2015 Ottawa Champions
I have decided to see what it would be like to run an Independent team.
I have chosen the Ottawa Champions in the Can-Am league (because I live in Ottawa). The owner wants me to achieve a winning record, upgrade my RF, acquire a 'top player', reach 'Round 2' in the next 5 seasons. Interestingly, the game says I have already achieved the 'acquire a top player' thing.

Do you want to hear a surprise?
Bill Bavasi has decided to be the Asst. GM for the Ottawa Champions. Uh... we'll take him. Travis Chapman is our new Hitting Coach. I just need to find a trainer.

The Ottawa Champions have a new marquee player.
They signed Chris Aguila to a $60,000 contract - easily their highest paid.

The life of an Independent League GM...
... I thought I had a shot at Maikel Ceceres. He signed with the Nationals. He had a request for $15,000 per year. Then the Twins came sniffing around and it jumped to $1.2m

Team entering into Spring Training. We are definitely short bodies and I am trying to correct that.
PITCHERS Alan DeRatt - Reached AA in 2011 but then was out of baseball until 2014. He pitched well for Sioux Falls last year. Drew Granier - Was in AAA last year. He is our ace. Nick Purdy - Never got past Short A in the Jays org. Pitched for Trois-Riviers last year with little success. Andrew Werner - Pitched for the Padres in 2012 and was on their AA team until last year. BULLPEN Josh Blanco - Has been out of baseball since 2010 and never got past Rookie ball. Drew Cisco - Pitched in A-ball last year. Dan Meyer - 5 year major league vet with the Braves, A's and Marlins. Last pitched for the Marlins in 2010 and then for Long Island in 2012. In 2009 he pitched in 71 games for the Marlins with a 3.09 era. We are hoping he still has something left. Joe Riley - Pitched (poorly) for Quebec last year. That is his only experience in pro ball. Dan Tobik - Pitched in A-ball last year. Tyler Wilson - No pro experience. Wilmer Font - Had two cups of coffee with the Rangers. Had good numbers with their AA club last year. Unsure why he was released. HITTERS Corey Caswell - Third string catcher with one year pro-experience. Bryce Massanari - A-ball last year. Likely to be the back-up. Jon Talley - Career minor leaguer. Starting catcher. Mike Schwartz - Starting 1B. One year pro experience. Matt Tenaglia - Back-up 1B and OF. Rookie. Alexander Nunez - 2B taxi squad guy. Our of ball since 2011. Roberto Carlos Ramirez - Cuban player who defected in 2013. He hasn't played since but he was good in Cuba. Middle infielder. Willie Carmona - 3B. A-ball last year. Daniel Bick - Back-up middle infielder. Rookie. Dainer Moreira - Cuban SS. Lots of promise. Francisco Sosa - OF. A-ball last year. Sebastien Boucher - Local boy. Hit very well for Quebec last year. OF. Chris Aguila - Our big signing. Cup of coffee with the Mets but a career AAA guy. OF. Chris Winder - OF. Rookie.

Brian Bixler signed a $13,000 contact to join the Champions.
He is a 7-position utility player who has two years experience in the majors with the Nationals and Astros.

7 year major league vet, Matt Capps has signed with the Champions!
At $17,600 obviously he isn't in it for the money...
