kyle Lohse's trade value may just be zero by now but fortunately... he is a free agent after this season. Matt Garza was solid... but has a guaranteed contract for $12.5M annual till 2017 with a team option for 2018... and for what he is able to contribute... this is a bit too much and we may look to flip him for a good prospect if we continue to pile up L's.

The pen has been rather impressive... for a burning train wreck... that kinda accident that is technically really worse... but one stilll has to watch it. There is some serious money tied up in this pen and some guys that are not easily tradable... or demotable. We will leave the group alone for now and hope that Ron and our highly motivated pitching coach(I told him he would be sent to Sibiria if this doesn't work out) will get this pen straightened out.

Lucroy has started rather cold compared to last year while Maldonado played only a handful of games and started in three... Lucroy has shown flashes of a Silver Slugger catcher last year and was an All-Star... hoping for a better month...

3B Mike Moustakas(L)26AAA.216-0-7.63215G/12GS-0.221/1All stats AAA

We will bring Mous to AAA to get a clean look at his swing... but he can not possibly be worse than our corner infielders, our second baseman... our mascot is performing for a higher WAR right now. Lind has been a major disappointment for a guy with a Silver Slugger Award on his resumee and Gennett more or less made the last two years look like a fluke... Once again, I preach patience for another month... but then things may happen quite fast.

Outfield:
NameAgeLeagueAvg-HR-RBIOPSGWARRSBStatus
LF/RF Ryan Braun(R)31ML.254-4-6.80018G0.4111/1DL Fractured Rib 5 weeks

OF Ryan Kalish(L)27AAA.419-1-81.0698G/7GS0.534/4DL Sprained Ankle 3 days

The outfield is where the production is... and 1/3 of it is on the DL. Carlos Gomez is pleading his case for an extension but is not willing to talk about one until he is in a contract year... too bad. Khris Davis is roughly doing the same as he did last year... with more HR and lesser doubles. Nieuwenhuis, Schafer and Parra as well as Kalish are fringe major leaguers that should be able to keep us afloat... who that depends on your definition of 'afloat'.

A hero effort by our pen and some longball fireworks won us this one.

News:
After today's game, the Brewers announced that SP Wily Peralta(26, 2.5*, 1-2 4.32) was placed on the DL with a fractured foot and will be out for a month. He doubled down the right field line today but slid into second awkwardly. AAA SP Jimmy Nelson(25, 0.5/1* HS, 1.5/2* OSA 1-2 6.05 ML) was recalled.

Dodgers OF Joc Pederson(23, 4/5*) had a big 2-3 2R 3RBI 2BB 2HR day in a 5-0 win over the Giants. The rookie left handed bat is .238-7-26 in 40G for the year. His starter SP Freddy Garcia(38, 0.5*) went 8IP 4H 0ER 2BB 5K in the win and improved to 2-0 6.56 19K in eight starts.

Angels SP Hector Santiago(27, 0.5* HS, 1* OSA) pitched 8IP 3H 0ER 2BB 2K in a 1-0 win over the Blue Jays, outpitching R.A. Dickey. The lefty has been great this year, going 5-1 1.93 37K in eight starts. The bad news... 1B Albert Pujols(35, 4.5*) left with a strained hammy and will be out for four weeks. The veteran was batting .226-6-20 prior to the injury.

The Indians continue to deal as they have sent SP Danny Salazar(25, 1.5/3.5*, 0-1 5.16) over to the Braves, surprisingly breaking up their group of young starters. The Tribe got back prospect RF Jordan Paroubeck(20, 1.5* HS, 2.5* OSA, A) and prospect CF Matt Lipka(23, 1* HS, 1.5* OSA, A).

What we need... is quality starting pitching with ace upside every start... these are trades we have to HIT on. A permanent solution at 1B would be nice aswell...

Matt Garza was not only awful, he also demanded to get traded after the game... PUBLICALLY!...

News:
Rangers 3B Adrian Beltre(36, 4.5*) reached a career milestone today... 400 home runs. The bomb dropped today in a 4-8 loss against the Indians. Beltre is a career .285-400-1407 hitter with 2653H in 2465 games since joining the league with the Dodgers in 1998 at age 19. For 2015, he is batting .288-5-23 in 41G.

Astros 2B Jose Altuve(25, 5*) collected a 5-hit day with 2R, a walk and a double in a 7-6 win in Baltimore. Last year's batting champ is only hitting .275-1-18 in 44G tho.

Giants 1B Brandon Belt(27, 4.5*) had a 2-4 4R 4RBI 2BB 2HR night in a 15-0 rout of the Brew Crew. Hitting .280-5-27 with incredible defense at first base, Belt has become a crucial part of the 29-17 Giants.

Interlude: Trades

The Brewers fans went to bed angry after a 15-0 loss to the Giants. When they woke up this morning... they got the news that GM K.C. Martin pulled the plug on the 2015 Brewers.

With Ramirez(36, 3*) and Parra(28, 2.5*), two expiring contracts are in this deal. The Orioles now hold a team option for Lind(31, 1*) for $8M for next year... that is not worth his production. At age 27, Jason Rogers(1*) is a former 32nd round pick without much further promise... and Paul Maholm(0.5*) has been the AAA throw in in this deal.

The return however are two promising young hurlers. The #21 prospect in baseball in righty SP Dylan Bundy(22, 1.5* HS, 4.5* OSA) who was the 4th overall pick in 2011 as well as fellow righty SP Hunter Harvey(20, 2.5* HS, 3.5* OSA). Both players will be sent to the minors.

In a deal that was finished at 6 a.m. in the morning, Milwaukee unloaded a disgruntled Matt Garza(31, 2*), a disgruntled former closer in Francisco Rodriguez(33, 4*), Mendoza-line hitting 2B Scooter Gennett(25, 1.5/3*) and a couple of fringe prospects to the Yankees.

Coming back in return will be hard hitting left handed 1B Greg Bird(22, 4.5*), a kid with a promising bat that will report to AAA ball immediatly. SS Jorge Mateo(19, 5* HS, 4.5* OSA) will report to AA Biloxi. He is a lightning quick infielder that has recently started to learn second base a bit.

The fill out the roster... the Brewers have announced that they have claimed SP Travis Wood(28, 1.5*) off waivers from the Chicago Cubs. The left hander has struggled in 2015, posting a 1-5 record with a 7.64ERA seven starts.

In addition to that, they have recalled SS/2B Luis Sardinas(22, 2.5/4.5*, .287-0-12 23/24SB AAA) and 3B Mike Moustakas(26, 1.5*, .213-1-12 AAA) to play second and third base. In addition to that, they have purchased the contracts of RHRP Justin Freeman(28, 2*, 0.71 25.1IP AAA), OF Ryan Kalish(27, 1*, .295-1-12 AAA) and OF/1B Shane Peterson(27, 1.5/2.5*, .234-2-19 AAA).

Reportetly, the team is still looking for a taker for Kyle Lohse, but most teams think he is not worth the money, let alone a prospect.

Hidden behind all the moves, the sweep of the D'Backs pushed us over the top and into a 15-14 May. However, this is a vastly different team than one month ago and while we have subtracted a lot of veteran presence... we have added alot of promise for the future in our minor league system to the guys we already have down there. Our scouts have been focusing on the draft pool for the last weeks as we will have the 16th selection in every round. This may not translate into the biggest haul but hitting some hight picks would be nice.

The team should be good enough to stay afloat as I would love to avoid a 100 loss season. This will highly depend on our offense that is last in the NL right now, mainly on how Luis Sardinas, Carlos Gomez, Jonathan Lucroy and Ryan Braun will fare the rest of the season. The truth about our pitching should be somewhere between April and May and looking at the performance... that translates into a .400-.450 winning percentage.

This group has done a way better job in May than in April and subtracting Matt Garza and adding Jimmy Nelson/Alex Wood and someday having Wily Peralta healthy should keep us afloat in this department. Tyler Thornburg is due for some bad outings with a .220BABIP and a 4.14FIP but we keep this hot streak as long as it goes.

At age 29, Mike Fiers has not alot room for improvement but over the long haul should be our best hurler for 2015... so we will keep him as he is under team control for three more years. Trading Kyle Lohse... is difficult and getting a piece that is long term useful seems impossible... however the Red Sox would be willing to swap him in a salary neutral deal... which we will reevaluate once Wily Peralta is back healthy.

Same as the rotation, this group has been way better in May. Veteran Neil Cotts has been struggling, but Juan Nicasio has not allowed a run in May and even our closer in Jeremy Jeffress was... decent with a 3.18ERA and eight saves. We have more reinforcements underway... as we have put a waiver claim on Dodgers RHRP Chris Hatcher(30, 3* HS, 3.5* OSA, 3-0 0.90 10IP) and would love to bring him in and sent Knebel down to AAA... he has still room for development.

Juan Centeno(L)25AA.295-0-9.63923G0.2230/0All stats AA

Lucroy followed up a mediocre month with a completely awful one and Maldonado as expected cooled off once he got more AB's. Juan Centeno was sent down to AA by Doug Melvin... and I understand why looking at his batting stats... Hopefully none of our MLB catchers get injured.

Infield:

1B Greg Bird(L)22AAA.284-8-23.88248G1.3330/0All stats AAA

What this infield actually will be... will be decided when they get a bit more swings in. Playing Shane Peterson at first base is not ideal but we don't want to call up Greg Bird right now... and ideally not before 2016. Sardinas... Moustakas... could outproduce Gennett and Ramirez from now on... hopefully.

Outfield:

OF Ryan Kalish(L)27ML.400-1-11.5004G/1GS0.120/0

Our outfield cooled of significantly as all of our offense did. Gomez was better in April and Davis has played at a baseline of .230 with some power every other week. We will look for a victim to be sent down/waived when Braun is back and hope he can spark our offense a bit...

2015 First Year Player Draft

Round 1 Pick 16: Milwaukee Brewers select CF Dazmon Cameron(18, 4.5* HS, 5* OSA) out of High School
This was a head scout recommendation in a deep draft... Cameron is a speedy CF with a decent bat, decent defensive skills and he is a white-collar guy in the makeup. At 18 years of age, this is a high risk pick that will cost us $2.5M... tho money is not a big concern with all the bucks we saved earlier this year.

Round 2 Pick 16: Milwaukee Brewers select C Joe Davis(18, 5* HS, 3.5* OSA) out of High School.
The recommendation was a similar catcher that the OSA hated... and I decided to go with the guy everybody likes a bit. Davis has a good work ethic and projects to walk alot and homer alot. Not the best defensive catcher, but he should be able to learn a trick or two in our system.

Round 3 Pick 16: Milwaukee Brewers select LF Dayton Dugas(17, 5* HS, 4.5* OSA) out of High School.
A lot of scouts have him earmarked with elite power. He is a good corner outfielder without great range but a good arm. Dugan is a good clubhouse guy and can run a bit and should come rather cheap for a 17-year old prospect.

Round 4 Pick 16: Milwaukee Brewers select 3B Zach Ramzy(17, 5* HS, 3.5* OSA) out of High School.
Our California area scout loves this kid. A baseball rat that may or may not end up at first base sometime down the road, we think he can hit .280 with a .380 OBP and 25HR in a normal year. Not alot of speed... but the rest is there.

Round 5 Pick 16: Milwaukee Brewers select C Darren Shred(17, 5* HS, 1* OSA) out of High School.
As you can see, our scouting department loves high school kids and has a long wishlist of 5* potential prospects. Shred is projected with 20/20 power potential... not sure if legit.

Round 6 Pick 16: Milwaukee Brewers select SP Hunter Parsons(17,1* HS, 5* OSA) out of High School.
Parsons announced he would like to go back to school to pursue his education... but there is some talent hidden in him... we will try to lure him with a big signing bonus.

From here on... we continued with scouting recommendations! We had alot of money to spend and threw some money at late round picks similar to Parsons... and will see if it will stick.

HR MIL: Ryan Braun(5)
HR PIT: none
W: Gerrit Cole(3-2 4.24) L: Mike Fiers(2-5 4.11) SV: Mark Melancon(15 1.73)
We had only four hits today... while the Pirates had six... all for extra bases.

News:
Off all parts, Blue Jays SS Jose Reyes(31, 4*) missed the single for the cycle today, going 3-4 2R 4RBI DB TR HR in a 13-10 win over the Marlins at home, his former team. The 4x All-Star is batting .296-4-34 7/9SB in 56G for Toronto.

Houston RF George Springer(25, 4.5*) collected his second 2HR game of his season with a 2-4 2R 4RBI BB 2HR day as they won 8-4 over the White Sox. The young speedy outfielder is having .301-14-32 11/14SB year after making his debut in 2014.

The Twins added a veteran arm(and $3M to be able to pay his salary) from the Padres, trading for RHRP Joaquin Benoit(37, 4.5*, 2-1 2SV 3.55 26G) and announced him as their new closer. Going back to the Padres, who decided to start a rebuild, will be prospect LF Amaurys Minier(19, 2.5* HS, 1.5* OSA, A) and prospect RHRP Nick Burdi(22, 3* HS, 4* OSA, A).

Pregame News:
OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis cleared waivers and was assigned to AAA Colorado Springs.

Milwaukee Brewers – Pittsburgh Pirates 8-5
MIL SP Travis Wood 5.1IP 6H 4R 4ER 4BB 5K
MIL 2B Luis Sardinas 3-4 2R 2RBI BB 3SB(8)
MIL RF Ryan Braun 2-3 R 2RBI DB TP
MIL PH/3B Luis Jimenez 2-2 2R 3RBI DB HR
HR MIL: Luis Jimenez(3)

W: Juan Nicasio(3-0 3.54) L: Tony Watson(0-2 9.00) SV: Jeremy Jeffress(15 4.26)
Our bats were there to pick up Alex Wood in his first bad start with us. Sardinas set the basepaths on fire today... but it was Luis Jimenez who lifted us with a pinch hit 2-run homer in the 7th and a RBI-double in the 9th.

News:
Pirates CF Andrew McCutchen(28, 5*) had a good day at the plate, going 2-5 2R 2RBI 2HR, but his team still fell to the Brewers 5-8. The 2013 MvP and 3x Silver Slugger is batting a torrid .358-13-43 11/13SB clip this year.

Mariners 1B Luke Scott(36, 1*) had another big game in him, posting a 4-5 3R 4RBI 2DB HR line in the box score of a 13-2 win over the Indians. The veteran is batting .205-6-15 in 34/21GS. His hurler SP J.A. Happ(32, 0.5*) collected a complete game in the win, going 9IP 4H 2ER 2BB 8K and improving to 3-1 3.38 39K in 9GS.

Rays OF Kevin Kiermaier(25, 4/4.5*) drove in four of the Rays five runs in a 5-1 win over the Angels with a 2-4 2R 4RBI 2HR performance. The young outfielder is batting .272-7-33 in 58G for 2015.

June 10th

Milwaukee Brewers – Pittsburgh Pirates 2-1(13)
MIL SP Tyler Thornburg 8IP 7H 0R 0ER 2BB 6K
MIL RF Ryan Braun 2-5 RBI BB
MIL LF Khris Davis 2-6 RBI
HR MIL: none
HR PIT: Andrew McCutchen(14)
W: Jeremy Jeffress(2-3 3.90) L: Jared Hughes(1-3 3.00) SV: Chris Hatcher(1 2.51)
Thornburg pitched a hell of a game, but so did Vance Worley and it ended up being a couple of RBI-singles top 13th by Braun and Davis that won this one.

News:
Braves SP Julio Teheran(24, 4*) missed a beauty by one out, settling for 8.2IP 3H 0ER 2BB 11K in a 5-0 win over the Padres. The 2014 All-Star is 7-3 2.25 79K in 13 starts.

Rays SP Nate Karns(27, 2/2.5*) cooled off the Angels through eight, allowing 4H 0BB 7K in a 3-1 win. He is now 4-4 4.48 63K in 13G/12GS.

Cardinals 1B Xavier Scruggs(27, 1.5*) had one of his best games of his young career, going 2-4 3R 4RBI BB 2HR but losing to the Rockies 11-12. A 19th rounder in 2008, Scruggs is batting .225-6-16 in 39G/17GS mostly in a backup role.

Giants 1B Brandon Belt(27, 4.5*) collected three RBI's en route for a 4-4 2R 3RBI DB HR day an his team won over the Mets 5-2. The left handed batter is .275-7-36 in 60GS for 2015.

June 11th

Washington Nationals - Milwaukee Brewers 9-1
MIL SP Kyle Lohse 7IP 9H 4R 4ER 0BB 6K
MIL RF Ryan Braun 1-4 RBI DB
HR WSH: Tyler Moore(1)
HR MIL: none
W: Gio Gonzalez(5-5 2.91) L: Kyle Lohse(2-7 4.42)
Both Lohse and Will Smith(5ER in 0.1IP) gave up a big inning apiece and Gio was too much for our bats today.

News:
One day after Teheran's gem, Braves SP Trevor Cahill(27, 4*) repeated that feat, going 8.2IP 6H 1R 0ER 2BB 6K in a 5-1 victory over the Padres. The 2010 All-Star is 6-5 2.18 63K in 12GS and has been a major force for Atlanta.

Rockies SS Troy Tulowitzki(30 ,5*) got some good news and some bad news. The good news, he went 4-4 R 2RBI HR and his team won 9-7 over the Marlins. The bad news, the .251-5-30 58G batter is out for 2-3 weeks with a sprained ankle.

June 12th

Washington Nationals - Milwaukee Brewers 10-1
MIL SP Jimmy Nelson 5IP 6H 7R 4ER 4BB 2K
MIL CF Carlos Gomez 1-4 RBI DB
HR WSH: Jordan Zimmerman(1), Ryan Zimmerman(11), Wilson Ramos(5)
HR MIL: none
W: Jordan Zimmerman(9-2 1.88) L: Jimmy Nelson(3-4 3.74)
The Nats are doing a great job showing us who is boss and who is not... and I don't think having the veterans in the lineup would've changed that.

News:
Nationals SP Jordan Zimmerman(29, 4*) collected a complete game 10-1 win over the Brewers. His final numbers: 9IP 5H 1ER 1BB 6K. He recently signed a 4y/$68M extension and is 9-2 1.88 81K in 13GS this year.

Another day, another great pitching performance by Braves pitching in a 4-0 win over the Mets. SP Shelby Miller(26, 2.5/4*) pitched 8.2IP scoreless, allowing only one hit, 2BB and 9K after losing the no-hitter bottom 6th. He improved to 5-5 5.09 62K in 13GS in a up and down season for him.

Cubs rookie 3B Kris Bryant(23, 3.5/5*) had a historic day at the plate in a 10-5 win over the Reds... as he drove in NINE RUNS today, going 4-5 3R 9RBI DB HR today. He is batting .276-13-44 in 59G and if this game is a sign for things to come... look out.

Phillies RHRP/SP Dustin McGowan(33, 1.5*) is out for the year with a torn back muscke. He did a good but not great job this year with a 2-2 record and a 3.83ERA 47K in 16G/7GS between pen and rotation.

The Orioles added a big bat today, trading for C/LF Evan Gattis(28, 4*, .273-9-35) from the Astros. Houston got back AAA RF Chris Parmalee(27, 1.5*, .291-8-32 AAA) and prospect SP Lazaro Leyva(19, 2* HS, 2.5* OSA).

June 13th

Washington Nationals - Milwaukee Brewers 4-2

MIL CF Carlos Gomez 2-4 R 2RBI HR
MIL C Jonathan Lucroy 2-4
HR WSH: none
HR MIL: Carlos Gomez(9)
W: Stephen Strasburg(3-2 3.00) L: Mike Fiers(2-6 4.19) SV: Aaron Barrett(2)
Gomez' shot was not enough to win today as the Nats scored four in the first three innings.

News:
White Sox 1B Jose Abreu(28, 5*) won his battles, but lost the war as his team fell to the Rays 12-13. He had a 4-4 3R 2RBI 2BB HR day and improved to bat a hot .339-113-47 bat in 61G.

Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright(33, 4*) dominated the Royals through eight innings, allowing only 6H 0BB 8K in a 3-0 win at home. The veteran ace is 7-4 3.41 81K in 14 starts this year.

June 14th

Washington Nationals - Milwaukee Brewers 6-8(12)

HR MIL: Jean Segura 2(2), Jonathan Lucroy(2), Luis Jimenez(4)
W: Justin Freeman(2-0 0.00) L: Blake Treinen(1-3 3.33)
A wild game... literally. We avoided a four game sweep with some longballs and despite Wood, Nicasio and Broxton allowing 2 runs apiece... as Luis Jimenez stepped in and hit a 2-run walkoff shot in the 12th.

News:
Arizona 1B/OF Mark Trumbo(29, 1.5*) drove in six in a 2-4 3R 6RBI BB 2HR performance... that resulted in a 11-1 win in SanFran. Trumbo is batting .205-15-45 in 61G.

MIL 2B Luis Sardinas 1-3 BB
HR KCR: none
HR MIL: none
W: Drew Pomeranz(3-5 4.02) L: Tyler Thornburg(6-4 1.69)
A dropped flyball led to three unearned runs for Thornburg... and we never hit Pomeranz hard.
