The Amazing Mets

Name: tam.PNG

"There's a little roller up along first, behind the bag! It gets through Buckner! Here comes Knight and the Mets win it!!!" - Vin Scully---1986 World Series (Game 6)

With those immortal words, the NY Mets won Game 6 of the 1986 World Series.
After that, they won the seventh game and the 1986 NY Mets were World Champions.
In 1969, the Mets did the unthinkable, as they defeated the BAL Orioles to win their first world championship.
That's the year i was born.
I guess its only right that i would be a Mets fan.
Born in Queens, NY, and the Mets won the World Series in my birth year.

Welcome to THE AMAZING METS dynasty.
In this dynasty, we will play the NY Mets, once again starting in the year 1962.
With the new historical minor leagues, OOTP has changed the game of baseball.
Now players will arrive in the year they entered the minors, not the majors.
That means superstars like Johnny Bench, Steve Carlton, Nolan Ryan, among others will start from the ground up.
I think that is a MAJOR change, so i decided to start a brand new dynasty once again.

Rules
Injuries: Normal
Recalc: ON
Trading: Very Hard. (I had an issue with the Trade AI. Lukasberger said this has been improved. We shall see.)
Favors: Neutral

I will be using my Expanded Playoffs Rules to give me a little help.
From 1962-1968:
Top three teams in each league advance into the playoffs. (6 Teams)
#3 @ #2 in best of five Division Series.
Winner plays #1 in best of seven Championship Series.
Then the best of seven World Series.

From 1969-1993:
The top three teams in each division advance into the playoffs. (12 teams---Owners believe that playoff revenue is very good money)
#3 @ #2 in best of three Wildcard Series.
Winner plays #1 in best of five Division Series.
Championship Series and World Series are best of seven.

From 1994-:
1st and 2nd place teams in each division advance into playoffs.
#6 @ #5---One game Playoff
Winner @ #4 best of three Wildcard Series.
Winner plays @ #1 Division winner, #3 @ #2 plays. Best of Five Division Series.
Championship Series and World Series are best of seven.

I love the playoffs, so i increased the number of playoff teams.

To all those who read my MEET THE METS dynasty, i hope you enjoy reading this one just as much as i will enjoy doing.
Maybe i will be able to create the same Mets team like i did in that dynasty.
Maybe this dynasty will be completely different.
Might win a title in 1967, like i almost did in the WS against the MIN Twins.
Might not win a title until the year 2016...who knows?

I'm all over this.
It's time to get ready and watch...

THE AMAZING METS!!!

PLAY BALL!!!

The 1961 Season will be simulated until the 1962 Expansion Draft.

1962 Expansion Draft

These are my hitters and pitchers i was able to get in the draft.
Not too bad.
Lots of wannabees and has-beens.

NYM Transactions:

Andy Carey didnt want to be demoted, so i was able to make a quick trade with the LA Dodgers for Russ Snyder.

To start this new dynasty, i think i have done rather well for the 1st year.
I was able to get stars such as Luis Aparicio, Johnny Temple, Hank Aguirre, Jim Gilliam, (once again), and Donn Clendenon.
This team might not suck so bad.
The Prepredicts have us in 8th place in the NL.
Its the start of a new dynasty with OOTP17, so now lets see what the new version of this game has to offer.
So everyone, sit back and enjoy the ride and get ready to....

April 1962

How about this start for a brand new baseball team?
The NY Mets start the year and their new franchise off 9-10 and are not in the cellar.
Ken Johnson is my ace early on with a 1.32 ERA.
Luis Aparicio is smacking the ball at a .354 clip, with Gordy Coleman right behind him at .333.
We all know this team is not going to win anything at this juncture.
I will need a few drafts under my belt.
But this is a start that I really didnt expect.
Lets see if we can stay respectable for a while.

May 1962

I have no idea what is going on.
But the NY Mets, on the strength of an 18-12 record for May, are in the heart of the pennant race.
Only 4.5 GB of the PIT Pirates for the NL, and only 2 GB of the SF Giants and MIL Braves for the 3rd playoff spot.
This IS the year 1962, and this team is playing like its 1969.
Coleman, Richardson, and Aparicio are doing some major damage at the plate.
While Johnson and Hank Aguirre are keeping opposing batters on their heels.
Don't know how long this is going to last, but this is FUN!
Donn Clendenon gets his 1st ROTM Award.

Aren't you supposed to lose like 120 games? Hopefully you can keep up the pace!

I have never gotten out to a winning record with the 1962 Mets in any dynasty, reported or not, after May.
Maybe its something in the water, or maybe Lukasberger got a hold of this year's database and made sure the Mets would be the team to beat in OOTP17?

So there is a bug, because I think they meant to check the Yankees as the team to beat instead.

Sometimes weird things happen, but they always seem to even out over time. But hopefully the Mets are just happy you're in control and playing well!

June 1962

The fans here in the Polo Grounds are still trying to figure out their new team.
The NY Mets go 18-13 for the month of June and find themselves only 1.5 GB of 3rd place.
We seem to have a better record on the road than we do at home.
I'm still at a loss to explain this first season, but right now, we are really over-achieving in only our 3rd month of this team's existence.
Will it continue?

1962 NYM All-Stars

As many times i have started a dynasty with the NY Mets, i think that this is the 1st time that we sent THREE players to the All-Star game in 1962.
Congrats to Gordy Coleman, Jim Gilliam, and Donn Clendenon.
The 1st ever NY Mets All-Stars.
Many more are coming in the future.

Jerry Lumpe was not happy being a backup to our wonderful team.
I sent him packing to the LA Dodgers for Carl Warwick.
I think i got a good deal.

July 1962

The NY Mets finally come back down to the ground in July.
We go 12-17 for the month.
Still 5 games above .500, but now 7.5GB of the third playoff spot.
LAD, SF and CIN are just doing too well this year and it looks like no one is going to catch any of them.
But that's OK.
What a year we are having, i would love to have a winning record with this team in 1962.
Something i have never done before in any Mets dynasty i have started.
This is great, and it makes me hopeful for many years in the future.
Lets go Mets!

August 1962

The NY Mets go 11-19 for August.
It takes us out of the pennant race, but who am i kidding?
What a great season to start off a new franchise dynasty with the Mets.
Trends:
We stunk against left-handers.
Couldn't get the win in extras.
Led the league in steals.
And we didnt give up many free passes to first.
Donn Clendenon gets his 2nd ROTM Award.
One more month to go and then its on to the off-season, where i will be looking to upgrade a team that looks like its already set to make waves in just a few short years.

September 1962

If anyone would have told me that my 1962 NY Mets would have a winning record in their 1st year of the franchise, i would have told them to give me what they were smoking.
But that is exactly what the Mets did.
A 16-7 month of September gives us an 84-78 record.
UNBELIEVABLE!!!
We dont make the playoffs, but if we had two divisions at this time, we would have.
I am so ecstatic and humbled that we had a winning record in our 1st year.
There is one drawback to that though.
We will pick in the middle of the draft, so some great players that i could have taken, might be gone by then.
But, it looks like i have a good young core of players that want to learn how to win ballgames.
I remember that i said that the players i took in the expansion draft were a bunch of has-beens and wannabees.
I have to eat those words now.
Anyway, our 1st season is in the books and im looking forward to the off-season.
