Commissioner Sim League

I love doing dynasties in the game, but I've never actually done one where I just sit back and watch what's going on.

That's going to be the goal of this series. I am going to take the role of a commissioner/fan, letting the game run itself for the most part and occasionally making changes myself for the betterment of the league and to make things a little more interesting.

I will be posting topics for the offseason, preseason predictions, all-star rosters, and playoffs. I'm really interested to see which teams will rise to the top after rebuilding their farm system and taking over with new talent.

I will also try to follow major storylines, records and such to show you who the all-time greats actually are.

Everything in the league will be the exact same as the real life league in 2015, except for one major change.

I will be adding 2 expansion teams to the start of the year, and the MLB will now have NFL-style divisions and the same playoff system. This is to spice things up a little bit and make things a little more fun. We will be adding a Southern Division to each league and moving some teams around.

The 2 new expansion teams to be added to the game will be the Montreal Expos and the Carolina Warhounds. The 2 team inspirations were from an online league that I am currently participating in, where we have the same 2 expansion teams. As a man from Carolina I would also be very happy to finally see this state get a professional baseball team.

The divisions will be as follows:

American League

Eastern Division
New York Yankees
Boston Red Sox
Baltimore Orioles
Toronto Blue Jays

Central Division
Chicago White Sox
Detroit Tigers
Minnesota Twins
Cleveland Indians

Western Division
Oakland Athletics
Los Angeles Angels
Seattle Mariners
Colorado Rockies

Southern Division
Tampa Bay Rays
Kansas City Royals
Houston Astros
Texas Rangers

National League

Eastern Division
Philadelphia Phillies
New York Mets
Pittsburgh Pirates
Montreal Expos

Central Division
St. Louis Cardinals
Chicago Cubs
Milwaukee Brewers
Cincinnati Reds

Western Division
Los Angeles Dodgers
San Diego Padres
Arizona Diamondbacks
San Francisco Giants

Southern Division
Washington Nationals
Atlanta Braves
Miami Marlins
Carolina Warhounds

The OSA seems to predict that the Yankees will be winning the AL crown this year with 98 wins. Detroit, Oakland, and Kansas City are also favored to win their divisions and make a run for playoff spots.

We have a couple tight races here in the NL, with the Dodgers being the OSA's only team reaching 100-wins this year. Other division winner would include Pittsburgh, St. Louis, and Washington.

The OSA projects 23-year old OF Mike Trout as the best hitter in baseball this year and it's extremely hard to argue that. He's coming off a great season where he bat .287 and hit 36 HR and 111 RBI's. He's still young too and can only go up.

A surprise here, as the OSA predicts that Matt Harvey from the New York Mets will be the best pitcher of 2015. He missed the entirety of last season due to Tommy John surgery and will be looking to bounce back from injury, but the OSA clearly has confidence that he can do that.

Byron Buxton from the Minnesota Twins organization wins the nod here for best hitting prospect of 2015. He's been on many people's bords for a while now as one of the hottest prospects in baseball and while he may take a few more years to get there, he will almost certainly be worth the wait for a struggling Twins roster

Huascar Ynoa is a 16-year old prospect for the Minnesota Twins organization that hasn't played a single game in the minors and is already being touted as the #1 pitching prospect in baseball. He is very green right now and, as expected from a 16-year old, will take a few years to mature and work on his game before he is ready, but one thing is for sure, the Twins future is definitely looking bright.

First-Year Player Draft Results:

SS Brendan Rodgers was the 1st overall selection in this years MLB dradt by the returning Montreal Expos. He looks to be a very good all-around player who can develop into a 5-tool player in the future. Montreal definitely scored with this pick. The rest of the 1st round results can be found above.

2015 MLB Standings

American League

The Boston Red Sox come back from a mediocre first half and being 2nd in the division at the All-Star break, to having the best record in the AL due to an extremely hot 2nd half of the season. There were so many teams over .500 this year in the AL you almost feel bad for the ones that don't make the playoffs, but you have to congratulate Boston, Detroit, Los Angeles, and Tampa Bay for being able to win their division. Now as we now have a 6-team playoff situation like the NFL, we have 2 wildcards that play 2 division winners in a 5-game series. The seeds for the AL in 2015 look like this:

#1 - Boston Red Sox
#2 - Los Angeles Angels
#3 - Tampa Bay Rays
#4 - Detroit Tigers
#5 - New York Yankees
#6 - Seattle Mariners

National League

The NL was definitely more top-heavy this year than the AL, but there are some real powerhouses coming out of the NL into the playoffs this year, led by the only team to win 100 games, the St. Louis Cardinals. The Dodgers however were only 1 win away from making it to that club themselves. Miami and Pittsburgh round out the division winner and teams that will have homefield help in the playoffs. The seeding for the NL in the 2015 playoffs look like this:

#1 - St. Louis Cardinals
#2 - Los Angeles Dodgers
#3 - Pittsburgh Pirates
#4 - Miami Marlins
#5 - Chicago Cubs
#6 - New York Mets

2015 Wildcard Round

An interesting first week of playoff baseball here, as teams like the Yankees and Pirates showed why they're threats to every other playoff contender and teams like Seattle and Miami gain momentum going into 2nd round matchups.

2015 Divisional Round

A very solid week of baseball here, as we saw the Yankees and Dodgers prove why they may be World Series favorites and we see the Seattle Mariners and Miami Marlins both pull off HUGE upsets to beat the #1 seed of both leagues in the Red Sox and the Cardinals. It will be very interesting to see who makes it to the World Series

2015 League Championship Series

So we have the #2 seed and preseason world series favorites going up against the #6 seed and a team who barely made it into the playoffs to begin with. Pitching will make or break this series for one of these teams

2015 World Series
vs.

This is definitely a pitching matchup here, as both teams were 1st in their league in runs allowed this year. The only major difference between the 2, is that while the Dodgers were 2nd in runs scored in the NL, the Mariners were dead last in the AL. The Mariners pitching will really have to step up here if they want to win, because that offense does need to be carried. If there's any rotation that could do it however, it would be the Mariners with the solid 4 of Felix Hernandez, Hisashi Iwakuma, James Paxton and Taijuan Walker. The Dodgers are no slouches either though, as they have a pretty solid 4 themselves with Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke, Hyun-Jin Ryu and Brandon McCarthy. One of the more interesting matchups of the year and a great one to send off the 2015 season

The Dodgers take the series in 6-games and finally live up to the expectations they have had for many years now. Carl Crawford was absolutely stellar this series, hitting over .500 and seemingly dismantling the Mariners every time he was up to bat. Zack Greinke also had a very nice series grabbing himslef his first ring.
